Poor business operations

I had my PA State inspection at Pep Boys in Philadelphia on 1/3/2024, plus additional work totaling $1,412.35. Received the customer invoice with the wrong name plus a VISA payment receipt with blank sub totals & final total. Placed complaint with corporate, after store stated only corporate could handle. Corporate sent problem back to the store which refused to issue invoice in my name. No corrected receipt provided. Reported problem to the State Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs and VISA corporate office which are investigating. Addendum-State Attorney's General's office got results.

is there a less than 1 star option

Is there an option to rate this experience lower than one star? I noticed that the inside of my tires were displaying cords, indicating that I needed new tires. I had previously made a reservation for tires and brought my car in for the installation. However, upon arrival, I was informed that the tires I had ordered were not available due to a computer glitch. Consequently, I had to purchase an upgraded set of tires instead. I bought two new front tires for a total of $445. Now, after only six months, I have noticed that these new tires are once again showing cords on the inside. When reviewing my invoice from Pepboys, I realized that it mentioned a "free alignment check" without any indication of a problem. Upon contacting the service center I had visited, the manager explained that the "free alignment check" simply consisted of determining if the steering wheel pulls and if the tires appear to be straight. This falls far short of an actual alignment check. Although I refrained from debating the manager regarding the lack of professionalism in this statement, our conversation continued and he mentioned that he had caller ID and could see my invoice. I asked him, given that my invoice includes a 65,000-mile warranty and a road hazard warranty, what could be done to address the issue. He responded by offering a $60 discount on the cost if I were to purchase two new tires and an alignment. This is not the first negative experience I have had with Pepboys, and I have now completely lost faith in this store. I will never recommend it to others and will actively discourage anyone from going there.

Despite making an appointment for new tire installation, I still had to wait over three hours for my car to be serviced. The entire staff was standing around in the garage doing nothing while I waited. When I asked how the brakes were, they asked me to step out of the garage and didn’t answer my question. Every single person was rude and treated me like they were doing me a favor. I’m a paying customer and I’ll never use Pep Boys again.

Pep Boys

I stop at one of the Pep Boys in San Antonio,Texas. Before going back home to Oklahoma. When a customer that was sitting in the waiting room talking about how they’re going to or did in the past meeting up with one of Pep Boys coworkers after closing time to have sex with them in the back. That is just unprofessional behavior for Pep Boys employees doing something like that at their workplace. I know now not to come to this Pep Boys off of Bandera/1604

Stay away from Pep Boys at 5 Nj-17

Stay away from Pep Boys at 5 Nj-17 Hasbrouck Heights, NJ 07604. I took my Honda Fit in to repair a coolant leak and I can unequivocally say they did a poor job. They charged me $1800 to fix the radiator leak and as soon as I got the car home I saw it had an oil leak.

I took the car back two days later, they assured me the new leak was not related to the work they had done two days earlier (must have been a coincidence, right?) and that it would cost me another $600 to fix the oil leak that didn't exist before I took it to them in the first place.

Let them service your car at your own risk. Beware

Pep Boys should hire better employees.

Pep Boys should hire better employees in Palm Bay, FL

I googled repair shops for my Mercedes Benz and these guys came up. I refused to take it to the dealership in Melbourne FL because they’re reviews are horrible, so I decided on Pep boys. Long story short, I waited 2 hours just for them to tell me they didn’t have the tool to take the bolts off of my tires. I would expect that if you’re claiming to repair a certain type of car that you would have the correct tools to fix it. The young mechanics were on their cellphones and the older ones were walking around pretending to work. I explained to the guy at the counter what the issues were with my car, but he didn’t bother to tell the mechanic that was actually going to do the work, so I have to explain it again. They never even offered to look my car over before sending me back on the road. Although, I told them that the ABS light kept coming on, they never looked at my brakes when it was on the lift. Nevertheless, my engine light came on while I was driving back home. Simply put, I have never seen a bunch of lazy mechanics like this place has. They simply refused to help me.

REFERENCE

REFERENCE: WARRANTY CASE #117514

I am so dissatisfied with the Customer Service I have received regarding the above-mentioned warranty case. Pep Boys at 7469 Park Meadows Dr, Lone Tree, CO, replaced my air conditioner compressor on August 12, 2023. I paid $1264.78 for all work and parts. On September 14, 2023, the air conditioner was no longer working. I took it to my local mechanic, where I live in Idaho, and the diagnosis was that the a/c compressor was leaking at case half. I contacted Pep Boys Customer Service on September 22, 2023, and to date, November 10, 2023, I am still trying to get CUSTOMER SERVICE. Yesterday, a check for $857.19 was delivered to my home. This check only covers parts and labor, nothing else. So, I have paid Pep Boys $407.59 for a working air conditioner for 30 days. This is wrong. I am a very, very unsatisfied customer and will never use Pep Boys again. I will let everyone know that their work, warranty, and customer service are all worthless.

