When the item is not available
When the item is not available, they should clearly say it is out of stock and not to take the money and then send an email, apologizing that the item is out of stock. Not good for business.

Firstly, I apologise for the out of stock situation.
We experienced a massive uptake of sales after Christmas which took us over the edge with stock. So some customers had half their order with the rest to follow.
There is a clear message on the website about the stock situation and emails sent to everyone offering a refund or a discount voucher if they are happy to wait for the rest of their order.
I am sorry that you feel we let you down despite everything we have done to compensate.

I am curious about the company strategy for reducing plastic in packaging. I received my order in an envelope padded with bubble wrap and it didn't sit well with me.
