Well worth it!

The class was much more than I expected. Everyone really works together as a team. The instructors were amazing! It was an amazing wealth of knowledge. I was honored to be able to take the course.

Incredible experience!

This course was taught by caring professionals. Norton School has provided me with a thorough education from which I can move forward to assist people with lymphedema. I am very glad I chose Norton School because they made sure we are well equipped by the time we finish the course. Very well rounded program!

emphasis on hand placement, little real-life application

Our instructors were very knowledgeable. The instruction was thorough in textbook technique, however, I was quite unprepared for real-life application. Our one instructor in particular emphasized the importance of completing CDT 100% by the book, no exceptions and had no advice for me at all when asked what I might offer if a patient cannot afford the materials. As expected, in my region, 2 in 10 people can obtain materials. Should I really send the others away and tell them, "Sorry, can't help" ?? What about the 80% of my patients who can't lie on their stomach, let alone lie flat on their back. Yes, over the course of a year and some very patient patients, I've figured out how I can help them. I regret the early patients I wasn't able to help because I didn't have the appropriate training.

Comprehensive professional program

The training and support I received in Complete Decongestive Therapy from Norton School was outstanding. The program was intensive, but very well organized; and the books, resources, and knowledge and experience shared by the instructors are invaluable. I left prepared to confidently treat clients with lymphedema-related conditions.

I learned so much than I ever thought that I would in this course!

I feel the Norton School Lymphedema Certification course is the best course I have ever been to. The pre-course work was very informative and built a good background to build upon when learning to apply that knowledge in the classroom. I learned so much more than I ever thought that I would. The teachers were amazing and different so we were able to learn different ways of doing things. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who is interested in helping people with lymphedema. I came back to work with the confidence that I could truly help my patients and provide them with the optimal care they needed.

Be able to learn how to treat lymphedema in one class

Glad there was a home study portion prior to the 9 day class. Learning the theory on my own at my own pace was beneficial. Completing the home study is overwhelming, but very beneficial. It prepares you very well for the techniques and lab portion once reach the class. Seeing actual patients was very beneficial. Having different reps come in gave different ideas for compression garments and where we can get them from. The class overall was very beneficial and lead to confidence to go back to clinic and treat patients with lymphedema.

Great class, make sure you're prepared

Very thorough and informative. Our instructor actually works in this field which I felt added more credit. Some instructors just teach and lose touch with what is going on currently. Long days with much material covered. We'll worth the investment.

Complete learning for complete decongestive therapy.

The 10 day complete course was very rigorous but necessary for any practitioner that wants to be able to practice and treat lymphedema patient's right away. The only complaint was I wish there was a class geared for therapists only (PT, OT, Speech). Although John saw having a mixed group of massage therapists, OT/OTAs, PT/PTAs and nursing in one class I felt that a class that was specific to rehab would be more beneficial for me when we have similar practice settings. This would allow for less time being spent on discipline specific questions that may not apply to everyone and more time perhaps on how to transition patient's to the 2nd phase of CDT where I felt was a little rushed.

very bad experience

There were many things wrong with this course, truly a huge disappointment! Instructor was very unprofessional and had a very inconsistent teaching style. The school failed to respond appropriately to serious issues brought to their attention. There also seemed to be a bias towards PT'S rather than being equal to all professionals in the class.

Reply from Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy

Jo Jo,

We are very disappointed to receive this feedback considering the course spans 9 days and your judgment was formed on day 3 when you voluntarily removed yourself from the class. Massage Therapists often find the course challenging but nearly all remain engaged, working hard to finish successfully. The evaluations from the rest of the class contained no mention of your reference to the “unprofessional” conduct of the instructor. Considering there were 22 students in the course, you were the only student responding with such harsh criticism.

Sincerely,

Steve Norton

Great certification

It was a very intense certification, 9 days full of information, and hands on practice! A little overwhelming at times however, it was a lot of fun, and at the end I felt confident to be able to go in the clinic and treat patients.

Great experience--would recommend

The school was a great experience and I felt very prepared afterward. My only complaint was the course was taught by two separate teachers (the first for the first few days, and the second for the end).....I just felt that there were inconsistencies and very different styles of teaching. This was not necessarily a bad thing, however, during such an intensive program, consistency would have been greatly appreciated.

Norton School offers a wonderfully challenging certification program

I just finished my certification for complete decongestive therapy and manual lymphatic drainage with Norton School. The curriculum was challenging and the program drew students from different healthcare professions. These included nurses, respiration, occupational, physical, licensed massage therapists and natural health doctors. The main concern is whether insurance, medicare and medicaid would pay for the sessions. I am in private practice and excited to be trying out the new techniques with my client/patients who are especially compliant.

Research thoroughly before you chose!

Although the course appeared as if you would be getting your monies worth, it was not. It was unorganized as well as there were no true patients with Lymphedema present to understand the process. Not even videos to illustrate the sequence of the process. I enjoyed the first instructor as she related material to that of a student. However, the 2nd instructor was wrapped up in herself. She was always concerned about her lunch and going on a break. She also had to many personal issues going on that she shared daily. If a person were to take this course make sure you ask about your progress throughout the course. One student failed on the last day but there was no mention to her that she was in jeopardy. Always fully research all the schools and ask around of others opinion. I am quite sure I would have gone to their semi-competitor (External Reference) instead.

Challenging and Thorough Curriculum = Confident Therapist

I was fortunate enough to complete both the Full Complete Decongestive Therapy course and the Advanced course for Treatment of Head and Neck Lymphedema. Every instructor I had was amazing! Michelle Kondracki, Kathryn Taylor-Anilowski, and Brad Smith. I am a Speech Pathologist by trade but have a passion for lymphedema treatment for the head and neck cancer patients I see. I was anxious heading into the full certification course knowing I'd be the only one without the whole-body anatomy and physiology training that PT/OT/LMT's have. The home study portion of the course was amazing and truly gave me a solid foundation for everything else we learned hands-on in class. Once class started, every one of my colleagues in class was so supportive and really made the learning enviornment a fun one. I was definitely challeneged by the instructors to think critically in both courses and it was this professional challenge that in the end made me feel very confident in providing treatment to my patients! I would definitely recommend the Norton School for anyone looking to be trained in lymphedema management!
