Petfinder.com is a Ripoff

I would rate petfinder.com 0 stars if I could. I paid $30 to advertise my pup for rehoming. Petfinder.com was awfully quick to take my money, but since then I have heard nothing from them. There was not one inquiry, just total silence. I’ve been trying to contact them for four weeks to cancel my account, but I always get the same message…”There seems to be something wrong on our end. Please try back later.” What a ripoff! Can’t even communicate with this company. Total waste of money!

A sham

A sham. I have applied twice to adopt a dog that needs a home through the Lebanon OH based dachshund rescue. As a veterinarian, I am starting to question this organization. Zero response.

Pet Adoption

After filling out the applications, submitted so many inquiries on pets and sent so many emails, I still receive no response. I have found matches on the website, send inquiries to try to adopt the dog(s) and never hear back from ANYONE! Petfinder is nothing but Scam. It's just a waste of time thinking anyone will reply to your inquiries. It is extremely frustrating. It's probably best to just go to a local shelter.

Not a very good experience …THREE times.,

I was mommy to a beautiful 15 yo girl who passed away Early March. She had a list of health problems..all treatable due to diabetes she was diagnosed with five years before she passed. I spent a small fortune on vet care..she had an internist..ophthalmologist..and allergist all part of a reputable group. I made sure she lived her best life. She was a huge part of our family.

Early June..I decided to look into adoption. Was told about Pet Finder. Found a beautiful girl..who happened to have an eye condition leaving her blind in one eye..My girl lost her sight due to diabetes..so the eye condition was fine. I spoke to my girl’s ophthalmologist and she had a few questions regarding this baby’s treatment. I wrote the group fostering her and got a short letter saying they will answer no questions till an application is filled out..Filled out a long detailed applications..Gave them references and my vets liaison who knows us very well. The liaison assured me.. when they called it would be very apparent the type of pet owner I am. So..I waited and waited…and waited. Did not hear from the group and they never called my vet..or any references. Emailed them and got a form letter back saying if you hear nothing..you are not a good fit for that dog. HUH? They never spoke to me or my vet group. Not a good fit..Based on what?..

So..I moved on. Try number two..Different group, Never heard a word from them either. Tried once more..Strike three. Never heard from that group except to say..They are all volunteers..very busy..and cannot get back to everyone.

I had my girl for 15 years. I am a dedicated..loving..pet owner. My dog lacked for nothing. I realize I am very fortunate and could afford her specialists care. She was a huge part of our family. She was really my ride or die. She had amazing life and I wanted to open my heart and find another dog to share my life with.

Two of the three dogs I inquired about are still on Pet Finder. I have talked to other peopke who have had similar or worse experiences. Are these groups a scam. Is Pet Finder checking these groups references before allowing them to post dogs? These groups ask alot of personal information before they will share any
information about the animal you are interested it. One application asked what hours during * the day would the dog be alone. Not how many hours..but WHAT hours?.. No one’s business.. I wonder if anyone from Pet Finder ever checks into the validity of these rescues? Or asks to approve these applications and types of questions being asked by these groups.

I think i just got scammed

I think i just got scammed. I did the interview giving out all kinds of personal information in hopes of adopting and you dont get any returned calls or emails.
Worst of all it was an interview to a blocked phone number. YIKES…I should know better but I really wanted this dog. If I dont hear anything today I will file a police report. Dog was located in Oakville and it turns out their address is a post office box at a store. Dogs name is “Lincoln”

I went to pick up a male dog I had paid…

I went to pick up a male dog I had paid for after approved, and saw that she was a female in person.
The "brother" I originally wanted was also listed as a male and was named Kyle on the website, but when we saw Kyle in person the name was changed to Kylie.
We opted for another dog for adoption, and all of the names and and pictures online are switched with other members of the same litter, everything is incorrect. Now I don't trust whether or not the microchip number and vaccines are even accurate or were given to this dog. Very sketchy service.
The people at petsmart clearly stated the website ALWAYS does this and that it isn't their fault or problem, and that theyre only responsible for bringing the dogs there... So not f*** cool.
This website is false advertising... the only reason I'm not crazy upset is because the dog was $450 bucks. I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with the one I ended up choosing. Some of the pups appeared to have lots of issues, and when I spoke up about one of the pups ears being pure black black inside and possibly having ear mites, as she had scabs all over her head from itching, the people stated "no it's just dirt." I've worked for a vet for 4 years now and I know a sick dog when I see one... She sold me a food that petsmart had a coupon for, and no one could tell me if the dog was currently eating that specific food, i goy different answers from everyone.
Be careful with their website and never sign any paperwork until you see the pup in person. Schedule a vet visit asap after you get the pup, hopefully if something is wrong within 30 days you can get a refund and return the pup. So glad I got a vet appt 2 days after I adopted my pup. She's already sneezing like crazy and I'm a worried mess. I shouldn't have to go through this.

Petfinder helped us to find a new dog...

Petfinder helped us to find a new companion in just two weeks. We contacted them and the rescue came back to us the day after. The process was smooth, and after all the paperwork and references check, everything went well. He's now part of our family and we are very happy. After reading some negative reviews, I was hesitating, but my experience was more than positive.

Let Me Help...

Since it appears that many people leaving reviews here are computer/internet illiterate, I thought I'd write a "review" to help these people.

Okay. So, you leave an inquiry about a pet that you really, really want and you're so excited because this one pet is absolutely perfect for you, but... You don't hear back. Well, that's very discouraging. The thing is, some shelters don't look at inquiries they receive through Petfinder. That's not their fault nor is it Petfinder's fault. You have to keep in mind that shelters receive numerous inquiries about the pets they have because animals are cute and adorable. You're not the only one who thinks Sasha would be the perfect fit for your family.

