I lost my in person teacher during…

I lost my in person teacher during covid. PianoGroove has helped me continue learning. The lessons, from beginner to advanced are always informative.
My favorite lessons, those that arrange songs, are made much more helpful when they include a transcription provided by the person teaching. For me, memorizing songs reinforces the shape of chords and various ways a song “moves along”.
Most importantly questions are answered promptly.

This should be 6 stars

Honestly, this site has it all. I am (was?) a classical pianist trying for years (without success) to branch out into Jazz. I tried teachers, books. Nothing would work. Everything looked so "random" and impossible to figure out. And then I discovered this site. Its clear, it explains well, it allows to make progress quickly, etc. That combined with Mark Levine's theory book opened a complete new world to me. I couldn't recommend it more.

Topic presentation

Returning to the keyboard (and PianoGroove) after a bit of time away. Some interesting new lessons added - just need to put the time in now. I like how PG offer ways to cover particular issues (Hand Independence in my case) so trusting they can help me sort this out. First couple of sessions look encouraging

I really enjoyed the sus chord lesson…

I really enjoyed the sus chord lesson for Victor Young's “When I Fall in Love”. Lesson breakdown was concise, lesson presentation practical “hands on”, and broken down into bite size bits that made the sus chord concept easy for me to understand. Thanks H!

I found everything I was looking for…

I found everything I was looking for and more at PianoGroove. The Jazz course includes a syslabuses explaining what you can expect to be covered. I found this very helpful since it provided guidance and a sense of knowing when it was time to move on. Unlike watching YouTube videos where you are constantly jumping on to the next hot topic on the next hot channel. The PianoGroove videos focus on specific skill areas to work on and developed. The video interface allows you to pause, rewind, slow down and even loop a difficult section. All the study materials are included in the form of PDF files. There are practice lessons, tips and additional related videos also available. Plus there are Live Seminars again focusing on some specific topic or skill where you can ask the instructor questions directly. Can't make it to a Live Seminar? No problem. They are all recorded. You can choose the ones you are interested in and watch them later. This is a continouly growing library of knowledge at your finger tips. There is also a vibrant fourm with many diverse topics. I can go on and on. I can not recommend PianoGroove enough.

PianoGroove is probably the best…

PianoGroove is probably the best online, self-learning platform for jazz piano in existence. Excellent content. The only downside is that the technology that backs the site doesn’t seem to have been updated in a few years.

The lessons are informative

The lessons are informative, technically easy to access and the program covers all levels and styles of music. Hayden and the other instructors break down each step and I like going back to review previous lessons and webinars.

PianoGroove provides a personalized experience with real humans

After taking a free course (pentatonic scales) and getting a free orientation to the website and all of the resources available, I decided to subscribe to PianoGroove. Upon signing up, I got an email from Hayden Hill offering a 15-minute phone call to talk about my goals. I was able to share my jazz experience (beginner from classically trained pianist) and goals (play in a jazz band). The call was great. Hayden provided some tips and advice which I really appreciated. (First time in a new band will be a very daunting experience - appreciated that candor!). He followed up with a detailed 3-part plan with links to many resources on the website. He also indicated which of these suggestions should be priorities for me given my goals.

I also listened in to a live webinar with Jovino Neto on the minor 251 progression. This seminar changed my orientation to learning harmony. Neto cautioned against being attached to the linear representation of chords and suggested looking at them from the bottom-up, top-down, and sideways. ("Make friends with chords; you should be able to recognize them in the dark.") There are many recorded seminars on a wide variety of topics including how to approach jazz standards. PianoGroove is an online resource, but the difference is that you have a clear sense of the humans (like Hayden and Jovino) behind these resources. That is a unique characteristic in my experience using online resources for piano study.

So far I have had an extremely positive experience with PianoGroove and would highly recommend it to other aspiring jazz pianists.

Well done!

Arrangements are great...beautifully done; instruction is appropriate to the level of experience and concepts explained well. I don't really read music but still benefit immensely from the clarity of instruction.

PianoGroove offerings

PianoGroove has a wide variety of piano styles and vast array of piano offerings that are very well presented. The team that has gathered with Hayden are all outstanding musicians. I particularly like the arrangements that they and Hayden present. Much of what they are teaching is not directed at absolute beginners, but the courses do build from beginner to more advanced arrangements. I also appreciate that Hayden or one of the team will usually respond to questions and requests, so you know someone is paying attention.
