As someone who administers a scam and hoax awareness group, this is dodgy in capitals

You do not need to, nor should you expect to, register with a company and pay for your details to be removed from other companies. This is something which can be done for free and takes a matter of seconds to do for each company in your own time.
I should also add that I have been the co-admin of a scam and hoax awareness group for some time, so am reasonably well versed in scams. This organisation, whoever they may be, ticks a lot of the boxes for a scam, so I would strongly advise people NOT to register with this organisation, for the reasons I've already mentioned.

Rightly is free to use - we don't ask for any payment details anywhere in the process so let me put your mind at ease there.

You're right that you don't have to register with a company to send GDPR related requests, using Rightly is a personal choice.

We've developed a process that allows people to see which companies have their data by analysing their personal inbox. From there you can bulk send requests to any you want to erase what they hold, our users are sending an average of 30-40 requests in a matter of seconds!

Years of research and analysis in to the data protection space has found that people are unclear on what their rights are and feel overwhelmed at the prospect of how many companies hold their data, Rightly is doing something about that.

Does not take too long and works

Does not take too long and certainly helps to trim down the old data kept by now unused sites.
I would say this is the easiest way of getting your old - not used or other outdated data cleared.

Such a good service. Got my data removed from a large number of sites and cut down the volume of daily emails a lot.

Absolutely spamming random companies…

Absolutely spamming random companies asking for info to be removed - makes no sense at all

We hold customer data of people who have opted in, if they want to opt out they know how to

fake company offering fake service - stop spamming me!!!

This does not work.

Ok, so I thought I would give this a go as I would like to reduce my internet footprint to the volume of email I receive daily. I receive around 30-40 daily so if I miss a day or two I quickly have over 100 emails to deal with, not all are sensible ones either. However, there are five steps with rightly to do this exercise and it will not go past step number one. I have tried everything possible including rescanning my inbox about 8 times now but it will not allow me to progress after it has scanned my inbox. Seems pointless if the process will not proceed further. What a waste of my time that was.

What started out as a god idea

What started out as a god idea, I thought yes I had probably like many have old accounts in our lives that could be cleared out or forgotten info, so after using this service it found 159, it then sent out my wishes via email and out of 159 only 3 could be removed.
It seems the best way to remove information is to approach them if you can and take the time to email them, many companies are wary of 3rd parties, they can request "ID check helps us to validate the lawfulness of the request, it is proof that you are who you say you are, protecting us and you from fraudulent data requests" and use this too Please do understand GDPR and CCPA legal requirement and you must contact the merchant from whom you purchased the item, so many requests have rebuffed the request, and sent me email us and we will discuss the issues.
So its a good idea, but needs a lot more work with companies so they understand.

Thank so much for your reply, really fair feedback! All elements you've mentioned we are completely aware of and are working hard to address.

You can imagine how many individual companies and contacts there are in peoples inboxes (Clue: in the hundreds of thousands and that's just since Jan!). We won't send a request to a business unless it's been verified first. We are onboarding companies as quickly as possible and are reviewing ways to safely semi automate so this side of things is improving quickly :)

You can of course approach companies individually however, Rightly's Protect service is an enhancement on that and all submissions made via it are 1st party not 3rd party. Some companies will still have additional internal processes and ID checks they want to perform regardless of the submission type.

Rightly is taking in all the feedback from its users and putting it to good use to encourage positive change in the GDPR space, businesses asking for excessive ID for example is not ok and we are seeing this happen a lot.

We'd welcome you to try the service again, perhaps in a couple more months to see where are, we'd love to hear any ongoing feedback you have, and feel free to get in touch directly too via support@rightly.co.uk

Rightly Protect

I used Rightly Protect to scan my inbox to see which companies may hold my data and to then send data deletion requests to those I selected. The use of the inbox as a source of companies that may hold data makes a lot of sense. The service is free and easy to use, and a very efficient way to send data deletion requests. However, only some of the companies I had requested to delete my data responded to confirm they had indeed done so and some required further identification for security purposes. This makes the process not so seamless, but I understand this is unfortunately outside of the direct control of Rightly and more a weakness of privacy legislation and enforcement. The service would be improved if there was an account dashboard to see which requests had previously been sent and send follow-up emails to companies which have not responded.
