Avoid Plastk!!

Avoid Plastk!!! This company is shady. I cancelled my account because I didnt need the card anymore. They asked me to wait 60 days before they refund my security deposit. It is now 6 months since I cancelled my card - My money has still not been returned, I have contacted them several times and they just keep making excuses (the usual 'I have sent your request to management' excuse). I can see from other online reviews that I am not the only one who has had issues getting their money back.

Still waiting for my security funds

I cancelled my card before I got it because it was taking too long. I paid the 54$ or whatever to clear the annual fee. Now I’m just waiting for my $2000 security funds.

They said 10-15 Business days, it’s now been 19 business days and I just keep getting responses like, “yeah, there’s been a refund issued”, “I’ll deal with the refund personally” and all these other backhanded responses.

Im just hoping i get the money back because I’m going away on vacation soon and was planning on using that money on my “Plastk credit card” …

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! BIG SCAM!!

The fact this company is on credit karma being promoted to help "build credit" makes me lose trust with Credit Karma as well. Sent in $500 only to be given the "there is delays" and seeing from past reviews, they are forever dealing with delays. Avoid this company and it sucks that I might lose out on $500 but I will not take that chance to use them!! RUN!! Look they will respond to this email with their apologies and the same old it will be sent in 10-15 days. Its been over 30 days!!!

DO NOT open an account with these guys or send money! There are spelling errors all over their emails, & responses which leads me to believe it’s a foreign scam, not Canadian. Go with capital one instead. They took my money 3 weeks ago, charged me fees and still DONT have a card. They’re crooks. I cancelled my account as they said they’re having trouble manufacturing my card (scam) they then said I have to pay a $50 fee before I get my security funds back even though I still HAVE NO CARD! Total scam. I’m calling better business bureau. Don’t go with these crooks!!! These guys are NOT accredited with the BBB (better business bureau) so the credit reporting agencies like Equifax & Transunion don’t recognize them as a legitimate company. So if you’re trying to rebuild your credit that won’t happen with these crooks as they can’t report your credit. On the BBB website they have at least 50 bad reviews. Go with a legitimate company like capital one. I don’t know how these guys slipped through the government of Canada’s fingers.

Still waiting for my card...

I haven't received my card in over three weeks. The customer support person just informed me that I shouldn't expect my card for another two weeks! This all sounds too shady. Had I known it was going to be a struggle even to get a card issued, I would never have given them my money. Beware.

We're truly sorry for the delay in the shipping of your card. Our usual timeline for receiving your card is 10-15 business days after your security funds has been verified. We experienced a minor process issue with the card order from our manufacturer which caused this delay impacting a number of our new customers. However, this is no longer the case.

This is not our usual onboarding process and certainly not the experience we wish for any of our customers. Your card is already shipped to the address on your application and you should receive it soon to enjoy all the perks and value with the Plastk card.

Our cards take 10-15 business days to be received. If in any event, the card is not received within that time frame, reaching out to our customer support via online chat or email at hello@plastk.ca is the easiest and fastest way to get further assistance.

Please let us know if your card has still not been received within the timeframe and we work on finding a solution together. Thank you for choosing Plastk!

It feels like a scam

I was told by Plastk that I would receive a refund of my funds on June 15th, and I still have not received them. I have been in constant contact, and every single person I've spoken to has told me the same thing - they sent a follow up to the people who handle money, they expect the refund to be posted soon. When I ask to speak to someone else who might know what's going on, I'm ignored.

It has been 3 weeks since I was told I would get my refund. That's too long to be waiting without any information. Give me my money back.

It took forever for them to create my account and for me to be verified by Equifax. After a few days of waiting I decided to see if I could cancel and receive my funds back. Imagine my surprise when I found out I had been charged fees over $50 before I even had an account fully set up. I was told that in order to receive my deposit back, I would have to pay the fees. This didn't sit well with me, and made the experience feel like a scam. You're not giving me credit, so why are you charging me credit fees on my own money? Bizarre.

