A very poor first impression.

A very poor first impression.

I tried joining as a new customer over a week ago, and supplied all the information that was requested. Everything suggested that my account would be ready to use within a few hours, or at the latest the next day. And yet here we are over a week later, and whenever I try to log in, I'm met with the message: "We are still processing some details of your registration. We will contact you shortly via email if we need further information to finish setting up your account."

I reached out via chat, but they could give no timescale at all for how long this would take.

Looking at the other GENUINE reviews here (i.e. the ones where people have written more than one review, or where it's not an employee dropping their own name for good service), I think I'll give up and look elsewhere.

UPDATE/EDIT - My account was finally opened on 3 August, a full four weeks after applying. I have immediately requested that the account be closed – If it's this difficult to even open an account, when most other providers manage to do it instantly, then it inspires zero confidence in JPMorgan's ongoing management.
The cynic in me also believes that my applying for an Avios offer (which expired on 31 July) also had a bearing on how long it took them to open the account. By not opening the account until 3 August, this made me no longer eligible for any Avios under the offer.

Hello Richard,

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry your first impression has been a disappointing one.

While I’m unable to access or review any individual registration via Trustpilot, I can explain that as a regulated firm we’re required to complete identity and verification checks before an account can be fully opened and used. In most cases these checks are completed quickly, but occasionally they can take longer (for example if additional verification is needed or if information needs to be reviewed), and they don’t always come with a precise timeframe at the point you contact us — although we appreciate how frustrating that is when you’re waiting to get started.

We hope you have now been able to join and begin your investing journey!

Frustrating

I requested transfers out for all my account SIPP, ISA, LISA so I can close this account, but they left small amounts rather than transferred it all out. They say it can take 4 months to send the rest but it has been years for the SIPP and it still sits there.

This year I tried transferring the remainder out with a fresh transfer, but it was rejected (reason - no money left to transfer!), but yet they won't let me close the account because of the money left in the account. Bizarre.

I've contacted multiple times, everyone says something different. Half the time it doesn't even make sense. I had to explain to the person on the phone why they couldn't transfer the amount left in my pension to my bank (it's a pension!). They then said they would send my money to charity and that it was there terms to do so - I checked the terms and it only says if it's less than £1 or if they can't contact you - I had to explain it was more than £1 and I am literally on the phone talking to you.

I just want to close my account.

I've been waiting for a call back since the 25th of June to resolve this issue. I chased this up today, and they just say they can't resolve it on the phone and to wait for a call back. Very frustrating.

I've now sent in a complaint so that I can wait the required amount of time to escalate to the financial ombudsman as I think that will be the only way to actually close the account!

Hello Emma,

Thank you for your feedback — I’m sorry to hear how frustrating it’s been trying to fully transfer out and close your accounts, especially where small residual amounts appear to be left behind and you’ve received inconsistent explanations.

While I’m unable to identify you or access any account details via Trustpilot, I can clarify that residual balances can sometimes remain due to timing of final interest/dividends. For ISAs and LISAs if the residual balance is less than £1, we will pay this to charity. However, as per the T&Cs for Pension clients, if the cumulative residual payments to your Account over a period of three months are less than £25, an administration charge will be raised to clear the balance and the funds will be paid to a registered charity of our pension administrator’s choice.

You can find full details of additional T&Cs which apply to our Pension client’s here:
https://embarkpensions.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/jpmorganpi-terms.pdf

If you’ve requested account closure, you may also find it helpful to review the process here: https://support.personalinvesting.jpmorgan.com/?article=115000356992-Closing-your-JPMorgan-Personal-Investing-account — as outlined, an account may remain visible for a period and will be fully deactivated no later than 12 months after the closure request to allow for any final dividends or interest to be paid in.

You also mentioned you’ve raised a complaint. In line with Financial Ombudsman Service rules, we have up to eight weeks to investigate a complaint and provide a final response, and we take complaints seriously with the aim of reaching a suitable resolution.

If you still need support to get everything fully transferred and closed, please contact us using the options (including online routes) here: https://www.personalinvesting.jpmorgan.com/contact-us

Impossible to escape

I didn't have high hopes when Nutmeg was purchased by JP Morgan, yet somehow they have managed to still fall short.

Not only have they ruined the intuitive interface of the app, but they have also completely decimated their customer service team, making it impossible to get hold of anyone and very difficult to escape.

