It's been almost 70 days and my €600 deposit still hasn't been refunded.

I've filed a chargeback with the bank and am awaiting a response. If I don't get my deposit back this way, I've contacted the consulate and they've referred me to a lawyer in Thessaloniki. I will initiate legal proceedings. I will pay the €600 to the lawyer if necessary, but I will not let this fraudulent company get away with it.

Every time I asked for my deposit back, I received similar evasive responses to those mentioned in the reviews here. Furthermore, as also mentioned, I was met late at the airport and my calls went unanswered.

This rental experience has been a lesson for me. From now on, I will never rent a car from any company without reading the reviews.

My only frustration was being charged £27 for crossing the boarder into EIRE - seemed unnecessary.

Please don't rent the car with this company this is a fraud company sell you dodgy insurance that third party doesn't accept and they want to sell their insurance and want to keep extra 200€ as a deposit rubbish customer service.

No replies to any contact for assistance regarding CDW insurance sold by them. The company they sold insurance for does not respond and firewalls customers by requiring input of an emailed code. The company : rentalcover.com does not send you a code therefore no access.
Planet do not reply either, 45mins on the phone, 2 requests to email format. Zero contact.
On my experience to date I can only say AVOID DO NOT USE.

Utter scam. Never got our deposit back even though a couple days after drop off they confirmed that everything was returned in order.

We ended up going through our bank to get our deposit back.

The company is now no longer responding to any communications from us, the bank or their mother company..... Terrible.

Avoid this company, they cannot be trusted. When we arrived at the airport, we were told our rental car had been given to someone else, despite having paid in full.

They only offered a partial refund, claiming we were over an hour late for collection. Our flight was delayed by exactly one hour, and we had no way of contacting them while stuck on the runway.

This must happen to lots of people, and it feels like they are profiting from unavoidable flight delays. It ruined our holiday plans.

Do not purchase anything from this company! What appears to be an unbelievably cheap price has a huge catch when you come to pick up the car.
In short you pay planet car rentals their fee to direct you to the car supply company who then charge you whatever they like. Its all a scam, always use an established car rental company

Scam scam scam Avoid this company. My experience was extremely disappointing.

I booked a rental car through this company for a trip to Ireland. During the booking process, I was told which vehicle I would receive or similar and agreed to the quoted price, so I signed the agreement and paid in full.

When I arrived in Ireland, I discovered that Planet Rent a Car was not the actual rental company but a third-party broker. At the rental desk, I was informed that the insurance I had purchased through Planet Rent a Car was not accepted by the rental company, meaning they could not release the vehicle to me. I was also told that the car I had been promised or a similar one wasn’t even part of their fleet.

This left me stranded in Ireland with my children and no vehicle. The only option offered was to book a completely new rental directly with the local company at additional cost.

The staff at the rental desk advised me that I should be entitled to a refund because I had been sold insurance they did not accept and promised a vehicle they did not even have available. However, despite explaining the situation and requesting a refund, Planet Rent a Car refused, stating that I had signed the agreement.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend booking through this company. The information provided at the time of booking did not match what was actually available, and when the problem arose, they refused to take responsibility or issue a refund

Emailed over 1 week a go with an issue as we purchased insurance with additional protection on this car. Got to the rental car company on holiday to be told its not valid or recognised on thier cars and had to pay them for the extra protection.

This broker planet rentalcars offered an extra just to get more money out of us!!
They charged us for an extra that isnt valid.

I've asked for our money back and still have had no communication from them!

Do not use, will not use them again.

We hire a car from Verona and because we got delayed with the airline and passport control we lost our car. Planet rental would not help us at all, all I got from them is sorry yes this is the policy. Terrible service I would never use again

I am writing this review as a warning to others. I booked a car rental in Madeira through Planet Rentalcars for 11th May 2026 under booking reference 71517259 (local supplier: Magic Islands).A deposit of £1,298.85 was taken from my credit card. I returned the vehicle two days early on 16th May 2026. Upon return, I received official, signed paperwork from the supplier confirming that the car was completely undamaged and everything was perfectly okay.It has now been over two months since the car was returned. I have called Planet Rentalcars four separate times to locate my funds. Each time, I have been met with no answers, no explanations, and absolutely no money returned.Withholding a substantial deposit when there is written proof of zero damage is completely unacceptable. Because of this total lack of communication, I am now initiating a formal credit card dispute and chargeback to recover my £1,298.85.Planet Rentalcars support: My booking reference is 71517259. I expect an immediate manager escalation and written confirmation that my refund has been processed.

Booked via app, could choose rental company (Avis in my case at Belfast International) all very clear if you read the small print. £1500 deposit (against credit card) on a 2 day small car rental which I think is steep, they didn’t actually put a hold on any funds.
The insurance with planet cars although comprehensive was a situation where you may have to pay upfront for an accident and claim back - (said Avis) whereas if you purchased from Avis direct at a cost of roughly an extra £80 per day then they cover the costs entirely no messing around claiming money back etc. so I went with planet cars own. I booked a Corsa ended up with Seat Arona. V pleased. Collection and drop off a dream. Insurance element could be more upfront on website some folks could miss it. Overall no problems and would book again for definite. 2.5 days hire with planets top insurance £82.

WARNING - Do not book.
Terrible company. Had so much trouble over last 4 months after I booked. Wasted so much of my time. Ended up with them cancelling as they said car was not available. Customer services will put the phone down on you. Do not believe anything they tell you. Your car may not be there when you go to pick it up. They are scammers!

Be aware of this company.

I purchased the additional insurance directly through their website, but when I arrived to collect the car, I was told it was not valid and had to pay for another insurance policy. This completely defeated the purpose of purchasing the extra cover in advance.

I informed them about the issue immediately after the rental, but they showed no willingness to resolve it or take responsibility.

The whole experience was misleading and extremely disappointing. If you book with this company, make sure you clearly understand what insurance will actually be accepted at the rental desk, otherwise you may end up paying twice, just as I did.
