Informative Course

I really enjoyed Norton's class. I learned so much in 9 days and also had a great time doing it. I do have one thing to say, however. Our class had 16 participants to one instructor. We ran into many roadblocks with this issue during the first 4 days. We were learning so much initially this was great for the theoretical lymphedema education but for the hands on bandaging it did not work out well. We ended up going late a couple of days to get in the one on one reviews that we needed. I would say that for the lab portion the class should be limited to 10 students or two instructors need to be present. Otherwise the course was great with presentations by bandaging providers and such. Everyone was very welcoming and there was no awkwardness with practicing treatment methods.

Great and experienced instructors

I am a slow learner, but the instructors have a lot of patience. There are a lot of information to learn and memorize. After the whole course completes, instructors are also available to answer my questions through email and they get back to me in timely manner. I am proud of myself that I did well in the class. This is what I truly want to say: I am proud that I learn and receive my CLT certification from Norton School.

Difficult but thorough

Be prepared for this course - do all the online studying, then do some extra studying, before you get to the in-class portion. Be healthy and rested and expect to work harder than you can imagine because there is just so much to learn. The teachers are excellent.

It was great learning experince for me.

Initially it was overwhelming in terms of the volume and coplexity of the information but by the end everything became integrated and made sense. Although, I think a two week course would have been less stressful.

I highly recommend this course

When I first registered for this class I couldn't imagine why it needed to be 10 days long! But I soon found out there was more to Lymphedema than I thought. By the 3rd or 4th day I had already learned so much I didn't think I could fit anymore information in my brain but the teachers and assistants made the class fun and exciting so that it didn't seem like you were learning anything new just reviewing what you had already learned in the first several days. The first part was all didactic and the second part was mostly hands on labs. After we finished day 4, the rest of the 6 days just flew by and by that time it was test time. The teachers do a very great job of helping you prep for the written and practical tests. They really made you feel like they wanted you to pass and not fail. So I tried even harder just to show them how great of teachers they all were. I would recommend this course over and over again to anyone interested in Lymphedema. Yes the course is 10 days long but by the end of it, it didn't seem like it was long at all.

Learned everything I needed to know to start practicing Lymphedema therapy

I was so glad I enrolled with Norton School. When I received the home bundle, I was a little overwhelmed. But one the onsite course began, the professors did a great job easing us in into the lymphedema specialization. We had plenty of time to practice and the Instructor made sure every student was given sufficient time and attention to clear doubts and improve their techniques. I would recommend Norton school to anyone who is looking for high standards of education, skilled instructors and great learning environment.

Difficult, but very rewarding.

I walked into the course not knowing how they were going to fill the time. Walking out, I felt like it was just enough. John Beckwith, my instructor, facilitated great discussion, exuded passion for the subject, and gave constructive feedback. Definitely be prepared to work hard, but the Norton School gives you all the tools to succeed in the class and in the clinic.

The Norton school sets high standards and has the education/experience to back it up

If you want to be the most educated and well practiced Complete Decongestive Lymphedema therapist in order to provide the best care possible for your patients, this is the school to learn from. You can learn a little about a lot, but here you learn everything you need to know. This course goes in depth on areas barely touched in traditional classrooms. You will learn the lymphatic system, manual lymph drainage techniques, and compression bandaging techniques from highly educated clinicians that have patient experiences to help you answer questions, think critically, evaluate appropriately, and treat properly. I would recommend it to any therapist looking to advance their career into a specialty area of Lymphedema. It is worth the time, money and effort.

Top notch! Teachers driven to deliver an education.

I was thrilled with my overall Norton School experience - 9 Intense days full of information, hands on experience and exposure to all the elements of lymphedema treatment. I completed the course as a massage therapist in a class majority of physical therapists and it was AWESOME! I learned so much about their field and how we can work together in treatment of patients in need. I never once felt at a disadvantage due to lack of background or experience with the medical model. That being said, I highly recommend any MT out there to DO your homework - make use of the time before class begins to get a VERY firm grasp of the theoretical knowledge and anatomy .. because that is only the beginning. Every aspect of the Norton School curriculum exceeded my expectations of what a focused educational experience should be. I Loved my teachers -- both experts in the field and damn fine human beings. Looking forward to taking the Head and Neck Advanced Class in the future.

Great experience

Overall the course was very informative and by the end I felt prepared to treat lymphedema patients. Mastery of wrapping and MLD sequencing comes with practice, but I did feel prepared to treat patients, especially non-complex diagnosis. The one thing I did not feel confident with was the initial evaluation and examination; the class did not cover this at all really, as our instructor Jeannette said that this varies based on the clinic. Unfortunately, I was returning to a clinic that was restarting its lymphedema program and I would be the only CLT. I felt quite unprepared for the evaluations, and how to initiate treatment and cover the most important educational needs within a one hour evaluation time frame.

Good, comprehensive

One thing I would have preferred was to have the MLD training occur in the morning rather than late afternoon . By 4pm my brain was tired and I found learning difficult .
Overall good learning experience

Great experience! I highly recommend this program.

John Beckwith was a wonderful instructor. He was very professional which made me and the other ladies in the class feel much more at ease. Learning some of the MLD with people you have never met before can be difficult because of the nature of the treatment, but John created a very safe and professional environment. The information was relevant to the practice of CTD and was very well explained. Anyone who takes the time to do their home study will have no problem in the course. I high recommend this program to anyone interested in getting into the field of Lymphedema therapy.

One of the most rewarding learning experiences in a lifetime!

The Norton School's program of CDT is a unique and valuable learning experience. With a combination of self-study, on-line, and classroom modules, I became inspired and educated about Lymphedema and its impact on quality-of-life-issues as well as effective treatment protocol. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in clinical treatment that can change someone's life, provide education to those affected, and provide a rewarding and humanitarian career opportunity.

The manual needs to consistent with the slides. Having 2 instructors is not ideal. Time management could be improved.
