Many people also faced problems with the service itself, including account access difficulties, payment processing failures leading to service interruptions, and data disappearing. Reviewers also reported poor user experience with the online system, such as login loops and inability to update information. Prepaid service with strings attached

I bought a Public Mobile sim card at a cost of 10.00 and a 45.00 voucher to pay for the service package I wanted which is 39.00, works out to 43 and a little change with tax. When I went to activate it they wanted a credit card or Visa virtual debit card for the first payment and I couldn't use the voucher as payment. They also wanted to automatically enroll me in auto pay which would be charged to my credit or Visa virtual debit card used for the first payment. They give you the option to change this in the my account settings and after the first payment I can use vouchers to pay for my service, but not for the first one! I have had prepaid cell service with other providers like Chatr and NEVER have I had to provide a credit or Visa virtual debit card to activate, I have always been able to activate with a payment voucher. Public Mobile is cheaper for the same level of service I presently have with Chatr but comes with strings. I like paying CASH for services and I don't want companies having access to my bank account or credit card. I am now out the 10.00 for the sim and 45.00 for the voucher as that both are non-refundable! Chatr may be more expensive than Public Mobile but with no strings and still allows one to remain anonymous by NOT requiring one to pay by credit card or Visa virtual debit, I think I'll stick with them. It also would have been nice if the person at the Telus store who sold me the sim card would have told me about the first time payment needing to be done with a credit or Visa virtual debit card, if he had I wouldn't have bought the sim card and voucher. I was just trying to save a few dollars by switching to Public Mobile and I ended up LOSING dollars instead! What a STUPID first payment policy for a PREPAID service provider to have in my opinion, most people who use prepaid cell service use it because you don't need a credit card or Visa virtual debit card for payment or activation with most providers but not Public Mobile! As a result Public Mobile will NEVER have my business!

Have been a customer for several years…

Have been a customer for several years and customer support is terrible. Online chatbot is useless and it takes quite a while of prompting to even get link to submit ticket, and even then impossible to talk with a human. Received an error in app activating new phone and ended up in an endless loop - need to login to submit ticket, but can't login because website is trying to send 2FA code to the new number... which doesn't work because there was an error on activation. Considering moving to another provider.

Ordered a free SIM card. Received confirmation from Public Mobile. Due to overwhelming demand, order will take longer than expected to deliver. After 6 months, still have not received it. Untrustworthy company.

Haven't been able to log in for 3 weeks. Not getting a wrong password/email error, the site simply returns me to the log in screen. I have tried different browsers, incognito mode, the app etc.
I have no way to make a payment and am going to be forced to go to a different carrier. If anyone from Public Mobile is reading this, you are the worst company I have ever had to deal with. You deserve all the lost customers coming your way.

stay away

Reported my phone stolen on their website. They paused the subscription, but now I can't login to the account anymore because the verification code goes to the stolen phone (which makes no sense). Can't create a service ticket either because you need to be logged in. In the end I used a different account to login and open a service ticket. It gives you the impression that there is some help, but the system just does not work. In a nutshell, there is no such thing as customer service or help. In fact, all of the threads in the Public Mobile community group are unanswered questions (that tells you all you need to know).

What makes them bad

This company has the worst customer support ever. It's incredible hard to reach out to an agent, everything is online, the website is definitively not user friendly, it's highly confusing to navigate it and even the get help section is a chaos. The service is not that bad, but everything else makes them not the option.

I was attempting to port my existing…

I was attempting to port my existing phone number to Public Mobile, I used their app and set up the transfer. Then I got texts saying it could take some time and that I might get a text from my current carrier. I did get a text from them.....st 9:35 pm. I was not monitoring my phone at that hour and assumed that if I did get a text it would be during more normal hours. So then it timed out the request at my carrier, so I called them, they said that I had to get Public Mobile to resend the request. I spent the next hour or so attempting to do that. I could get as far as submit a ticket but when I tried to submit it it kept saying I needed to log in even though I had just logged in, then it would error out when I did try logging in again. In short I had to almost threaten my current carrier to get them to resend the link they sent at 9:35 pm, at this point I can’t recommend these people nor their god awful app. Makes one wonder how many people have issues and just give up due to frustration with the app. Hell of a poor way to run a business.

Switched from Bell Mobility to Public Mobile…

Switched from Bell Mobility to Public Mobile back in December of 2022. I managed to snag the $45 for 20gb unlimited calling and txt. Best deal I have gotten from an MVNO. There is no live support, however there is an option to submit a ticket through their online community should you need technical assistance. (So far no issues on my end) Also roaming packages are available for the USA. Roaming with T-Mobile.

ZERO Customer Service

As others have said, there is NO customer service.
It's like playing a game of cat and mouse and a complete waste of time. We were trying to update our credit card information after a card was compromised. We could not contact anyone, our line was cancelled.
Now we cannot contact anyone to have our phone number ported to a new provider. It is a total mess.
Avoid this carrier at all costs, anything you may save is not worth the stress and hassle.

