WARNING-

WARNING; We are having a terrible time with this company. We have gone back to using the OEM part as our experience of this aftermarket part is much worse.

We bought an exhaust elbow for Yanmar marine engine that came apart after 6 months of use. Our engineer advised us the threads failed so we duly returned it to this company. They refute it was faulty and tell us it was fitted incorrectly. The reason being our engineer used standard practice and applied exhaust paste to prevent toxic gases escaping. They say there is a compound around the threads that our engineer removed. If there was it was invisible to the naked eye!
So we have asked repeatedly for more information about this "compound", so as to understand how it can prevent toxic exhaust gases leaking into the boat if no exhaust paste is applied. Silence.
There is no information WHATSOEVER on the website product description with regards any special compound, there were no fitting instructions supplied and it certainly wasn't obvious from looking at it.
SO BEWARE. The elbow joint union we had just blew apart whilst we were at sea causing severe seawater ingress into the engine bay.
Update: still no instructions supplied post event despite asking repeatedly and no detail of the mystery compound so that we can ascertain its performance properties.

Unfortunately the customer’s engineer decided to remove the supplied galling prevention compound and instead used exhaust assembly paste. This is bad practice on high torque 316 stainless tapered joints and the joint therefore simply came undone. We tried very hard to explain why this happened and have offered to clean the returned parts and re-ship. However, it seems that some people just cannot be helped!

My parts arrived damaged due to incorrect packaging and then I was insulted when reporting the issue.

My parts arrived damaged due to insufficient / incorrect packaging.

Both connector screws for the starter motor were bent and the threads completely destroyed on one of the screws.

I documented the damage and contacted the company only to a week later receive a response saying that the damage was "unlikely due to insufficient packaging" and that it’s perfectly fine to use the starter in its present condition.

I have pictures of the damaged part, where the part penetrated the thin and soft padding and where the part was sticking out through the exterior box.

After 2 weeks of arguing over email I received a 20% discount on the starter.

The repair: screws had to be heated, bent, cut and re-threaded.

I have had a word with the team and it seems this issue has been resolved.