I sent another email requesting to cancel my account and receive my funds back as well as asking how I am supposed to pay this fee before I get my funds since there is nowhere to do this on the website. I got a response from someone telling me I may as well try their services since I already sent them the money. I once again replied asking the same question for the second time, and received a canned response that didn't include what I asked for. I have since sent an email asking for the information a third time, and no response as of yet.

I’m quite unhappy that I’ve been charged annual and monthly fees before I’ve even received a card or had an account fully set up, and that the security funds I deposited don’t cover that fee. There is also a long waiting period for everything to go through, and for folks who may not have the financial resources to wait 10 plus days that can be very difficult. I don’t think this is a great way to establish trust and gain long-term relationships with clients as it does make the whole experience feel like a scam.

We're sorry to know our service did not work out for you. We do value our customer feedback and as a growing company, are constantly working hard to streamline our processes to provide a seamless user experience.

By signing up and sending your security deposit, you agreed to the Plastk card holder disclosure agreement that contains all the applicable fees. The first annual and monthly fees appear on your first statement and this is because, by sending your security deposit, you provided your consent for your account to be created by the issuing bank and your car d to be process. As such, the first monthly and annual fees are charged at this point.

Once your full security funds are received, the fees are auto-charged by the bank and at this point we are unable to reverse the account creation and card order. Hence the fees charged are non refundable.

In the said email, you were provided with two options. The first to pay the applied fees ($54=$6 monthly fee+$48 annual fee) to receive your security funds in 10-15 business days or wait 60 days to receive the remaining. The reasons were all provided in the disclosure sent in the email.

The Plastk card is not a pre-paid card but a secured Visa credit card with features just like any other Visa credit card. The only difference is that you put down a security deposit for the credit provided instead of a credit check. The deposit is your money, but not yours to spend once sent as a deposit for credit. It acts as a collateral while you utilize the provided credit responsibly to build your credit as we report all your credit behavior to Equifax. Should you not demonstrate good credit behavior, the deposit is used to pay off the balance on the card, closed and reported to Equifax.

Plastk is a legitimate secured credit card company with a mandate to help Canadians build or re-build their credit. These guys are Slime Bags! They refuse to refund your deposit, the so-called customer service is a joke, and I've basically been threatened with ridiculous fees, and even a strike on my credit for cancelling.
Haven't even received the card or filled out a complete application... because their site never works proper.
Very slimy and dishonest!

Thank you for your feedback and sorry to know you feel this way about our product and services.

Please note that during the application process, you were provided with Plastk's card holder disclosure agreement to which you agreed before submitting an application. By submitting your application and sending your security deposit, you provided us your consent to go ahead and create your account profile with our issuing bank and also, go ahead and process your card. As such, once we receive your security funds the applicable fees were auto- charged per your consent and this appears on your first statement.

These fees are non re-fundable as they accommodate the cost of creating your account profile and ordering your card in the issuing bank's system, while maintaining your account.

In reference to the email you had received from management earlier, an account is open once you send your full security deposit and not after you activate your card and as this is a credit trade, we report all opened and closed accounts to Equifax as required. Our cancellation policy requires that we disclose this to our customers to help them make informed decisions and it is not intended to threaten you.

To help resolve your issue faced on the website, in relation to verifying your identity which is a required step to allow you activate your card and use it once received, we had offered to assist you with the process, but you refused and we respect that. However, as customers are still responsible for paying fees and maintaining their account in good standing once the account is created, the fees were not waived as you had requested.

While we understand that you are not happy with this situation and would want a full refund, we proceeded to charge the fees based on your agreement and consent and this explains why you bear the responsibility thereof. Your account was cancelled as you have requested and your remaining security funds will be sent via interac e-transfer to your email associated with your Plastk account.

If less than one was an option that…

If less than one was an option that would be more realistic. Charged my account 3 annual fees and 3 overdrafts fees (over $200+) on my last statement. Have been 2 weeks in communication with them with no resolve and they continue to charge me interest on their fraudulent fees….

The double fees were triggered by a systemic error acknowledged and as a result a credit back was requested for approval, which is approved as of May 4.

