Hello, my email proton is not connecting well and is not available to send emails. I am paying for email, but it's not working. What happened? Or are you charging money for bad service?
It's just a confusing mess.
I tried to unsubscribe via the link in the email. Took me to a page demanding I create a Proton email... why?
Got an email with a long list of confusing options which I didn't understand because I didn't have any idea what they were referring to and seemed irrelevant to my issue.
Edit: response to Proton

Edit 24/8/25: still getting junk mail. Haven't heard anything more from Proton...3 weeks now. Disgraceful

I paid For Proton mail, drive, VPN etc. and I’ve been using them since around November 2024. I found it quite useful and I thought that I could trust this company. I never thought that they would stop me from accessing my own pictures and documents.
I started using Proton’s bridge to send emails to my clients, I never sent more than 30 emails in a day and then one day I was barred from accessing my account. After 3 weeks of back and forth with their employees (Could have been AI) and giving them everything they asked for they decided to keep me locked out of my account and keep all of my data. I have many family pictures uploaded to this site which are now—for some reason—the property of Proton Mail.
I think that it’s good to have a VPN and a secure email but when it comes to storage, it’s best to keep your private data on an external hard drive with a backup. There are other secure VPNs and email services that you can use so please make sure you don’t keep any personal documents or family pictures with Proton. They seem to be allowed to take it from you. It remains to be seen if they debit my account this month. I suspect they will. I’ll most likely have to just through hoops to get that taken care of too.
DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE.

I have a request number: Request 3826297

I have no Idea how to reply to the below message but I just receive confirmation that my data will be deleted today. Thanks a million Proton, You screwed my out of many years of personal pictures.

Really bad one.
I created an account on LinkedIn and I was waiting for a verification code.
And it's never come!!!
So disappointing

I tried this secure mailing company, I signed up the free one and tried to sign up on the other account using this email.. I didn't get the code after resending it a few times.

My account got deleted because apparently I didn't log in for longer than 1 year. Even though I was logged in in the app all the time. I had to change everything to a different email adress and everything I had connected to that email is lost. Also custumer service is just terrible. Takes days to get response. I will NEVER ever have a proton mail account again.

Beware. Don't use this email service if you're expecting important emails (such as rock concert tickets) Decided to create an email account for me and the wife. Everything went well a few days then those accounts got flagged due to their supposedly abbuse system (as I had opened more than one account..) Who doesn't have more than one email account nowadays.. jeez. Unreliable and 0 option to regain access to the email. Stay AWAY!

I spent an entire day trying to migrate my email from Outlook to my Proton account, without any results. I only received invitations to make additional payments. After that, it still didn't work. Even new emails were no longer visible in Outlook or Proton. I also paid extra for a VPN, which turned out to be unnecessary. In short, I'm completely done with it. I want my money back. I've already deleted the apps.

I've been using proton for years. I started with the free service, and then got a low end paid account. After some time I upgraded to a better one because the extra features are more than worth it.
Aside from all the other Proton products (well worth your time), the security focus, and technical knowhow in their company, the email service is great for organization. I can set all kinds of filters and labels so I can quickly and easily organize my email. I first was introduced to their Alias emails through this, which led to using their now linked services with Simplelogin (also well worth your time). The match is perfect for organizing your inbox to prevent clutter, and taking control of your online footprint and identity.
Their service works well on Mac, Windows, and Linux -- all three have native programs for their web mail.

