Wouldn't recommend if you need rent paid on time

Used this service for two years, still getting flagged as fraudulent payments making my rent late. Now using the tag line of developers issues. Trying to organise a work around with one of there representatives Terence, kinda disappointing how you treat long-term customers

Hi JM

Thank you for sharing your feedback — and for being a loyal RentPay customer over the past two years. We completely understand how frustrating it is to have a rent payment delayed, especially when you’ve done everything right.

Our scam detection system is designed to protect customers from fraudulent or stolen card transactions. While it can occasionally flag legitimate payments for manual review, we agree it shouldn’t inconvenience long-term, trusted users. The team is currently reviewing these rules to reduce unnecessary delays while keeping your account secure.

We appreciate your patience, your feedback genuinely helps us improve. Should you wish to discus further please call 1300 797 933 and ask for the Customer Service Manager

I like the flexibility of payment…

I like the flexibility of payment options, especially for earning credit card points. I’m fortunate to not need to use score builder but I think it would be useful for those that need to build their credit score. It looks like they add features pretty regularly, such as the Paylab integration for using cash back to help with your rent.

Absolute trash

Absolute trash. Forced into using some fintech SAAS product by dirtbag real estate agents. I was happily paying my rent by the same method for over 3 years and now all of a sudden I have to interact with this ridiculous (alleged) product.
Support is hopeless, the chat expert just keeps repeating themselves and doesn't actually try to help.

RentPay IS NOT ABOUT HELPING RENTERS. They're about lining their own pockets and making it easier for predatory businesses to take every cent they can from us.

Frauds

When I missed a payment for my week of advance rent, they lied to me and said the missed payment would be added on to a future payment, then sold my debt to a company who tried to add more than $250 in fees for less than $250 of missed payments, when I approached customer service about this they just tell me to talk to the other company and refuse to apologise or correct their mistake, absolute scammers

Laura - our Customer service team will be reaching out to you shortly, its clear something has gone wrong

Scorebuilder fees are on the site - basically, the $ borrowed should have have been split into 4 equal fortnightly repayments with fees of around $16 (4 x $4).

Another set of people making money off renters

TLDR: As a current landlord AND a renter, I can honestly say - stay away from RentPay.
Fee of $2 per a month for the honour of your rent being handled by a middleman.
High fees for most transactions; credit card, debit card, even BPAY.
Very high fees if a payment is declined; $15! No warning or 'strikes,' just an instant $15.
There is a large delay between funds going out of your bank and into RentPay, then from RentPay to the real estate agent. This means you have to pay rent many days earlier than you would have otherwise.
App and browser are annoying to use, and logging-in is a chore.
Payment history only goes back about 2 months, anything more and you have to ask support, whom then ask for more details, and take ages to get back to you - when it could easily be 2 clicks away if one were paying the real estate agent directly from their bank account.
"Pay when you want" is exactly the same as scheduled transactions that you can set up with most banks (and is fee-free, quicker to process, and easier to setup).
"Bill smoothing" is paying your utilities early, in smaller instalments (this is money better left in a savings account).
"Build your credit score" is just access to payday loans.
And to top it off, it's all dressed up in Alegria-like design (those colourful depictions of people in whacky poses, big smiles, curvy arms), and obnoxious slogans stating "for the renter" (how exactly?), and "make that rent money work for you" (i.e. for us) and "pay when you want" (i.e. early or really early or really really early).

Kari, thank you for your feedback. We understand if RentPay isn't for you, but there are some inaccuracies in your review:
We have zero set-up fees for RentPay.
Our direct debits clear in 2 business days, which is market-leading, and we also support PayID payments, which are free and instant.

We're committed to providing a service that adds value to renters while ensuring transparency in our pricing. With RentPay, tenants have flexibility and choice in how they pay their rent. An example of this is the ability for tenants to pay rent on their credit/debit card with no cash advance fees, which is not something that is possible through a standard bank account.

Our Bill Smoothing feature also gives tenants up to $5 per week cashback, which is also not something you would get from your bank.

We should also be clear we do not offer payday loans. Our Scorebuilder product is interest-free, and it has proven incredibly popular with tenants looking to build their credit score.

If you would like to discuss your feedback, please feel free to reach out at jamess@rent.com.au. Thank you - James and the RentPay team.
