Bunch of jokers and cowboys

I took my car to road radio in Redhill Surrey 2 days ago to have the rear view camera fixed and I was given today’s appointment as they had to order the wires and some other stuff for the car. I dropped the car today and after an hour I was told that wires are not compatible and option is to put a new camera. I agreed and asked them to install the camera. 3 hours later when they didn’t call me back , I went there and saw that the technician is still working. He told me that the new camera was working after installation but once he tried to retest it for 3-4 times the system stopped responding. So he decided to reset it to factory settings and since than the system stopped working. He tried for almost 4 and half hours but didn’t succeed.
The guys sent the pictures to their director on WhatsApp and than the director called me saying that the system is £20 worth bought from Alibaba/ebay and that it’s not their fault that it stopped working and intact was doing me a favor of not charging me for their time. Once I started to argue He than told me that if I buy another system from eBay , he will fit it for me for free. This is rediculous as I went in with fully working system , it stopped working in their hands and instead of taking the responsibility started blaming that your car is old and system is cheap.
The technician even started to bang the car doors and said that you bring this cheap car and cheap stereo to us and than blame us for ruining it.
If the car and system was cheap that they shoukd have told me that it’s risky and that they cannot do it .
Never seen such a hopeless team and customer service here.
Will not recommend to anyone neither will go to them again

Dear Nadeem,

Thank you for your feedback. After reviewing the details of your visit and speaking with the team at our Redhill branch, I feel it's necessary to clarify the situation.

We are a company with over 50 years of experience, and the technician who worked on your vehicle has been with us for more than 20 years. Referring to our team as "cowboys" is not only inaccurate but also unwarranted given the expertise and professionalism we bring to every job.

Your Vehicle and System:

You brought in a 2011 Toyota Vitz, which is an imported non UK spec vehicle. Upon inspection, it was clear that the stereo system in your car was an aftermarket unit of lower quality, not the factory-fitted stereo we were expecting. This alone introduced risks, as aftermarket systems are often not built to the same standards as factory equipment. It’s worth mentioning that the issues you faced stem from this non-factory stereo, not the installation of the camera.

The Camera Installation:

Our team proceeded with the installation of a new reverse camera as requested. While the camera initially worked, it started malfunctioning during repeated tests. As standard procedure with faulty electronics, a reset was attempted, which unfortunately resulted in the stereo system stopping altogether. The failure of the stereo system is clearly related to the aftermarket unit's quality, age and condition, not our work.

Responsibility:

It’s important to be clear that we cannot be held responsible for the failure of a cheap, non-factory stereo system. The system was already compromised, and resetting it exposed underlying faults. As a goodwill gesture, our Director offered to install a new system for you free of labour charges, should you choose to purchase one.

While we understand your frustration, the issue lies entirely with the quality of the aftermarket stereo. We maintain that our team acted professionally throughout, and the failure was beyond our control.

The offer to install a replacement system remains open, should you decide to proceed. Please contact us if you'd like to discuss further.

Regards

Andy Crawford

Superb - great service and new car gadgets :-)

I contacted Radio Radio to sort front and rear sensors, plus upgrade my cars media unit - they were half the price of the badged dealer and the service was way better too. Friendly, showed me how to use the media system and now I get beeps front and back. Brilliant stuff, would definitely recommend. :-)

Alpine INE W611D vs W611DC

I needed a replacement Alpine unit for my broken Alpine INE W920R on which the mother board after 10 years. Unfortunately I was informed by Road Radio the INE W611D was the only unit that could replace mine. I have a large Land Rover Defender XS 110. Road Road radio knew this. It is in fact not correct that the alpine INE W611D is the only possible replacement there is a INE 611DC. This DC unit allows you to enter your vehicle dimensions and has software on it that sends down appropriate routes for larger heavier vehicles. This would have been the correct unit for me. By the time I realised it was too late. The unit had been fitted. I was offered the best route to get the right unit was to sell my new unit through eBay. You live and learn, and I have learnt. This was poor advice from the start and poor after sales. Very disappointed.

Hi Robert,

I was upset by your 1-star review, especially after we had spoken over the phone. I must say, I find it spiteful, as I did my very best to help.

After reviewing the situation, I would like to clarify that the INE-W611D was recommended as a replacement for your INE-W920R based on compatibility and availability at the time. Since your previous unit served you well for 10 years without the DC functionality, we considered it a suitable replacement, particularly since you had managed without a DC version for so long.

Regarding the INE-W611DC, it does indeed offer additional features such as vehicle dimension input and route planning for larger vehicles. However, our recommendation was based on the information provided during our discussions. Unfortunately (it was 2 months ago) I do not recall a conversation where these specific needs were mentioned. (towing a caravan) Had we known these features were essential for your vehicle, we would have certainly recommended the INE-W611DC.

It was great to hear, however, that the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features, which were not available on your 10-year-old INE-W920R, came to your rescue while you were abroad.

Regards,

Andy

Wrong product dispatched

Wrong product dispatched. Correct item sent out promptly. But no apology and no response to request for refund of priority shipping that was wasted.

Hi Peter,

I’m very sorry for the inconvenience caused. Like many companies, we operate with a reduced staff during the summer holidays, which may have contributed to the issue. We’ll review what went wrong to prevent it from happening again.

The carriage refund has been processed, and we’ve arranged for the collection of the incorrect item on the 27th.

Thanks for your understanding, and apologies once again.

Kind regards,

Andy
