Outstanding Programming, Inconsistent Delivery
After having completed just under a year with PA split between the HAMR and Jacked Street Programs, I can say from my own experience that it is great programming that will deliver great results. I joined PA after listening to the PA podcast and getting the sense that JW's training philosophy was well informed and effective. That has been validated time and time again as I learn more about training and find that principles and techniques that are new to me have already been incorporated in PA programs. I have maintained strength and lean muscle while significantly improving my work capacity and dropping my body fat percentage from 16 to 12. With that said, workout and exercise instructions, descriptions, and demonstration videos are inconsistent in terms of quality. The Masters of Movement videos PA puts out are great and should be the standard for every exercise in the program, but for some movements you get an un-narrated short clip with no explanation of cues, intended focus areas, etc or nothing at all. The workout leaderboard is a daily comedy show with outliers at the top putting up CF Games level "scores", especially when there is no clear explanation of how a workout should be scored in the workout or exercise descriptions. Worrying about what other people are doing isn't a path to success, but the wild variation in scores does make it harder than it should be to set target goals for AMRAP's or figure out what weight to jump in at for an unfamiliar exercise based on relative position on the leaderboard. The quality of written instructions varies from week to week, with some weeks giving great explanation to purpose of each workout and movement, and some weeks being more platitude heavy. The PA team is very active in the discussion board, which helps with some of these issues for questions that have already been asked but not if the question comes up during a workout. In total, I would recommend PA to anyone looking for well-informed, thoughtful programming that delivers results and I look forward to another year of training with PA.
Needs endurance component for HAMR
Love the program but for an active duty light infantrymen the program lacks a periodized endurance component ie long runs or footmarches. That is my only improve. I absolutely love all other aspects and can’t wait to share it with my next unit.
JWOD coming in hot
I currently follow Johnnie Wod and love this program. Several friends and I do the SWOD and DWOD together and text each other our weights and times. For the garage gym athlete, it’s the perfect program. While I’ve never written a program for the masses, I would love to see John add some more old school CFFB movements back in like: gassers, ~200m Sprints in the DWOD, burpees and burpee pull-ups, heavy med ball slams, barbell push presses, barbell complexes (clean + push press etc), and maybe add in some more DWOD schemes that include EMOM style or mimic the Chief (ie., work for XX rest for XX, repeat XX times). The DWODs are great, but it does feel sometimes we are repeating similar movements/schemes quite a bit. That is my only critique. Still, thank you for this program John.
Effective training produces stellar results!
I've been following your awesome training over the past 3+ years. You've helped me grow physically (+25lb of needed muscle) and mentally stronger. I've gotten seriously stronger as I creep closer to 40 years of age. I've steered countless lost souls (including family members) to your content in the past few years and will continue to do so in the future. You put out some excellent programming across lots of skill levels that are truly effective at meeting the intended goals. I love the companion podcast that discusses your training philosophy and helps explain the 'why' behind your training methods.
Don’t be a B*tch, join power athlete
John and the PA crew are fu*kin awesome. They have been building stellar programs for years. I recently jumped on jacked street, after only a few months I need to carry a fire extinguisher with me so my legs don’t rub in my jeans, creating a grass fire, s**t is nuts. But for real, great programing that focuses on tested methods that work. If you wanna get jacked, it’s time to move to Jacked Street!!
I’ve been listening to the power athlete…
I’ve been listening to the power athlete radio since the beginning but didn’t jump into the TrainHeroic app until 2020. Since then it has changed my athleticism to another level. The last phase of jacked street took my physique and performance to the best it’s ever been. I’m an amateur martial artist in karate, boxing and BJJ with 15 years of training. I’m in my mid thirties and this programming has been huge for keeping me injury free and able to train at the highest levels. Thanks to John and the crew at power athlete for all you do!
Old man strength!!!
Started with power athlete as a 45yo recovering distance runner with arthritis and it has been all that and a bag of chips. Still hitting lifetime PRs after 50 as a grandpa. If you are like me and wonder if it’s too late to get really strong, stop wondering and start moving the dirt. Can’t give 10 stars so I’ll give them 5. Thanks power athlete!!
