Everything went easily except when I…

Everything went easily except when I paid extra to select seats and then seats were chosen for me. I will have to tend to this on the date I will travel at the station. I doesn’t seem to much of an ask to be refunded for fees for seat selection. Otherwise, I’m happy with Rail Europe.

For Deutsche Bahn (DB) services such as your Salzburg - Munich Airport journey, passengers can choose seat preferences during booking (for example window, aisle, or table preference). However, specific seat numbers cannot be selected in advance on these trains. Seats are then automatically allocated by the rail operator based on availability and the preferences selected.

We understand this may feel different from what was expected. As Rail Europe acts as a distributor, we follow the seating rules set by the train operators, and in this case DB manages seat allocation directly.

If your assigned seats are not suitable, you can also speak with the onboard team on the day of travel, who may be able to assist with a seat change/swap depending on availability.

We appreciate your understanding and are happy to hear you are otherwise satisfied with your experience.

We found you support request through which you contact our customer support team. Our team did review your request at the time of booking and confirmed the seating arrangement with the railway operator. Your seats were assigned in a standard configuration, and you were offered the option to request a change to alternative seats (subject to availability and a small service fee). As per your final confirmation, you chose to keep the seats as originally allocated.

Seat assignments are managed based on availability from the train operator, so while we always do our best to accommodate preferences, together seating cannot always be guaranteed.

On these services, passengers can simply board the train and take any available seat in their class.

Situations like slow running or unexpected stops are managed directly by the rail operator (Deutsche Bahn), and unfortunately these are outside of our control as we only provide the ticketing and booking service.

That said, if your journey was delayed, you may be eligible for compensation depending on the operator’s delay policy. If you're looking for delay compensation, please feel free to contact our Customer Support team with your booking details and any delay confirmation or proof from your journey, and they’ll be happy to guide you through the next steps.

To rech out, simply select the "Help" option at the top of our homepage, then choose the "Rail Europe Support" tool at the bottom right to access our Chatbot. Regarding seat reservations, seat selection is available for most of the Trenitalia trains. For most other rail operators, only seat preferences can be selected at the time of booking, and seats are automatically assigned based on availability and the rail operator’s seating policy.

We found your service request through which you contacted our customer supoprt team. As our support team confirmed, once a booking is issued, the date of birth cannot be modified on the ticket itself. However, we have verified that the correct age category (Senior) has been applied to the booking, so this should not affect travel. A note with the correct date of birth has also been added in the Eurostar system so it can be viewed by the operator if needed.

We understand this situation can feel stressful, but please be assured that with the correct fare type applied and a valid ID presented during travel, your husband should not face any issues on the journey.