Very disapointed with my first and last experience in pep Boys

I bought a pre-owned Tundra 2014, and I left the truck in Pep Boys for change engine oil, oil filter, air filter, front and rear diff.oil, and checking if it's all OK.
It was very expansive , more than 750 bucks.
If I had known that I would have done the job by myself, I've done my Toyota trucks maintenances myself for decades, but I didn't have the time.
So, once at home, I realized they didn't check nor refilled the coolant, the windshield liquid, they didn't replace the air filter, and the bolt of the rear diff. was not tightened properly and it began to leak oil drips.

D'Angelo called me about 11:30 saying truck was ready to go!

All good and excellent customer service by the whole crew.
I had this store install tires on my Wife's truck back in July of this year and now we have them do scheduled maintenance also.
Never had any issues...

Long story short-please dont go to pep boys

Long story short: Brought my 2005 Land Rover LR3 on October 5 2023 to the Patchogue, N.Y. store. I knew what it needed and thought it would be a relatively smooth process. (They are after all ASE-certified mechanics charging 148.00 an hour). Right. I knew it needed an ignition coil because my very skilled mechanic brother who usually fixes my truck let me know what was needed. I could not bring it to his shop because he was recovering from cancer surgery and I did not want to bother him. Pep Boys informed me my truck was leaking oil from the valve cover gasket which screwed up spark plugs and more than one ignition coil. Also added some story about two of the ignition coils that were new but tightened so hard they couldn't get to look at them. Whatever. I should have just taken the truck home and taken it elsewhere. I really did not know what to do and needed my truck to get to work (I work with autistic children in their homes) so I decided to leave it with them. Two weeks later I pick the truck up and it is still running like sh--. Now I have to fight with these stupid people. I will be taking my truck to a shop that specializes in Land Rovers which I should have done in the first place but only found out the place existed while I was miserably waiting for my truck to be finished. I do not know what is wrong with these people. I can't treat the families I work with less than professionally. DO NOT GO TO PEP BOYS FOR ANY REASON . Two weeks and my truck is not running any better than before. Buyer beware

Pep Boys has the worst service and is…

Pep Boys has the worst service and is the most disorganized place ever. I would never ever recommend them to anyone. My car did not pass inspection (not at Pep Boys) due to needing tires. I called and ordered tires on October 7th and scheduled an appointment for October 11th. I arranged for rides to and from work due to this appointment so I dropped my car off in the morning before I went into work. I was called a few hours later telling me that they didn't have my tires which at this point I'm unsure why they didn't call me the night before instead of letting me bring my car there for nothing. At this time the service manager I spoke with was going to order them and schedule an appointment but due to them supposedly ordering them and them not coming in it was decided that he would order them and call me when they came into the store, then schedule an appointment to have them installed. Due to this inconvenience he did offer to not charge me for the alignment. On October 18th (a week later) I still had not heard anything so called in the morning but no one answered and it kept ringing. I again called later and spoke with someone who stated they were from a different store and would be taking over this store. He put me on hold to go look/find where my tires were but at some point I was disconnected so called back. He told me that they did not have my tires which I expressed frustration with this and explained the prior issue. He stated that he would call another store and supposedly go get them personally himself. On October 19th I had tried calling the store several times throughout the day to check in but every time I called there was no answer and the phone kept ringing. I also called customer service/support whatever they want to call themselves (although they do nothing) who only told me they would let people know. On October 20th I again called the store in the morning to avail it kept ringing with no one answering. I again called customer service/support who again said the same thing they would let someone know. By this time I am beyond angry because now I only have 10 days to get/find tires, have them installed and take it back/make an appointment at the place where I failed for a re-inspection. I demanded that someone called today as it is Friday and I know they won't be working on the weekend and then there goes by more time. Of course no one called so I called several times throughout the day only for them to tell me they would let someone know which who knows if they did just like they probably never ordered my tires. So now I had to go elsewhere to find tires and as you can imagine couldn't not get tires ordered, in and an appointment until October 31st which then means I will be driving around without my car inspected because I will then have to make an appointment which means I can't make one until November 1st or depending if I can get in the same day I get my tires done. Pep Boys has severely inconvenienced me to the point where I could be pulled over and get a ticket due to not having my car inspected. I will never use them again. They don't know how to call and communicate, they are disorganized and clearly don't answer phones/call back meaning they don't want your service.

It took 24 hours to get the tire to the store but 3 days to get Noel to order it. That’s with him saying you need a new tire. I had to literally go back to the store and watch him go on his computer and order the tire. It took ten minutes to order the tire. Oh and he wouldn’t go outside to look at the tire or look up the warranty on his computer. I had to get the last receipt I had when they fixed the flat to show him the tire name/size. He mumbled and dosent have clear communication skills. I was sitting down 20 feet from him and he started to talk to me but didn’t call my name or even make eye contact. My adult daughter did not feel comfortable with this person so she called me to deal with this representative of pep boys