After attempting to port my old number…

After attempting to port my old number to Public Mobile for 22 days straight , I simply gave up. This is the worst company you can deal with. No customer support at all. I saw their plan for 15GB per month for $40 and thought I would give it a try. Huge mistake. Save yourself the headaches and go with the plan Freedom is offering with 20GB per month for $40. ( Both plans are bring your own phone)

THIS COMAPANY IS A NIGHTMARE AND HAS NO SERVICE WHATSOEVER!

This company is a nightmare to navigate. It would take me a whole day to explain the hell that I have been going through with them since I lost my phone toward the end of the month of November 2022.

They have a system where they have to decide if you are worth giving an opportunity to chat with them. On two occasions, I was advised to be ready. Just like a gas company, they give you a window for when they will get in touch. I waited online and heard nothing from them. They have this email they love sending out to let you know, "OH WELL, YOU MISSED THE OPPORTUNITY WE GAVE YOU, GOOD LUCK NEXT TIME." I paraphrased, of course, but that was the gist of it.

Mind you, I never expected this lack of customer service at all in this day and age with so many competitors out there. It was only after I lost my phone that I realized there was no service whatsoever. In my search for help, I was led to their community board. By the way, you must start the registration process all over again to access their community board. The one you used to log into your account with them, does not count.

Once you get to the board, you are at the mercy of a bunch of eager beavers who are willing to write anything just so that they can appear to have contributed. This is because their community is a rewarding system meant for people who have nothing to do.

I thank God that I did not have my bank account attached to my phone. Can you imagine one of those Gen Z with their whole life on their phone?

I would still forgive them for the lack of customer service if they made an effort to offer real assistance to those who lose their cell phones. After all, it is an emergency situation where real help is needed.

Four months after I lost my phone, I am still not set up properly. My son spent 4 hours trying to help me when he realized I was not getting anywhere with the cell company. I could not receive or send texts even with a new SIM card. My son ended up setting me up with this public app called "SIGNAL." To this day, I am still using Signal, not the service I am paying for.

When it comes to receiving phone calls, they are not getting through properly. My family members are telling me that they are experiencing issues when they try to call me. Apparently, there is a message sometimes that tells my callers that this line is private. I have no idea what that means. I cannot count on my phone if I am stranded.

Anyway, after much frustration that led to insomnia and tears, I got a communication from a staff member, not from the eager beaver community nuts. Finally, I was hoping I could get help. In written communication, the idiot who contacted me stated that I should be prepared to provide proof that I am not in fact receiving my calls. This is due to their claim that their network demonstrated that everything was fine. They made me feel like I was making my problems up.

Needless to say, I did not get back to these "not-so-sharp" people. What is the point when their mind was made up?

Even today, we are in March 2023, and these witless people still do not realize that even my texts are not going through their networks.

I suspect one of the reasons the person who took my phone was able to do so much damage is that Public Mobile runs on the Telus network, and this man got his own cell phone from Telus directly. I got a lot of information on what he was doing with my cell phone through my account with Public Mobile. Although the phone was destroyed, he was using the SIM card and all my calls were being answered by him. In fact, I called my own cell phone two days after the fact, and he was answering my line. I asked him to return the phone to me, and he did. But even though he returned the phone, I purchased a new SIM card while using a new phone, the fraudster was still getting my call. Even resetting the call forward did not help.

My daughter-in-law had a similar problem with Public Mobile a few years ago. She could not receive her texts properly. So, my son set her up with the app signal as well. However, from this experience, my son felt it would be a moronic choice to join a company like Public Mobile since his whole life is on his cell phone.

This past holiday, Public Mobile offered me extra data, but I did not even bother to take it because of the pain and frustrations they put me through.

So I am at this point looking for a new company to deal with because this cell phone company is hazardous to your health. Just like my son said if you were born before the 1990s, stay away from Public Mobile.

I have had someone who was in the hospital in a coma and eventually died. Plus, I had to keep traveling back and forth between Quebec and Ontario to be with this family member. She is now gone, and I can finally say that things have settled down. So, I can start looking for a different company.

The nightmare is still so vivid. Most of the time, I travel without my phone.
Thanks for the opportunity guys. :)

Do not get stuck abroad if Public Mobile is your service provider

I tried calling and there is no one to speak to. I have 3 kids under my plan, 1 of my kids is overseas for the next 6 months and I am unable to adjust the plan as I do not have access to her account and she does not have access to her account and no customer service rep to speak to at PM. There should be no issue with my account as I am doing pre-authorized payments. It is useless to try speaking to Simon. If you travel overseas, do not use this service provider. Incase of an emergency, there is no help.
