Superb support from the staff

Superb support from the staff (the two Jennifers), thorough checks to ensure the adopter is right for the pet and then constant help and support throughout the whole process. Highly recommend using this wonderful charity.

Brilliant charity for Pet Rehoming

Brilliant charity who help people responsibly rehome their pets. I got my dog via them in September and it was a thorough process where I had to create my profile, I was home checked and then had a video call with the owner where we saw the dog and vet records were shared. I would not hesitate to use them again to get another dog, and I recommend to my friends and family.

Do not recommend

We recently listed our beloved dog for adoption through PetRehomer, hoping to find a suitable home nearby so we could still see him occasionally. Initially, the experience was promising. Jenny from the PetRehomer team was quick to respond, list our dog, and discuss our specific requirements. We appreciated that she understood our desire not to rush the process and emphasised that we should only proceed if we felt comfortable with the adopters.
Within just one day, we received an application and were advised to follow their adoption process, which included a home visit and as many meet ups as we felt necessary. This was important to us, not only to ensure the adopters were a good fit for our dog, but also that our dog was a good fit for them.
However, things took a turn when the adopters wanted to take our dog after just one park meetup. We expressed our concerns, especially since my wife hadn’t met them yet and we hadn’t completed a home visit. Despite this, we received a call from Jenny pressuring us to hand over our dog, stating that the home visit was unnecessary, even though it’s listed as a key step on their website. She warned us that the adopters might withdraw if we didn’t comply within a week.
We felt unheard and pressured, especially as we were about to leave for a holiday and had simply asked to wait until our return to finalise the process. The adopters eventually withdrew, and Jenny blamed us for being unable to commit, even though we were just trying to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition for our dog.
In our view, PetRehomer failed to set clear expectations with the adopters and abandoned their own process under the pressure of a paying customer, overlooking the well-being of the dog in the process. If you deeply care about your pet and want to ensure a proper introduction and transition to a new family, we would caution against using PetRehomer. Unfortunately, it seems that when adopters push for a quick handover, your concerns and your pet’s well-being may be overlooked.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

We’re genuinely sorry that you felt disappointed with the outcome, and we do understand that rehoming a much-loved pet can be an emotional and sometimes difficult process.

At PetRehomer, our priority is always the welfare of the pet and ensuring that every adoption takes place safely, responsibly, and in the best interests of both parties. Our process allows and actively encourages owners and adopters to meet several times, both in person and by video meetings, to make sure everyone feels confident about moving forward.

In this case, our Rehoming Coordinator supported open communication between both parties and offered practical solutions — including video calls and additional opportunities to ask questions — to help ensure that all sides were comfortable.

However, some of the requests that emerged — including ongoing visits and overnight stays with yourself — fall outside of our charity’s safeguarding and privacy policy. For this reason, we were unable to facilitate the rehoming once it became clear that these arrangements were being sought.

We did not pressure anyone to proceed; rather, our team provided accurate information about the agreed process and clarified that the adoption could only continue if both parties were comfortable. When the adopter chose to withdraw, we respected that decision and closed the case appropriately.

We appreciate how deeply you care for your dog and wish you both every happiness moving forward. PetRehomer remains committed to providing a professional, ethical, and caring rehoming service that prioritises animal welfare and safety for all involved.

Seemed like a good idea but …

Seemed like a good idea but wouldn't accept my advert as there are some behaviour issues I was upfront about and would expect any rehomer to consider carefully. I realise it's difficult to rehome an occasionally challenging dog (he can resource guard) but their rejection of animals with any behaviour problems is hidden away in the FAQ section of the website - really not obvious unless you hunt for it. Why not just put that on the front page? And they deleted my account without explanation, or rather they messaged me but had already deleted the account so I couldn't access the message, and then completely ignored my email, which is just rude. So after digging through the site, I assume this was the problem.

PetRehomer supports much-loved family pets to move directly into new family homes, helping them avoid the stress of entering a rescue or shelter environment and freeing up vital space for pets who truly need it.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of both pets and adopters, we do have clear criteria and are unable to accept pets with significant behavioural issues that we feel would be too challenging for our typical adopters to manage. This includes behaviours such as biting, serious aggression, or high-level resource guarding.

As a result, we are sometimes unable to list certain pets, and we understand this can be disappointing. While we always aim to help where we can, we recognise that our service may not be the right fit for every situation.
