Not even worth 1 star - rude and poor customer service

Not even worth 1 star, such a poor company. Don't understand how they can be still in business.
I have been trying change my current tariff to a cheaper fix deal one that was offered by Ovo Energy. However, this does not seems to be supported by their business process nor their system. In order to get this sorted out, I have been spending so much time on the phone and on chat.
I agree with all the comments made on this site that their Customer Service Agents are rude, don't understand the issue and are not interested in trying to understand let's alone try to resolve the issue.
Escalating the complaint doesn't help either, after waiting for 2 days their lies and promises are useless.
If you can, please stay away from this company at all cost.

AWFUL

AWFUL. They have been hounding me for months to pay over £450 a MONTH for a 1 bed flat where I was barely at home! I've ended up moving out due to the stress and had to take it to the energy ombudsman.
Absolute crooks, no help at all whenever I tried to put a complaint in kept getting brushed off, or sometimes they just hung up on me half way through my phone call!

OVO Energy make up false information

I moved into a new flat in May 2023, and had no idea who supplied the electricity. Then the meter reader left a calling card and I sent my details to them as requested including meter reading and serial number of meter. Then on 6th June 2023 I get a welcome pack from OVO Energy, followed by a bill on 9th June for £110. However, the meter readings on the bill did not match what I had sent them, also the serial number of the meter was different.
When I tried to contact them by email the response was always the same, that my email did not match that for the account. So I tried to register my email which required my name and date of birth, and again the same response that it did not match the account information. By July I was sent another bill now for £275, and decided to call them to find out what was going on. To my shock, I find out that they had used a bogus date of birth and email to open the account, information that I had not yet provided them with.
Still OVO continue to send me bills made out with the wrong meter serial number, despite sending them countless photos of the meter. Every time I contact them I have to deal with a different person, some unable to speak clear English, some having a different resolution to my problem that just does not solve the problem. It's all becoming a bit too much for me and don't know how to get the help I need.

The worst company OVO

Agree with everyone here. Everyone has to get together and ruin OVO. Been paying my bills but went a little behind. Now they sent a debt collector called Sean O'Boyle who l will deal with separately. Will be paying the £200 l owe and leaving them after only 4 months! They are trying their luck to get £36 for Sean O'Boyle's visit. All disproportionate and excessive. This company needs to collapse soon. An absolute disgrace of a company. They even lie on their paperwork they have 35,000 goid trust pilot reviews when it is obvious here 99% of the reviews are awful. They are also trying to coerce me into a smart meter. Am speaking with a lawyer and the police about this company. They have already been fined £4 million, now they need their licence suspended, the company wound up with customers being transferred elsewhere.

Unhelpful/inaccurate Support

I complained to OVO that they had overcharged me by about £150. They insisted they hadn't. So I changed supplier. They have just refunded me £150 that I had been overcharged. I had been quite happy with them, but they drove me away.

Sorry there's not a zero star option

Sorry there's not a zero star option. After over 2 hours this morning on live chat, still no resolution to two seemingly straightforward issues. None of the responders seem capable of dealing with simple investigation of an issue, or even understanding what your issue is. I have tried using live chat a couple of
times as phone takes ages to be connected, and I have on too many occasions ended up with someone with a strong foreign accent, poor grasp of English language, and no idea anyway of what to do

OVO are incompetent

Ovo put in a smart meter that didn't work.

They replaced the meter 4 days later with an old one which was sitting at 12345 units (or whatever). Those 4 days being early December 2022 when we had no heating and it was -5C.

We then got a bill for £8600 for 29 days. Yes, EIGHT THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED POUNDS. I reckon they calculated it from 0 not from 12345 although they're not admitting that.

They also only paid the first payment of the government's winter payment then stopped. Well, they might as well steal as well as be useless.

They then closed our complaint saying that they migrated our account and changed the account number so the complaint was settled so far as they were concerned.

We were then told that Citizens Advice now handle all SSE / OVO complaints - which is nonsense - but I suppose it allows the Customer Service Exec Director to hit SLA and get a bonus so at least someone is a winner.

"Pay the bill or the bailiffs will be at your door" was the next line, followed by, "And we'll be contacting the credit reference agencies".

So... off to the Ombudsman it is. I'm thinking lawyers and a class action suit might be next. Anyone know how to do that?

One year of stress for nothing

We have been with OVO for over a year now. Since then we have generated power through our solar panels. OVO now owe us £1700. We've submitted the same set of forms multiple times, met their every excuse to not pay us but still nothing! Customer service team have slopey shoulders and pass the buck to everyone just to meet their target and close the case. The FIT team seem to mainly lie and not actually do anything. Come on OVO, you even paid someone else our money!!!
Absolutely shocking business. If you have the chance - don't get involved.

I have been in a dispute with ovo about NOT wanting a smart meter for over a year.

This was resolved for a few months but now I have Morrissonds or whatever they are called, knocking on my door saying they need to do a meter reading. I have already told the dimwit twice that I send my readings online.