The proof is in the results
My son and I have been following the power athlete bedrock and field strong programs for about 3 years. He was a 6'1 190 lbs freshman
football player. He just finished his junior football season at
6'2 265lbs. The results of the
bedrock and field strong
program are in my son’s hudl film.
John, Tex and the Power Athlete Team know what they are talking about. No nonsense…no complication…..just results.
Power Athlete keeps improving me
I have been using Power Athlete Field Strong for four years now. Last month I was able to take home second place in the Worlds competition of the Firefighter Challenge in the Over 40 age bracket. Thanks to the programming I have improved every year in the Challenge and hope next year to win it. I recommend Power Athlete to everyone who asks.
Best in class
Powerathlete has been a mainstay in my human performance content and training since 2017. They programming, content, and education provided is second to none.
Grindstone plus Keto for the win
I’ve used power athlete training on and off over the past 10 years starting with CrossFit football and currently grindstone. As a dad of three all in sports and running a business grindstone is the best way to be a badass with time constraints. Currently paring with Keto protocol. Highly recommend.
Great programming used for over 10…
Great programming used for over 10 years over multiple periods of my life. Started with the free CrossFit football then went to Field strong. When I had my kids I used grindstone which I also used when I got into bjj that paired great, I've used jacked street to get holiday ready and hamr to prep for a running challenge. For the list year a regular j wod user give
Improved Athletic Performance!
I started power lifting 25 years ago when I played rugby and loved it but I did not have a lot of coaching and I simply made it up as I went. Eventually I moved into more endurance and adventure sports with work, travel and a family but I always missed lifting “heavy”.
Three years ago my daughter blew out her knee and the physio and I talked about getting her stronger but also about some of my aches and pains and he pointed me to PAHQ. At 54 I am not setting the world on fire but I and definitely stronger and move through the “planes of motion” much better then I have in a long long time. In addition my skiing, mountain biking and hauling tree stands deeper into the woods has all benefited. I eventually hit the PAHQ leaning protocol and found I ate more, had better energy and still stripped away some fat.
A bonus for my inner nerd is that the PAHQ team explains the biomechanics behind the programs and they are constantly updating the community on interesting research.
If you are looking to improve your atheism I highly recommend you look at the PAHQ programming. I have found it to be both comprehensive and highly effective.
Power Athlete Post Injury
13 months ago I herniated two discs in my lower back. I couldn’t walk for two weeks and couldn’t walk normal for another two weeks. Once I could move on my own again I started with Power Athletes Bedrock Program at about 10% of my previous 1RM. I worked my way back up paying more attention than ever to the coaching cues John and Tex use for the demos. Life got hectic and I switched to Grindstone and kept moving the dirt a little at a time. Few months ago I switched to their flagship program Field Strong. Today I hit a 15lb lifetime PR on the squat. Their programs work! It’s cutting edge. I’m stronger, faster, and more resilient than I ever have been before!
10 years
Power Athlete is the best combination of programming, knowledge, and motivation. This is my 10th year following their leadership and they better stick around for another 10.
Best Programm in Town
Great and effective training program - on it since 2017.
I absolutely love this program
I absolutely love this program. I’ve switched to several others just for sake of open mindedness. Nothing compared and I’ve made insane gains in the several years I’ve been using power athlete.
The best Strength and Conditioning-ing-ing out there
No bullsh!t, no gimmicks. Power athlete is what every exercise program should be. As a business owner and father, my gym time is limited. Grindstone has saved my ass and kept my body ready for savagery as I get older. Layer on the bonus of the FREE podcast and and these guys will keep you steaming through life.

Most important.....RESULTS!!!
I’ve done several professional training…
I’ve done several professional training programs since starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2007 and have never had results like I do now after doing power athlete HAMR since December 2021.
I only wish I could have found it sooner. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been and fast. Do it! You won’t regret it.
