I cannot recommend Miss Selma (lawyer)…

I cannot recommend Miss Selma (lawyer) and Miss Annie Yu highly enough.

I transferred my case to Selma during an ongoing legal dispute, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made. From day one, Selma has been exceptionally experienced, transparent, and professional. She took the time to explain every step of the process clearly, ensuring I always understood my position and options.

What has impressed me most is the outstanding level of communication. Both Selma and Annie are incredibly responsive, often answering my questions within minutes and providing reassurance during what has been a very stressful time. Their dedication, attention to detail, and commitment to their clients are second to none.

Beyond her extensive legal expertise, Selma is genuinely kind, approachable, and compassionate. It is clear that she truly cares about achieving the best possible outcome for her clients and will do everything within her power to help. Annie has also been fantastic throughout, providing excellent support and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Seemed Promising at First, but Poor Communication and Lack of Progress Led to Disappointment

At the beginning, the paralegal Mr. Chan quickly understood our needs and clearly explained the next steps, which gave us confidence and expectations for a smooth process.

However, the experience afterwards was extremely disappointing. There were repeated errors in documents, inconsistent records, and long delays in responding to emails. Even basic communication became difficult, and it felt like we were constantly chasing updates with no progress made.

We were originally told the initial draft engagement letter and fee proposal would take around 1–2 weeks, which we considered reasonable. In reality, after more than three months of follow-ups, this first step still had not been completed. When we called to enquire, we were only given vague responses about staffing issues and meetings, without proper updates.

Eventually, we decided to terminate the instruction politely. The cancellation was acknowledged quickly within hours.

Overall, the service fell far below expectations in terms of communication, reliability, and professionalism.

I personally would not recommend Mr. Chan based on my experience

I personally would not recommend Mr. Chan, as my experience with him has been extremely unprofessional and frustrating.

1. Repeated lack of response – There were more than 10 occasions where Mr. Chan failed to reply or severely delayed his response, causing major delays in my case.

2. Serious mishandling of documents – Important documents, including the retainer, were repeatedly incorrect or not sent at all. This shows a worrying lack of care and attention.

3. Ignored client queries – My questions about fees and legal procedures were left unanswered for extended periods. Basic communication and professionalism were completely lacking.

4. No fee breakdown or plan – Mr. Chan has not provided a clear explanation of fees or a proper action plan for next steps.

This level of service is unacceptable for any legal professional. My experience with Mr. Chan was very disappointing, and I personally would not work with him again.

Persistent Delays and Lack of Transparency

Earlier, more than fifteen of us engaged this firm for litigation. The following describes what transpired (I am speaking solely on my own behalf):

Our first consultation in August was a positive experience. We met with a paralegal from the firm, Mr. Chan, who quickly understood the issues we were facing, proposed strategies, outlined possible approaches and estimated costs, and even encouraged us to gather additional affected parties to join the litigation. His advice gave us confidence that pursuing this action would be feasible. Our group therefore emailed him to formally instruct the firm to proceed in early September.

However, despite two and a half months of repeated attempts to communicate with him—initially by email, later via WhatsApp with his consent, and finally by phone—he was still unable to issue a formal engagement letter. Issues encountered included:
1. Multiple non-responses or delayed responses (at least ten times), which hindered progress.
2. Important documents (the Retainer) contained repeated errors or were not delivered (claimed email delivery issues), indicating poor handling.
3. Client inquiries—such as those concerning fees and legal procedures—were persistently ignored, showing a lack of basic professional communication and respect.
4. Up to the point of termination in mid-November, he had still not provided a clear explanation of fees or a plan for next steps.

As clients, we remained courteous and respectful throughout our communications. Yet the attitude and efficiency we experienced fell far short of reasonable expectations. Mr. Chan was fully aware that our litigation was time-sensitive, and it was only because he initially appeared reliable that we chose to engage them. After repeated delays and more than two months without even receiving a formal engagement letter, we no longer believed the firm could meet the necessary timeline.

If the firm had faced any difficulties that prevented it from taking on the matter, why not inform us honestly from the beginning to avoid wasting our time? This prolonged delay not only demonstrated a lack of respect but also caused us to lose confidence in the firm. Many of us had even discussed engaging it for other future matters and recommending it to friends. Instead, it effectively lost the potential business of over a dozen clients at once. Such handling is truly astonishing—remarkable, even.

Lastly, here is the “Mission” statement on the firm’s website:
"We pride ourselves on our responsiveness and commitment to keeping clients informed throughout the legal process.
You can expect regular updates, clear explanations of your options, and timely responses to your inquiries, which helps to alleviate the stress and uncertainty often associated with legal proceedings."

How ironic.