I see Petfinder as a way of looking at nearby shelters to see what they have before I go there in person just so I'm not wasting gas/time. Most shelters have their own websites that they include in the description of the pets they have listed on Petfinder. You can still send inquiries through Petfinder, but you can also go to the shelter's website and submit an application. You can absolutely still send an inquiry through Petfinder, but just make sure you also submit an application through a shelter's website (if they have one) so there's a higher chance your request/inquiry will be seen by someone.

pets suffer as a result of petfinders clearing house

several weeks ago, i discovered petfinder, a clearing house for rescue animals, under various private entity names. i have already written about one agency---"4 paws 4 life." in specifically looking for a small, older dog, i encountered about 6 more.

these women representatives do not contact by phone, demand forever long forms including property tax records, drivers license photos, proof of a guardian should the adopter pass away. they seem to be thorough; rather, they are invasive and unnecessary.

the forms are guided by the facilities' own preferences for a animal behavior and life style. this includes my financial commitment to a pet, and how much am i willing to spend on pet emergencies. the fees range up to $800 per rescue animal. these are not akc pets, but rescue animals.

the shelters, nor the women representatives, do not return phone calls, generally. everything is in writing; pay in full up front; a pet can be adopted by another after the original payment in full has been made---but before the pet is picked up---a refund or an exchange pet may be available. there is clear understanding that once the pet leaves the premises, no further expense or responsibility is that of the seller---yet, these same forms demand all sorts of answers re: future financial, personal, and care data.

often, the pets are sold unseen, by vendors who live in other cities---"the back end of the operation," as one girl put it. there is little or no contact between the pet-shelter caregivers, and the sellers.

i found 1 pet pictured on 2 sites. another pet, still available, was removed from my personal search site---i was dropped after being offered the dog as a
possibility.

asking questions of a vendor is a clear signal to drop the potential customer.

these women do not feel explanations are necessary for rejection; the same is the case for an entire pet site. "you are not a fit," is a standard rejection, if at all. one site dropped me because i did not list a guardian for my possible death---i called my neighbors, they said they would, i gave all data; the response was, i was still not a fit. no reason cited.

the women themselves are younger, uppity, rude, and not terribly bright. theyre a type: entitled. this is important, as attitude is in play, throughout. men do not respond like this type of female.

one site offered online meet and greet. i inquired how the aninal would respond online. the reply was that the animals did not matter. others do not have meet and greet at all: no place, the shelter claims.

i have been dropped from several sites, without explanation. challenging the decision, asking why, goes nowhere. the phone numbers generally are not for return calls.

several sites ask for photos of the home's interior, the yard, the fencing. the entire gauge is not about pet suitability, but money.

crates, where the pet sleeps, where the pet stay in the home, are used as weapons re eligibility.

several pets are bonded couples. i purchased 1 dog as an individual, for $695, who came in off a transport from new mexico. when the dog
arrived, he had a partner: surprise. my choice was a refund, or add the other dog for half price. this, after waiting for the pet.

several sites do not list the photos/names, of bonded pets as couples, or explain the circumstances. it either scams pet searchers, or abuses the animals by separating them.

there is no way to reach petfinder. information is often skewed or missing. weights, ages, facts, are not infrequently in error. one girl told me a year old dog was an adult; even the petfinder site explains this discrepancy. lies are standard re: petfinder and its vendors.
wherever i go, i ask about pefinders, and the responses are the same: crooks, scam, waste of time. the advice is to go to publicly/government funded facilities for pet adoption; stay away from online vendors; and to report them at once to the ftc, fbi, bbb, etc. these folks are crooks. petfinder vendors are typical of animal trafficking; petfinder, by not accrediting its vendors, is the same.
i have the names, written applications, responses---if any
---of the individual shelters; the girls' names are on the written correspondences---if any.
because i dealt with several petfinder entities that service the denver/colorado area, all of which were questionable, my concern is with petfinders as a whole. it is not reputable.

it taunts purina, nestles, discovery communications as its ownerships. more's the pity.

this site and its members need to be investigated; the site owners, and the customers of the entities who have been bullied and bamboozled by these women vendors.

I find Petfinders to be a total waste…

I find Petfinders to be a total waste of time and, IMHO, is probably a sham. I cannot tell you how many pets I applied to adopt. None of which, i ever received a reply back from those who supposedly putting the dog up for adoption. And this is not the first time that this has happened. I tried once in 2020, again in 2021, and now in 2022. This is the last time I will ever use them. They are truly a total waste of time. I don't think they screen any of those putting poets up for adoption. They simply take their money for the listing and are done with them.

Are you worthy to own a Pet, not according to Pet Finder

The service has you deal with people who make you fill out a mortgage application of insulting questions to determine your worth. The ridiculous process involved in even getting a response, then learning you were denied because you work ... is ridiculous. This isn't a service, it's a joke. Save yourself the torment of dealing with this garbage and go to a local shelter.

This site is a scam

This site is a scam. You can send all the inquiries you want when you see an animal you wish to adopt. Not only is it questionable if they they convey your interest to the adopting agency, they never respond to your inquiries. However the agencies they work with aren't shy to ask for hundreds if not thousands of dollars to adopt one of their supposedly vulnerable animals. But when and if they ever get back to you the pet you are interested in has been miraculously already adopted even if they have been available for months. This site is a joke as all they do is spam you and never answer you back. Beware!