I requested to transfer out the last of my remaining accounts well over a month ago but my new provider is still waiting to receive the funds.

Currently waiting around 7 days for each response from JP Morgan it's hard to know exactly what is happening and they aren't exactly apologetic about the delay.

If you're considering opening an account, I'd suggest looking elsewhere unless you plan to stay with this awful company forever!

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear how disappointing this has been — particularly the delays you’ve experienced when trying to transfer out and contact our team.

While I’m unable to identify you or access any account details via Trustpilot, I can comment more generally. ISA transfers can take up to around four weeks in many cases, as they involve coordination between providers and a number of checks, but you should still be kept informed with clearer timeframes and more consistent updates. I’m sorry if that hasn’t been the case and if our communication has added to the frustration.

If you’re in the process of closing your J.P. Morgan Personal Investing account, you may find the information here helpful: https://support.personalinvesting.jpmorgan.com/?article=115000356992-Closing-your-JPMorgan-Personal-Investing-account. As outlined, once a closure request is made, an account may remain visible for a period (and will be fully deactivated no later than 12 months after the request) to allow for any final dividends or interest to be paid in.

If you still need support to complete your transfer or to understand the next steps, please contact our teams using the options (including online routes) here: https://www.personalinvesting.jpmorgan.com/contact-us and you may also find further guidance in our Support Centre: https://support.personalinvesting.jpmorgan.com/

Hello Seb,

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear you were unhappy with the outcome when you temporarily moved to the US.

While I’m unable to identify you or access any account details via Trustpilot, I can clarify the general position. We’re unable to offer investment and wealth management services to clients who are resident in the US (or certain other jurisdictions). As a result, you would typically need to close your account and either withdraw or move your investments to a different provider; otherwise, we may need to begin the process of closing the account.

It’s also worth noting that, where eligible, it may be possible to transfer ISA holdings to another ISA provider to keep them tax-wrapped, and in some cases an in-specie transfer may be available; this means we can transfer your holdings directly, rather than selling investments.

For more information on accounts for non-UK residents and in specie transfers, please see the below web articles:

Very poor LISA transfer experience

Very poor experience transferring my Lifetime ISA away from JP Morgan.

I started the process of transferring my Lifetime ISA away from JP Morgan on 25 April 2026 and was told the transfer could take up to 30 days. The transfer was only completed on 29 June 2026 - around 65 calendar days later.

What made the experience particularly frustrating was the lack of clear communication and ownership from JP Morgan’s transfer team. The receiving provider told me they had sent several chasers to JP Morgan regarding the transfer request but had not received a response. From the customer’s perspective, this left the transfer stuck in limbo, with no meaningful explanation of what was causing the delay or when it would be resolved.

When I contacted JP Morgan for an update, I initially received a generic reply saying they were experiencing delays and that the matter had been raised with their ISA transfers team. That did not answer the key questions: whether JP Morgan had received the transfer request, what was causing the delay, whether they had responded to the receiving provider, or when the transfer would actually be completed.

Eventually, on 11 June, JP Morgan confirmed they had received the transfer-out request and said they expected the transfer to complete within 10 business days. The transfer was ultimately completed on 29 June.

For a regulated investment provider handling something as important as a Lifetime ISA transfer, I expected much better communication, clearer accountability and a proper escalation process when quoted timeframes were missed.

The transfer is now complete, but the overall experience was very disappointing. Based on this process, I would be very reluctant to recommend JP Morgan’s customer service or transfer team.

I’m sorry for the delays you experienced during your Lifetime ISA transfer out, and for the lack of clear communication you describe.
While I’m unable to identify you or access any account details via Trustpilot, I can say that over recent months we experienced higher-than-usual volumes and, on occasion, we were operating outside our usual service levels. LISA transfer is stuck, fees absurd, service dire

I am transferring a LISA out as I have had enough of their mad fees, Nutmeg had a USP, this lot do not, at least in a positive way. I now have an open complaint that has not progressed for over a week which is due to JPM failing to confirm to the new provider that the transfer has completed leaving money uninvested and in limbo. Their fees are excessive in comparison to say Dodl, their service levels are disastrous. Avoid and select a provider that works.

Hello James,

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to read that your experience investing with us has been less positive than we would hope.