they are not trasparent and a ripoff of the consumer

I went in for a wheel alignment after having a tie rod replaced. The attendant there went in the back to see if he could get me in. He said he could and ask me if i had a backup camera,i told him yes.He said that it would cost 99.99 for the alignment and an extra 29.99 for the backup camera because he said he had to align the camera with the alignment. I have never heard of that before never the less i said ok. I pick the car up and went home. I live in the same town of matteson, illinois that the pep boys is located. The next day on the way to work got on the ramp of the expressway, at the end trying to merge into traffic i lost control of my vehicle went into the 3rd lane before i gained control. So I crept back to pep boys to let them know what had happened and for them to correct the problem. I get there and told the manager, brandon that i was there last night and this morning i almost had an accident after having my wheels align. My wife came to pick me up and i left the vehicle there and for him to call me when it was ready. He called me, talking about the manager and said that it would be an additional 39.99 to look at the car. I ask him why is there an extra charge when i,m bring it back from the previous night. He said that they did not check the car before they gave me the alignment. So in order to check for the problem i had to agree to pay the additional money because i couldn't leave there without knowing what was wrong. So he called me back and told me that i needed 2 lower control arms and that would cost me 385.00 in labor plus parts.I told him i will see him later to pick up the car,and for him to not do anything until i arrive.I get there the next day and talked to the service manager and ask him why is he charging me to look at my car after they just serviced it and that it has a 90 day warranty he said that was separte from the alignment. At that point i called matteson police to come because they would not give me my key. They came and talk to the manager and he refuse to give me my car without paying so the police suggested i call corporate office. conclusion they should have check the car to see if it could take an alignment because what ever they did made it worse and almost cause me an accident.they dont know what they are doing.By the way they was dealing with another customer that brought their tire for repair and that same mechanic put a big hole in his tire with the tire machine

They will destroy your car!

They will destroy your car. Read the previous reviews. They are basically an expensive chop shop with zero corporate accountability.

In April 2023, we took our 2017 Ford 350 to Pep Boys at 10119 McMullen Rd. Riverview, FL
33569. The A/C suddenly stopped working. They serviced the vehicle on 4/19/23, and I was
charged for a new blower and installation. The total cost was $712.16. I picked up the car, and
a few days later, the same issue occurred. I took the truck back to Pep Boys, and they stated
that the problem had been misdiagnosed and that they would make it right. They noted that
the fuse box needed to be replaced. I agreed for them to rebuild the fuse box. They kept the
truck for a total of 3 weeks.
Long story short, they caused $7000 of damage. They sent an "independent" inspector to inspect the damage prior to it being repaired by Brandon Ford. The claims agent Ty, avoided me for 1 and a half months. She called today to state they are not paying for the damaged. They will destroy your car and gaslight you for 7 months . Don't do it! I am just getting started with this fight.

STAY AWAY PLEASE

On 09/24/2023 at 14:00, I went to Pep Boys (2754 E Bell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85032) to oil change and service my car after 10k miles on the car which only has 24k total mileage in the meter.
Annex 1 and Annex 2 (attached documents).

When I came home, I noticed the Engine Check Light. I had no engine lights whatsoever for 10k miles, as soon as I went to Pep Boys, I got the Engine Check Light.
What is coincidence?

To verify this, you can pull my car's history, I had done no repairs whatsoever for 10k miles.

To have a cherry on the top, the manager L***, his first response was ''Oh! this is not our problem. You will need to book an appointment and it will cost you a diagnostics fee of $100-200''

Seriously?

Forget about the warranty and stuff. The work you did (12 hours ago) The customer paid almost $1000 for the oil change and brakes just 12 hours ago. That possibility has created an issue, the least you can do is move from your desk/chair and come to the car and maybe plug in the ODII and do a quick scan of the car computer.

There are garages that are offering FREE diagnostics.

As soon as you did service the problem occurred. Nothing before for 10K miles.

I am so disappointed and disheartened.

I will be pursuing a suit and contacting regulatory authorities. I wanted to give you a chance to make things right.

go somewhere else.

WORST AUTO EXPERIENCE EVER. this is for the 6825 Kannapolis road landover MD location. should be zero stars. my car had overheated and appeared to be a coolant leak and was looking to tow somewhere. i had called to different auto shops to check availability around 3-4 pm, this pep boys location told me they would at least look at my car that same day. this was the main reason i came here. the next day comes and waited and never received an update to my car, so i called several times to inquire and was given vague answers. near the end of day, i called and was told they fixed it and was letting it run for an hour and should be ready around then (6pm or so) and would be given a call. however, i never got a call, and there phone line was dead so I could not confirm if that car was good to go.

the next day i called in the AM to ask what the status of my car and was told they had not worked on it and was waiting for my "approval" to work on it; which was a shock and disappointing given the previous conversation. from there, again never called once this entire time, i called around noon and was told my car was ready to be picked up. i picked it up, drove to work (about 20 min drive) and noticed my coolant reservoir had depleted quite noticeably. when i drove home (another 20 mins) it was almost empty. it became clear i was gushing coolant and the leaking issue was worse.

i was clearly misled and learned this location was backed up with other work and there car work skills are bad.