We take our customer feedback very seriously and are constantly working to improve our processes for faster and seamless customer experiences. Our credit back approvals are now within 3 business days.

Not easy to proceed with PLASTK

Not easy to proceed with PLASTK. They more focusing to make more money for themselves. Non stop keep asking different verifications to get Secured credit card. Very complicated.

Thank you for your review. While we do understand that there is an in depth procedure when completing the application process, this is for the benefit of our customers.

The whole process of requesting pictures of your ID, a utility bill and a selfie is all part of the fraud prevention and customer security measures we have in place to ensure that we are protecting the identity of our customers.

The purpose of the selfie is to ensure that the ID images that we have received are indeed of the person sending the selfie (odds are, if we have a selfie that matches the image on the ID we are indeed working with the individual who is actually applying for/using our Plastk Card). If you were to open a bank account, for example, you would need to initially go in branch to do so, once they have verified your identity you are then able to open other lines and trades with ease. With Plastk, because we are virtual and not a bank, we have no way of verifying your identity in person. This is why we request a piece of ID and a selfie.

Sending in the documents previously mentioned is only required when you are not able to verify with Equifax after 3 attempts.

I hope this helps with understanding our processes and procedures!

Comes across as a scam

I'm updating my review of plastk financial. My previous review of them was poor and if I could strip them of their very last star I would.
I decided to cancel my account, and what a debaucle it has been.
These people have awful customer service and it is difficult to even get someone on the phone. Poorly trained with even worse manners.
I could go on but I don't think these scum are worth writing about at length.

I sent my security deposit over 5 weeks…

I sent my security deposit over 5 weeks ago and still no card. When I ask customer service when it will be sent all I get is it will take 10-15 business days after the security deposit is verified….: it’s been 5 weeks since the funds were sent !!!! At this point I would rather have my deposit refunded as I have lost all trust in this company before I even got started. Extremely disappointed to say the very least.

Not a Great start since applying

Not the best experience to start.

I was recommended this card thanks to a Google search:

The 16 best credit cards to rebuild your credit in Canada (the first option should be a hardbacon site. Check there first, before proceeding)

The application was easy, then all the problems started. The website is flawed to a degree, even if you send all photos and all information is filled out the site still says "Error. Please fill in all fields"

I had to go through Customer Service chat to get verified. Admittedly Customer Service is pretty good and they were able to help me.

Back to the site though. Even after being verified the site still said I was unverified, even after signing out and back in again. I was told I have to wait. Once I receive the card (10-15 business days) everything will be applied.

It's funny how these Credit companies work. They have no problem accepting an etransfer (done and confirmed within 2 minutes) However once they have a security deposit it is nothing but waiting, and waiting and not being verified.

Here's what they do not tell you when you are signing up:

It is best to take pictures of your ID and necessary documents and upload them through the Customer Service chat and let them verify you from their end.

You have to receive the PIN code in a few business days

You receive the actual card within 10-15 business days

Equifax CANNOT verify you at all through the site.

They ONLY send credit files to just Equifax, NOT TransUnion.

Do your preperation from the site I listed above. I really hope this works. A silver lining is the fact that the security deposit IS REFUNDABLE. However, it will probably have to be sent by cheque and it will probably take 8-10 weeks.

So if you are wanting to rebuild your credit, like me. Choose carefully.

It’s a great product, but….

It’s a great product, the issue is all the steps aren’t very clear, and every time you complete one you’re not really told what to do next. The customer service reps I spoke to felt like they understood the inefficiency of the signup process and tried to catch the errors (the UX is awful) my main issue is, the card still isn’t here, it should be sent priority, if not overnight. If there’s one thing in the world you should NEVER have to wait for, it’s your money.

You guys are a scam

You guys are a scam! Take my money and not wanting to refund the security deposit because I now live in quebec.
I never got the chance to pursue my profil after send the money through e-transfer. I blocked beause of the adress i have. After 10 days, i called back because the 1rst person told me i would actually get my refund you are now telling me to pay 60$ for annual fees to get my 300$. Its abusing of people who are struggling financially. Im going to report to police because my bank think its a fraud and the encourage me to do so.
