Piano study for the somewhat advanced

Although it is certainly possible to learn to play the piano by following the beginners lessons, I advise you to learn the technique in the right way at the music school through a music teacher who is present. However, if you're reasonably versed on the instrument, this is a great way to progress. The lessons and exercises are well put together and you can always contact Hayden with questions. Unfortunately, due to my lesser knowledge of English, I could not get all the benefit from the lessons. So in summary if you are English speaking and a somewhat advanced pianist I can highly recommend this training.

Lots of information about extended…

Lots of information about extended chords and I love the jazz standards. Learning a lot about block chord too. I look forward to exploring all aspects of jazz-I have played intermediate classical and read about pop chord progressions. Jazz sounds are challenging and beautiful. Hayden explains material well and plays the jazz stanards well too.

Absolutely excellent

Absolutely excellent. As well as the superb lessons, the interface is also very good and easy to navigate. I especially like the loop feature so you can focus on a specific section, such as a tricky piano run. There are a huge range of lessons, with several different teachers. The sheer number could be a bit overwhelming in terms of where to start, but there is a very useful syllabus section to give you some guidance. Overall very pleased so far and my goal is to complete the 2 beginner jazz modules in 2023.

Best Online Jazz Piano Course

I have tried a number of Jazz Piano Courses and this is the best for learning how to play from a lead sheet. The way to harmonize the melody, using shells, rootless voicings, chord extensions and substitutions. Being aware of the 251 patterns and the idea of thinking creatively about a personal arrangement and building from basic principles.

Impro

my experience mainly concerns courses on improvisation. I remove one star from the maximum because the subtitles are not in French like on you tube

During my learning of the Georgia tune

During my learning of the Georgia tune, I was very impressed that Hayden used the minor cliche in three different positions while teaching the song. Descending line from the Top, Bottom, And middle.
Hayden is not only a great player, but a great teacher. Now when I see a minor cliche in a song, I am no longer intimidated. I have options of which one I would like to use. :-)
I have grown as a musician because of Piano Groove, and Hayden.

Excellent

Excellent — I'm an ABRSM Grade 7 piano player (or at least I was, back in the day) and fancied trying my hand at jazz piano. PianoGroove's courses are so good, as are the downloadable accompanying materials. This is the first time I've tried an online piano course; I like the informality of it and that I can take things at my own pace. Mainly, it's fun.

I thought the course was pretty thin…

I thought the course was pretty thin for the money compared to other similar music classes by top notch musicians. I am a fan of Jon Cleary which is pretty much the reason I purchased the course in the first place. Glad it was on sale for $65.00 which is still more than twice as much as it should be in my opinion.

Great program, comprehensive place to start

Overall, Hayden and co have been responsible for much of my growth as a musician since starting. Hayden has one of the best approaches when explaining concepts and relaying the important info at a good time.
One request I have would be to include more notes about fingering, form, and good practice techniques. I believe I may have picked up some bad habits in my playing. A course that covers good techniques for scales, arps and progressions would be very helpful, as well as more frequent mention of them.
Thanks for all the great content you have made so far.

Excellent Jazz piano site.

Can’t say enough good things about PianoGroove. Best piano site I’ve seen and I’ve belonged to others. All the courses are very structured, there are a lot of them and they keep getting added to. Hayden is an excellent instructor as are the rest of the teachers. Seminars are very informative. You can tell a lot of work and thought went into this teaching method. Forum is very cool as well.

You must purchase this course!!!!

There is no question, this is the best piano course on the Internet. I have spent hundreds of dollars on piano courses and could never seem to find the right one for me. I had almost given up hope until I saw an advertisement for Piano Groove and thought, I will give online learning one more try.
I was just into my first lesson with Hayden when I knew I stumbled upon something special. Hayden is a master pianist and a master teacher. What's unique about piano groove is Hayden's ability to apply the concepts and theory he teaches directly to popular music. This makes it easier to remember and understand. One can take the chord progressions Hayden teaches and apply them directly to the music we love, particularly the jazz standards. After Hayden explains and demonstrates a chord progression, he then takes you directly to a piece of music that was written with the same chord progression. Now the learner has a direct association between those particular chords and a popular song.
Another appealing aspect about Hayden's method of teaching is his voice. He enunciates words beautifully and it is a pleasure to hear him speak. He does not waste words, if he's speaking it's about material you need to know. He is succinct and to the point, he knows exactly what it is we need to know to become great pianists.
I could not be happier with this newfound instructional piano course. It is jam packed with instructional material and it only keeps growing. If you're interested in learning to play piano, you must purchase this course.

Sincerely,
Dr Neil LaHurd DO
