Hello David,
We are sorry to hear you are an issue with your order. While some sooting is expected if you are seeing excessive soot there may be a few reasons. First, make sure the logs are properly placed per the log placement chart along with the media in the tray. The installer should have used the entire bag of sand/vermiculite and glowing embers. Second, make sure there is proper gas pressure with the set running. Finally, double check the measurements to make sure the unit is not too large for the fireplace.

We love our Peterson Firelogs
We love our Peterson Firelogs. They are very realistic. Our fireplace was already plumbed for natural gas and installation was very straightforward. We enjoy them so much that there have been times this summer when we turned it on (with the AC running) to eat dinner in front of the fire.