I'm absolutely SICK TO DEATH of this HORRENDOUS service!!!!!
After they updated their software, there was an terrible issue, which lasted for about 6 damn months, where you had to wait for about 30-40 seconds for the login to complete after you'd entered your details, it took FOREVER - EVERY SINGLE TIME - FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS - JUST TO LOGIN!!!!!
Thankfully that was finally fixed about a month or so ago and now login is fixed, but over the past 2 or 3 weeks ANOTHER, HORRENDOUS issue has popped up and it's just as bad or in fact WORSE than the previous one - every time I login - my email fails to load and says "OOPS SOMETHINGS GONE WRONG" and just gives you a blank screen.
This happens VERY OFTEN - out of 10 login attempts - it at least 8 or 9 times.... so at least 80-90% of all your logins FAIL with this HORRENDOUS BUG!!!
The only way to resolve the issue is to close down your browser, delete all cookies and restart and try again - sometimes I have to do this three to six times until I can get in to my email - it's absolutely UNBEARABLE and a SERIOUS PITA.
ANOTHER ISSUE that I've been putting up with for about 3 months is that the icons/symbols for the mail buttons DO NOT SHOW (the delete, forward, reply, move etc - basically ALL FUNCTIONAL BUTTONS) ARE INVISIBLE - so you have to GUESS which button you want to press and hover over it with the mouse until the description apears so you know if you are about to press the correct button or not!!!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with my browser because the mail service actually works as normal on random occasions, but the vast majority of the time (80-90%) is a COMPLETE MESS!!!
I AM CURRENTLY TRYINGTO LOGIN TO MY EMAIL RIGHT NOW, IT'S 9AM AND I NEED TO GET IN TO MY EMAIL - BUT I CANNOT GET IN BECAUSE OF THE INCESSANT....
"OOPS SOMETHINGS GONE WRONG" BUG THAT PREVENTS ME FROM ACCESSING MY MAIL!!!!!!!!
PROTONMAIL IS ABSOLUTE, COMPLETE AND UTTER BUGGED OUT TRASH - AND THAT'S THE 10% OF THE TIME WHEN IT'S ACTUALLY WORKING AND IF YOU CAN GET IT TO WORK AT ALL - THE OTHER 90% OF THE TIME YOU GET ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BUT A BLACK SCREEN TELLING YOU
"OOPS SOMETHINGS GONE WRONG"
IT'S EITHER A BROKEN MESS THAT IS PARTIALLY FUNCTIONAL OR - MORE OFTEN - COMPLETELY BROKEN AND 100% UNUSABLE.
I HONESTLY DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY HAVE MESSED THEIR SERVICE UP SO BADLY BECAUSE I'VE BEEN A MEMBER HERE FOR MANY YEARS AND IN PREVIOUS YEARS THERE WAS NONE OF THESE ISSUES!!!
ALL OF THE ISSUES ARE NEW - AND HAVE BEEN BROUGHT ABOUT THROUGH 'UPDATES' OF THEIR SOFTWARE IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS!!!!!
IT WAS WORKING PERFECTLY BEFORE - NO ISSUES!!! - BUT AFTER THEIR 'UPDATES' - IT'S AN ABSOLUTLEY BUGGED OUT, UNUSABLE CESSPIT.
AVOID THE BUGGED OUT PROTONMAIL CESSPIT- DEFINITELY USE ANOTHER PROVIDER!!!!!
TO PROTONMAIL (YOU ABSOLUTELY USELESS NICOMPOOPS) - GET YOUR UNUSABLE, UNBEARABLE, INFURIATING, TRASH SERVICE FIXXXXXXXXXEDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another target here from PM massive disabling accounts for no reason. 4 emails in my inbox used for Medical records and Car magazine subscription. Logged in yesterday and Bingo! This pops up; this account its been disabled due to potential heavy violation. Contacted the appeal abuse form. Any reply? No. Funny I was in process of switching to paid subscription but after this? How can you trust a mail provider that disables accounts for the fun of it or their algorithms. Question is if they disabled you account what happens with your emails? They get deleted…or they will have access to them.
EDIT: I have received this response
Hello,
Unfortunately, our automated anti-abuse system has located more matching accounts that corresponded with your own, and in return our anti-abuse algorithm was triggered, suspending each account accordingly.
It should be noted that bulk signup is against our terms of service, and since we strongly believe that the accounts will be used against our terms of service, in order to protect our interests, we will be unable to assist you in reinstating your account.
So according to their algorythms they detected this when I haven´t created a single account further. And in order to algorythm to detect this...what are they saying they are controlling my IP? I don´t get it.

This morning when I tried to log into my account I got this red message: This account has been suspended due to a potential policy violation. If you believe this is in error, please contact us at..... I barely use this account only for some spare pw I got saved there of my IBS medical and a Cars forum. This is not first time I am having issues, last month my messages were encrypted when I changed my PW. I finally solved the problem. BTW if your reply will be the saame old: At Proton, you can always reach a real person quickly if this happens, by filling out the form here Abuse bla bla bla.....
Not true there is NO real person since I submitted 3 tickets and got no response so please stop stating things that are not true.

Awful customer service, comes across as some lonely bitter comic book guy caricature, just trying to make everyone's lives as sad as their own.
They suspended 2 of my email accounts for now reason and making it a pain in the @$$ to unsuspend for no apparent reason.

Seemed like its whole reason for being was to snatch up all gmail by requiring gmail to be forwarded to Proton. Installation crashed my Mac. Interface was not self-explanatory. Truly, it terrified and frustrated me. I deleted my account within 24 hours.

Other sites seem to have trust issues with proton, not allowing sign ups, shadow banning (reddit), frequent repeated captchas etc. No idea what this company has done but they are a waste of time and can jeapordise existing accounts if you change email addresses. They also do this weird thing where they try to bribe you to use them for your logins on other sites. Why would I do that?

Reply from Proton Mail
I signed up to Proton mail based on being in Switzerland and the end to end encryption.
But after signing up I found the 10 emails accounts aren’t real accounts with a mailbox but alias.
I required each email to have a split mailbox. I almost signed up to their family plan as it has multiple mailboxes. But I looked for an alternative. I found Fastmail is cheaper, offers 6 real mailboxes and better support, also can use iPhone mail app.
So I was in the process of moving to the new provider and updating my accountant and financial advisor of my new email account. When I was blocked from accessing my email account. The message
“This account has been suspended due to a potential policy violation. If you believe this is in error, please contact us….”
I was just updating my contacts with my new email address. But if your account is blocked you can expect to wait 24 hours before you can have it reactivated. They don’t have support in our region.
I also learned of daily email limits, also often your emails bounce back, isn’t received.
Plus the end to end encryption only works if your both with Protonmail. In most user cases you never use it.
I would avoid them altogether, the iPhone mail app can’t be used and their app is irregularly updated.
I went with Fastmail, cheaper, give you real email mailboxes, works with your iPhone app, quicker migration tool, better in everyway.
Its an "ok" Mailservice with focus on privacy etc.
IMHO they were at some time in the past the "good guys" but nowadays its a company trying to make money with some weird / not user friendly mechanics.
For example: when you cancel your subscription you will instantly loose access to everything you paid for and you wont get your money back.
I wrote them about that - didn't get any feedback and then tried to make a complaint via Paypal - now my whole proton account is "blocked because of a legal dispute".
I mean, if you need my money that badly - there you go keep it. But don't expect me to be happy about that.
This is just my experience. Try it for yourself if you think you "need" the protection.
