We have 3500 5 star reviews on our main review platform here https://rguitars.co.uk/pages/richards-guitars-review (using Yotpo). We use Yotpo because it enables our customers to review specific products along with the service received. Sadly -we cannot pay for both systems and therefore we find, although customers are sometimes kind enough to post TWO reviews - one on our site and one here, most customers tend to only resort to posting on here when they have had a problem which is naturally distressing but unavoidable. The result is a very unfair representation of how many unhappy customers we actually have. I (Richard) am fanatical about providing a unique level of service and if anyone ever has a problem I will contact them in person to help resolve their issue. Richards Guitars provides a bespoke service for anyone requiring a quality acoustic or electric guitar. Live Help is available throughout the day and night via our website, we have a growing Youtube video library and of course you are welcome to visit in person and chat to me - Richard who has specialised in Guitar retail for 27 years - or one of my lovely team :) Every guitar sold is set up to perfection in our workshop and play tested before dispatch to ensure your guitar feels like "your" guitar on arrival and not just "a" guitar. Hope to hear from you soon.

Eastman E20P

I originally purchased an Auden Emily Rose guitar from Richards Guitars as a special birthday present for myself. I asked for the guitar to be delivered on the day before my birthday and Richard made sure I received it on the day requested. Unfortunately, as I had not played the guitar before ordering it, I quickly discovered that the guitar was not for me (string spacing was too close for finger style). I returned the guitar and re-ordered an Eastman E20P (wider string spacing). This was not a problem and Richard was very helpful in sorting this out for me. I can only say that throughout the whole process all of the team were really good. The Eastman guitar is perfect for me and I am glad to have purchased my guitar from Richards Guitars. I should like to thank the whole team (Richard, Jon and Sally) for their help. I cannot recommend Richards Guitars enough and will definitely use them again when purchasing further guitar.

Ordered an Eastman T486 in sunburst.

It's not just the best built guitar I've owned, it's the best setup from the case I've had and it plays beautifully.

As I write we're mid coronavirus, so I've not had chance to try it at volume yet. But it sounds fantastic at bedroom levels. It's my first semi, but it's more comfortable than I expected too.

Great service and an excellent case. Couldn't be happier.

The experience was a really good one

The experience was a really good one! From the receipt of my online order, I was kept continually up to date with progress. If there was a query from me, Sally answered it in quick time with detailed explanations. Considering the difficult period we are all in, the process was a credit to all concerned!!

They care about what they do & they’ve been very helpful in every aspect of my dealing with them. I’m very happy now to know that I’ve Found the best musical instrument 🎸 Shop to do business with. Also like the videos on You tube. Keep up the good work. Regards Noel. (Dublin)

I cannot envisage better service in any other guitar shop.

I am so pleased that I stumbled upon Rguitars while searching for a new guitar. The advice I received made me aware of many aspects of choosing the right guitar that I was oblivious to. I was warmly welcomed to the premises and was left to try several different guitars chosen on the basis of the previous discussions. After choosing one it was set up to exact requirements. I am absolutely delighted with it!
I will definitely use Rguitars for my Next purchase and recommend them wholeheartedly.

Superb service as usual

Richard seems to come in for some unwarranted criticism. I've now bought four items from him (3 guitars and an FX) and have ALWAYS received first class, personal service. He is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about guitars and has a very - er -idiosyncratic (eccentric?) style for his many Youtube uploads but his service is superb. The fact that he makes sure the setup of every guitar he sells is spot on is one of the features of his business that sets him apart from all the big online dealerships. This does, of course, mean that you have to wait for the guitar to be delivered but unless you're one of the "I want it tomorrow" brigade, this is a small price to pay. And let's face it, if you are one of those who want next day delivery from a dealer, you're likely to have to spend hours (or more money) resolving all the setup issues that are likely to ensue from an instrument that is simply shifted out from a warehouse. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Richard and his guitar shop.

This would have been 5 stars only the…

This would have been 5 stars only the miscommunication about delivery, albeit Richard Guitars we’re moving premises, there could have been a bit more clarity about the situation, we bought two Faith Neptune PJE Legacy guitars and they absolutely amazing and set up fantastic, I still would highly recommend Richard guitars as they are very informative and easy to talk to with fantastic wealth of knowledge, we were offered two guitar straps for our trouble which was nice, I think if Richard had of been dealing with this himself there would have been no problem at all so probably all about unfortunate timing.. I feel really bad for the 4 stars as Richard is so passionate about what he does and his team ensure only guitars in the absolute perfect condition go out to everyone..

