I have been a loyal Onmo customer for over two years, but my experience following a fraud incident has been extremely poor and distressing.
On Sunday 18th January, I was scammed by someone impersonating Onmo. An attempted £500 transaction on my credit card was declined, but my saved card details were then used to pay £25 into my Onmo account, followed by £185 taken from my Onmo credit card by a third party (Airtime Rewards).
I reported this immediately via Onmo’s helpline on Monday 19th January and was told the matter would be passed to the fraud team. I also explicitly asked for my account to be frozen to prevent further transactions.
Since then, communication from Onmo has been almost non-existent. I have received no meaningful updates, no explanation of what is happening, and no reassurance. The only action taken was sending out a replacement card, which I refuse to activate as I no longer feel safe using Onmo.
In contrast, the third party involved (Airtime Rewards) investigated straight away, suspended the fraudulent account, and confirmed they are happy to assist with any investigation. Onmo, however, has shown a complete lack of urgency or transparency.
When I logged back into the app, I discovered my balance was -£7.37, with no explanation, pushing my credit usage beyond its limit and impacting my credit score — something I have worked hard to build.
I have logged a formal complaint, reported the matter to Action Fraud and the FCA, and am preparing to escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service due to poor complaint handling, failure to safeguard my account, and the ongoing stress this has caused.
For a regulated financial company dealing with fraud and vulnerable customers, this level of communication and care is unacceptable. I no longer trust Onmo with my personal or financial information and would strongly caution others based on my experience.