On fees, we aim to be clear and upfront about what we charge. There are no set-up, transaction, trading or exit fees. Like other investment managers, J.P. Morgan Personal Investing charges a fee for managing your investments, which is based on a percentage of your portfolio value, and there are also underlying costs. We also work to keep charges transparent, including showing fees paid to date within the dashboard, and we use exchange traded funds (ETFs) as a cost-effective way to provide diversified exposure.

While I’m unable to identify you or access any account details via Trustpilot, I can share that over the last couple of months we’ve experienced much higher-than-usual volumes and, in some cases, we were operating outside our usual service levels, which is not the standard we aim to provide. We always do everything we can to make sure you receive the best possible service; however, we know that sometimes we don’t get things right the first time. As such, we’re always willing to investigate complaints with the aim of finding a suitable resolution to any concerns raised. In line with Financial Ombudsman Service rules, we have up to eight weeks to provide a final response to a complaint.

We hope that your complaint has now been addressed and that your LISA transfer has now completed.

Cannot handle ISA/LISA transfers

I originally used Nutmeg who JP Morgan took over from and have been really dissapointed with the customer service I've received over the past 6 months.

I tried to transfer my LISA from another provider and similar to other negative reviews it seems JP Morgan do not understand the process and are unable to handle these transfers, despite confirming they received my transfer forms after 24 days there was still no progress despite me chasing twice and being told this was "escalated" both times I never had any progress and in the end decided to just cancel this and stay with my current provider.

Now I am having the opposite problem as I'm trying to transfer out my LISA with JP Morgan as I no longer trust them and after 3 weeks my current provider is still waiting for a response from JP Morgan.. I recommend avoiding them if you plan to transfer in and out any ISA accounts...

Hello Scott,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I’m sorry to hear how disappointed you’ve been with the service over the past six months, particularly around the lack of progress and updates when trying to transfer your Lifetime ISA in, and then the continued delays when trying to transfer out.

While I’m unable to identify you or access any account details via Trustpilot, I can address a few of the points you’ve raised. JPMorganChase acquired Nutmeg in 2021 to complement the launch of Chase UK and to offer UK clients banking and investment services under the same wider group, and the move to the J.P. Morgan Personal Investing brand reflects how we present those investment services today. We’re still always aim to do everything we can to make sure you receive the best possible service; however, we know that sometimes we don’t always get things right the first time.

Regarding your transfers, I wanted to highlight that ISA transfers can also be more complex than day-to-day transactions because they involve coordination and checks between multiple providers and can take around 4 weeks in many cases. That said, we recognise how frustrating it is to be told something has been “escalated” without seeing movement or receiving clear updates — and we’re sorry if that’s been your experience.

Hello Charlie,

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear about the technical issues you experienced when trying to withdraw and close your investment account — seeing a 404 error after completing bank verification would understandably feel alarming, especially when it’s happened more than once.

While I’m unable to access any account details via Trustpilot, I can share that bank verification journeys (including those completed via TrueLayer) can occasionally be impacted by a number of factors — for example a temporary website issue, an interrupted session, browser settings (such as cached data or cookies), or connectivity problems. In some cases, the issue may sit with us, your bank, or the third-party verification provider. If this happens again, it may be worth trying a different browser/device, clearing cache and cookies, ensuring pop-ups aren’t blocked, and reattempting the process from a stable connection.

We do hope you were able to complete the verification and withdraw successfully.

Complete lack of understanding from JPM

I tried to set up a new pension on line and deposit a lump sum before the financial year end. JPM managed to duplicate my DDR, which I had to ask my bank to cancel, as JPM were unable to correct it. By this time I had decided to use an alternative provider and not continue with a JPM pension. However, for the next 3 months my JPM account was showing a balance of £20000 plus interest. I tried several times to flag the error but to no avail. I was even advised to start taking the pension or transferring it to another provider. Eventually, I persuaded them to review the deposits and they reversed the payments. I would have appreciated an apology and thanks for giving them their £20k back but I have heard nothing. One star is being generous.

Nothing but frustration

Ever since JP Morgan acquired Nutmeg, the service has gone downhill.

A simple change of banking details takes.... well I don't know how long it takes, because "the team are busy" and can't confirm a timeline. I get promised callbacks by managers that never materialise, and money seems to go into my account but then disappears into thin air.

And before I get the usual spiel in response, yes I've already logged 2 complaints with your team, and no I'm not going to call again to go through the same frustrating experience I went all the previous times with a team that can only "pass on a message" to other teams that actually deal with things.