I have tried emailing ovo - emails don't work. I phoned on Tuesday 5 August and explained the situation and also stating that I was withdrawing their Implied Right of Access to my property.

I was told I would be getting a call within 24hrs. It is now Friday no call so called AGAIN. Was told I would get a call back - still waiting.

What a complete bunch of morons.

Will be changing suppliers once I have reported them to Ofgem.

Absolutely horrendous. On the phone for nearly an hour to a member of staff who cannot understand what I am saying and is continuously asking me to repeat my address, account number etc. Without actually getting anywhere. People are laughing and shouting in the background. Absolutely awful, 1 star is too generous.

A horror story that just won't end

I have been having major problems with OVO over the past six months. I never chose to be an OVO customer - I was forced into doing business them when they took over SSE. It has been a truly horrific experience and CEO Stephen Fitzpatrick should be ashamed of himself.

In 2022, OVO Energy was ranked second worst (only behind Utilita) in customer service by Citizens Advice. I wanted to switch to Octopus - the only utilities firm that is recommended by Which? Magazine.

But before I could switch, OVO hit me with a demand for £33,000. OVO made a mistake when it migrated my account from SSE. I tried for three months to get their customer service people to resolve the issue, but failed. It was only when I approached the wonderful Helen Crane at the Daily Mail that OVO apologised, canceled the debt and gave me £100 in compensation. I have to say the £100 didn’t come close to reimbursing me for all the time and trouble OVO caused me.

Google - 'Ovo billed me £33,000 for a two bedroom flat'

I would have hoped that would have been the end of my problems with OVO, but I was wrong.

I put the flat on the market at the end of 2022. My daughter moved out at the end of December and the flat was unoccupied for most of 2023. I moved the furniture out in June and the new owners took over the property on July 2.

I supplied a meter reading when I moved out, and a photograph of the meter. The reading was 9723.

Unfortunately OVO refused to use my meter reading and insisted on using its own estimate - 9895. As a result OVO is claiming that I owe them money when in fact it’s the exact opposite - by my reckoning they owe me close to £600.

Latterly I have been corresponding with Simone Watts, who describes herself as an Advanced Resolution Specialist, which is nice, but while she is lovely to deal with she is as much use as the proverbial chocolate teapot. Simone never did get back to me as promised. In fact she has been on holiday for the last two weeks and no one dealt with her emails in her absence so I have been emailing into a void. I phoned and had a long conversation with another charming Advanced Resolution Specialist but she was unable to assist me and was not prepared to pass me on to a manager.

She did, however, tell me that according to her computer, I now owe OVO more than £500.

That is impossible.

The flat was empty for most of 2023, with OVO continuing to take more than £220 a month from me by direct debit. Over that period OVO took more than £1,300 from me with very little gas or electricity being used.

In a statement OVO sent on June 28 this year, I was almost £600 in credit. How do I go from being almost £600 in credit to more than £500 in debt, when the flat is empty? No one at OVO seems to be able to explain that to me!

OVO is using an estimated reading of 9895 to close the account. The true final reading was 9723 - I photographed the meter to make sure there was no mistake!

The difference is 172 cubic feet. 172 cubic feet is equivalent to 5531 KWh. At a price of 10.9p per KWh, OVO owes me £602.88

I am clearly getting nowhere with OVO's customer relations people, and I am reluctant to bother the Daily Mail again. My intention is to raise a claim in the small claims court to recover the money that the company owes me

Scammer energy company

They took my money £170,as a direct debit.but they're not supplying us our gas and electric in our property. Because our previous supplier as a prepaid meter.we are still buying our gas and electric from my own pocket. We told them from the beginning that our meter is in a prepaid meter and would like to change to a monthly plan meter. They've told me no need to change the meter. All they can do is to change to their system using our old prepaid meter.last Monday, bank holiday we don't have our gas and electric in our house we tried to ring them but cannot be reached because no office hours. We called 105 to checked if there is a power cut in our area.they said all goes well no power cut.they advised us to call.our energy supplier. We don't know what to do? Because there's a young children leaving with me. I been calling them every day until today.they're all useless and rubbish. They can't help me. even they are not supplying our gas and electric in our house. They are charging us a daily consumptions both gas and electric. And now I moved to different energy supplier. I highly NOT recommend and DON'T TRUST OVO ENERGY!

The worst provider/Customer service…

The worst provider/Customer service I've ever come across and I've dealt with some rotters!
I'm a new tenent and customer so far their app used to top up electric kept crashing each time I tried to top up. I was topping up £15 each time, each time it said it had failed it still took the money without topping up the meter over £70 worth. They promised this would be refunded in up to 5 days!! Sure took it quicker!
Well over 5 days and still waiting to be refunded.
Now the Gas, it's an old style card meter, previous tenent left a £90 odd Debt on over five hours of calls multiple trips to pick up and register new cards that supposedly will clear the debt and still the debs remains, I've now topped up £35 worth of gas and got £4 after it's taken debt and emergy each time. I've sat on the phone for again hours twice now and soon as an operator pics up and I ask to be put through to complaints they hang up!!.