Great guitar shop

Great shop, friendly, knowledgeable people, they have an enthusiasm for the guitars they sell. Richard found many guitars for me to play and compare and in the end I went for the Furch yellow series, which I love to bits.

Good But Room For Improvement

OK first off let me say that Rguitars sent me a beautiful Eastman AC330 12 string acoustic guitar for a really good price and that I would certainly deal with them again if purchasing another guitar.

So why not the full 5 stars? Well, my feeling is, that when looking at and considering a guitar from Rguitars, you get a lot of love, time and passion, especially from Richard, in terms of his time, his advice and customer care..

However, when you've parted with your cash, you can be left to feel like the love affair has cooled a little. In my case, before the purchase I was told that four of the guitars were due in the following week. So I'm thinking, great, allowing for it being set up etc. I might get it in two weeks and at a pinch within one.

It arrived four weeks later. This wasn't a big deal, but it would have been nice just to have some updates on the status update page (which remained empty), even to say things were being held up because they were busy (or to do with the shop move which I know was under way at the time). I did get one update to say that Richard would be personally testing the guitar but this was over three weeks after the order.

When the guitar did finally arrive, it didn't come with anything other than a certificate of authenticity from Eastman, nothing from Rguitars themselves like a note to say thanks and hope you like the guitar, give us a call if there is a problem etc. It's not a big deal but I think it feels nice to have a bit of a personal touch rather than this anonymous cardboard box turning up.

I kind of had a similar experience with a guitar strap ordered from Rguitars a little later that simply came in a felt pen written envelope with nothing else - it felt a bit thrown together.

Additionally I discovered my guitar came not with a Fishman Matrix pickup (as advertised) but with an LR Baggs Element VTC. Now, I understand fully that Rguitars may not have known about this (though one would think the absence of the Fishman logo would have shown up in their inspection) and in any case I'm not complaining as it sounds great, but it would have been nice to have been alerted about this change in spec in advance in case it was an important factor in my purchase.

I understand that Rguitars isn't a huge outfit with heaps of staff and was undergoing a change of premises so I'll take that in mitigation and ultimately I'm very happy with my purchase, but I'm saying these things as I'd like to see this great little supplier do and be even better than they are.

Addendum - 16/3/20:

Thanks Rguitars for your reply - I think it speaks volumes when a company replies to feedback good or bad, so +1 to you for that. I know I personally have been swayed by even one star reviews when I see that the company has taken time to address or follow-up on that review.

Anway thanks again and all the best for the new shop/tech and website - hope to do business again in the future!

Hi

I want to thank you for your reply. To me it shows you care about the business. Everything you have said is 100% spot on - both in terms of why events unfolded (and you will see many other reviews who had similar experiences during this time) but also the need for every customer to feel "loved" throughout the process.

NOTHING is more important to me than my customers loving their guitars - but also loving the experience dealing with us.

Due to our reputation we have been immensly busy which in itself puts pressure on delivery times - but combining this with the massive issues around moving an entire business whilst continuing to trade and it shows why some customers experienced the delays to the level you did.

To put this in context. I moved premises for one reason. To do what we do BETTER. On EVERY level. From in store experience, through to customer support etc. It had to be done. Not because I want to take over the world - but because I want to be the best version of US that we can possibly be.

The same - but better.

Since moving in to the new premises I have been able to take on an incredible second technician. This alone has had a profound effect on waiting times.

I am as we speak implementing a new communication platform - the chat went live over the weekend. This software integrates ALL of your order history, email communication, live chats and delivery information. This is designed to radically improve my ability and my teams ability to know you better - to understand your needs better - and to see if you have had issues at any stage with this order or previous ones. This is purely to make us better at what we do already.

I TOTALLY agree that the smaller details are important too. A Thank you note - even if pre printed is a lovely touch and some people dont care for it - but I know I would appreciate it.

Bottom line is not only am I listening to you - I agree with you - and have been for many months working on the plans that are unfolding as we speak to ensure my customers feel loved MORE than ever before. We have now moved. Tick! We have the new communication system unfolding. Tick! Second tech. Tick! Have you seen the new website? Tick! lol.... Even the website is designed to help you understand the products easier than before..... and yes I WILL get some lovely thank you notes created - every detail. I never stop listening, learning and hopefully improving what I do.

I continue to be available to my customers all hours - 7 days a week (personally!). I am always the back stop for all of this so if anything fails - I am here to try and help.

Thanks once again for your feedback. Very much appreciated.

PS... Next time... Let me know how if the experience throughout improved for you. It better had. AND.... so glad you love the guitar!!!
