A knowledgeable and helpful person on the phone who took the time to sort everything out for me
Avoid Principal Insurance – £174.98 fee just to cancel a policy!
I strongly advise against using Principal Insurance. This company uses predatory financial practices against its customers. After selling my motorcycle and needing to cancel my policy, I was hit with an absurd cancellation fee of £174.98!
This isn't just a standard admin fee – it's blatant exploitation through hidden costs like "commission clawback" and non-refundable add-ons that are not clearly communicated at the point of sale. Despite me having 3 years of No Claims Bonus (NCB), the broker showed zero flexibility. Instead of a fair pro-rata refund for the unused period, I was punished with a massive bill just to close my account.
If you value your money and want a transparent insurer, stay far away from Principal Insurance. Their business model seems to rely on extracting huge sums from customers the moment they need to end the contract. Never again!
Bait and switch
Bait and switch - they bait you with a cheap price then ask lots of non standard questions that put the price up. I was quoted 950 then it went up to 1600
Avoid this company at all costs
I was quoted £623.03 online, only to be told at the payment stage that I had to call to complete the transaction. Once on the phone, the premium was suddenly increased to £973.90 — an outrageous and unjustified jump.
This feels like a classic bait-and-switch tactic. The online quote appears to mean nothing, and the entire process was a complete waste of time. I would strongly advise others to steer clear.

Avoid - super high broker fees apply!
Dreadful customer service and excessive admin fees means this is an insurer to avoid.
I tired to make a simple address change on my motorcycle insurance and even though the insurer would make the change at zero additional cost to me, Principal Insurance charge a broker fee of over £60.
I went online and saw other deals for insuring via a different provider that were over £250 less than what I’d paid via Principal so I asked to cancel the policy and was advised a cancellation fee of £250 would apply! Shocking!
On a point of principle I cancelled the policy and I have now moved to Hastings who only charge £20 for simple address changes and won’t charge excessive cancellation fees either.
Principal are a joke. Every time I call them I’m on hold for over 10 minutes. It’s ridiculous service.
Bikers - avoid this company for your motorcycle insurance!
Great service from Jamie.
Good contact via phone, good service.
The wait to be answered was quite short, there were only a few options so the process was easy.
Jamie Ashton was very good. He sorted out the changes to my 2 motorbike policies and it didn't take long at all.
While motorcycle insurance can be expensive, I think I got a good deal.
Excellent service
Excellent service. Jamie Ashton was very helpful and dealt with all of my needs. Everything was made very clear and would recommend them to anyone else

Some of their phone numbers just don't seem to get answered, Surprising for sales etc so I hope I never have to claim!!! However their customer service number was better and got answered so I was able to do what I needed and Taheer was very helpful
Avoid these crooks
Avoid this company! Confusing distribution chain allows Principal to avoid responsibility for customer outcomes.
Been a customer for a few years. Policy auto renewed a few times. Sold my vehicle and contacted them to cancel the policy. Have been told I need to pay £205 to cancel the policy. If I don’t want to pay that I must continue to pay a direct debit to insure a van I no longer own. Despite identifying myself as a vulnerable customer I was threatened with debt collectors when I challenged. Absolute crooks.

The easiest policy change i have ever done . Liz was extremely easy to deal with and explained everything quickly and simply.
Straight forward
The phone call was answered quickly and the whole process of moving insurance from one bike to another problem free. Liz handled the process professionally and explained everything fully. If only other insurers worked this well.
Very bad experience
Very bad experience , 100/100 to avoid , I purchased a policy from them through go compare , after 20 min I haven’t received anything from them on my email ( welcome pack) called customer service asking abt my certificate over the phone a lady she said u need to provide a list of documents obviously I was gonna do it later but I asked for my certificate she said we won’t be sending u anything !!! Its ok I said I don’t want this policy can I get my deposit back it was only 20 minutes since I paid online I was shocked how the lady was trying to convince me me to pay another 55£ cancellation fees I said listen it was only 20 minutes and I don’t have any insurance documents from you , they end up happy taking my deposit and cancel the policy that run for 25 minutes, very bad experience felt I was scammed on a modern way , anyone plz avoid those scammers ( all other insurance have a 14 days colling off period)

The quote shown on Confused (£930) was not available.
I was forced to call to complete the purchase, spent time on the phone, provided full personal and sensitive information, only to be told the real price is £1700.
This is misleading pricing and feels like a classic bait-and-switch tactic.
If a price cannot be honoured, it should not be advertised on a comparison site.
Complete waste of time and data. I would strongly advise others to avoid this insurer
