Basic Ionizer smoke alarm without hush button. Lasted 2.5 years on just a heavy duty 9v - even with many kitchen smoke events and a 7 day bushfire smoke. Now wont stop. Forensic teardown followed, and it was not the electronics. I do NOT blame the company, as I think frying oil smoke shortens the life of all alarms. Same for solder flux or vape fumes - anything sticky so also cigarette smoke. The company needs to supply better care and how to clean instructions. An air-duster may not be enough. Insects and ants are another possibility. Mine on disassembly had a sticky fine film of dust on the plastic inside, so I presume the ionizer is kaput. Makes me feel better when tossing it to the smoke alarm bin. You can extend the life with tricks - a plastic bag and rubber band (like Oregon fires, wheat harvest time, crispy bacon fry-ups) . Even 1/2 a clear juice container with a bit of trimming. Whatever alarm you buy - the wrong smoke will accumulate and kill it over time. I will stick to the basic ones, as none of the fancy wifi 10 year battery alarms - not one states if a conformal coating has been applied.
