I can’t recommend Eddie and his product highly enough. During my front garden project, my previous builder did a very poor job of the steps leading to my front door and I decided to get a second opinion. I’m so glad I did as Eddie was exceptional from the very start, offering great advice and a workable solution.

The Portland stone is a beautiful colour… I didn’t want anything too sandy in tone or anything that would look yellowish when wet. I’ve found Portland stone to be a lovely pale beige/grey colour and was exactly what I was looking for.

Eddie fitted the steps himself and did a phenomenal job! They look perfect and hands down get the most compliments from people passing by. It was probably the biggest material investment of the project, but I’m so glad I didn’t scrimp on a cheaper alternative as I’m sure these beautiful steps will delight for decades to come.

I can recommend without hesitation.

A great experience overall. Eddie is professional, friendly and very competitive. I would highly recommend him to any prospective customer. The steps he installed in our building are fabulous and exactly what we wanted. Could not have asked for better.

Ours was a relatively small job involving the installation of Portland stone coping around the perimeter of a lightwell. All I can say is that Eddie made a superb job of it, charged a very fair price, and was a total delight to deal with. All in all, I have no hesitation in recommending his company.

Eddie has just supplied some Portland Stone Steps cut to size for our 5-step front door flight, front approach and landing and I can’t recommend him highly enough. He attended site within 24 hours, checked the measurements, advised the builder, and went to fetch the stones himself to make sure they were OK before delivering them personally to site. The stones arrived within a just a few days of order. They look great. Really pleased. Total professionalism. Don’t go anywhere else for your Portland Stone steps.

Eddie of Portland Stone Steps fitted two bull-nosed front steps for me today. The steps look amazing, the stone was very good quality and Eddie did an excellent job of removing the old steps and fitting the new ones. The finish is really good.

Before doing the job, Eddie kept me really well informed of progress with order, letting me know when the stone had arrived and when he could come and do the work. Eddie is very professional in the way he communicates with clients. A real pleasure to do business with.

Excellent quality Portland Stone at a reasonable price, dealt with by Eddie in an efficient, no-fuss, trustworthy manner. This was a relatively small order of coping stone for a residential balcony, but nevertheless was given a level of attention worthy of a much larger project and the results are consequently impressive. Portland Stone Steps Ltd, aka Eddie Best, provides an impressive quality Stone-masonry fitting service.

Eddie impresses on many different levels from his initial contact to provide the quotation all the way through to leaving site.

The first thing that impressed me was that Eddie turned up to give a quotation in a clean tidy unmarked custom liveried flatbed lorry. To me, that demonstrated professionalism, as so many building contractors turn up in battered old vehicles that look ready for the scrap heap. If a contractor is going to look after their vehicle and keep it clean and tidy then that indicates more care will be taken with the project in hand.

The second thing that impressed me was that throughout the project, Eddie kept his word with everything he said he would do. I got status update phone calls and emails when they had been promised. At no time did I feel that I needed to chase Eddie for anything. Eddie’s word truly is his bond.

The third thing that impressed me was the attention to detail. During the site visit to discuss works to be performed. Eddie made some very helpful design suggestions. He was clearly more focused on what the finished project would look like than what was necessarily the easiest installation process for him to perform. So many other contractors will walk away leaving a ‘dogs dinner’ behind just because it is easier for them to install and they don’t have to live with it themselves.

OK, Portland Stone is not cheap and Eddie’s quote was not the cheapest, but for me given the amount I was spending, trust was more important. For information, all the quotes I received were within a price range of £9,300 to £9,900 of which nearly £7,000 was the cost of the stone.

I would recommend ‘Portland Stone Steps Ltd’ to anyone.
