Our romance

I admit that it wasn’t love at first sight. We arrived travel sore in the dark and had to wait for our agent to arrive. The apartment was cold, the sliding door to the second bedroom was off the track, and the mattresses were pretty hard. But our agent was very friendly, fixed the door, and the radiators were turned on. Each day as we got to know the neighborhood was like a developing courtship. We fell in love with the location, the views from our apartment, the spacious living room and kitchen, and the feeling that we were in a real neighborhood instead of another group of tourists. My husband had a bad cold, but the pharmacist just next door was so helpful. We had great haircuts from the salon just down the street, and there were grocery stores, bakeries, etc., etc. within easy walking distance. Proximity to mass transit was close, but we could also walk in 15 minutes to the Tiber and a beautiful stroll along the river to other popular neighborhoods. When we requested them, we received more clean towels, laundry soap, and other housekeeping items. I would recommend that the owner to upgrade the bedding and to provide more opportunities to unpack clothes especially for a longer stay like ours which was for ten days. Because the rest of the apartment was so nice in so many ways, these relatively smaller issues created an unnecessary distraction from the otherwise great elements the apartment provided. I would rent this again in a heartbeat.

We had a terrible experience that Romeloft did little to resolve

I've condensed my review: Romeloft has edited their reply multiple times and their most recent post, while still dismissive, defensive, and aggressive, should give you a truer picture of what they care about (i.e., their reputation over actual guest satisfaction). Notice that they have no concerns about us as paying long-term guests--just our negative review of how we feel they treated us during our stay.

Edited review:
We just had a terrible experience with Romeloft, unfortunately. We paid over 14,000 Euro to stay at "The Spanish Steps Enchanting Apartment" for 7 weeks from mid-May to July 1 while my husband was taking university courses locally.

The advertising is false which promises "a refuge," "an ideal setting for relaxation," and an "escape." The conditions of our stay did not align with those phrases. As people who have stayed at multiple luxury properties (rentals and apartments in Italy), we sincerely believe they should change the advertisement and the price point of that to reflect more "budget accommodations" and not "luxury living." There was nothing luxurious about the apartment or the stay.

We found out after we checked in that the building is owned by a family who lives in the different apartments. What this means is that the children downstairs run up and down the stairs and in and out of the elevator at different times of the day and the night visiting their other family members. The same family with kids lives below this apartment and the outdoor courtyard is only accessible to them. At all hours of the day and the evening, the kids are in that courtyard playing, screaming, crying, and throwing balls at different objects so we could hear the loud banging from inside the apartment. In the apartment's living room, you can also hear someone playing the piano downstairs at all hours of the day during the week and on the weekend.

We didn't complain about this initially because the apartment is decent and the location is great. However, two weeks before we checked out, we were woken up at 8 a.m. to loud drilling and banging on the bedroom wall. That is the owner's apartment. We looked out on the balcony and saw workers. We contacted RomeLoft who didn't reply until hours later. The owner decided to start building a large balcony for her apartment even though we already booked our stay. Romeloft did nothing about it other than thank us for our patience and to say that they would try to start later the next day. You should mention that there will be a major construction project to guests before you book the apartment. The head of the bed in the main bedroom shares a wall with the owner's apartment. The construction was behind that wall. So, we were super close to the drilling, hammering, etc. -- no advance notice, no explanations, no empathy, and no information on when the construction would end. This had nothing to do with the "jubilee" - her new balcony is situated in the inner courtyard of the building right above where the children play. So, to connect that project to the "jubilee" is highly misleading.

We think it's very rude and highly unethical to start a major construction project while you are renting out the apartment next door and it was really unprofessional of Romeloft who didn't nothing about it.

If we could post the videos here that we sent to Romeloft when the construction started, we would, and then other potential guests judge who is wrong in this situation. It's clearly not us--paying guests. And, as you can tell from the Romeloft reply, this is how defensively they respond to guests who complain about being inconvenienced in any way...and never kindly.

Also, if you stay more than a week, then there's a weekly cleaning service. However, it's unclear when they will show up. When they arrive, the cleaners have no identification to suggest that they are connected to the property--they show up in street clothes and speak mostly Spanish, so it was initially unclear if they were hired by the owner, Romeloft, or someone else. It's a really confusing process. We had to send WhatsApp messages to RomeLoft to verify it all.

There's no communication from RomeLoft after you check-in. We had to send them a WhatsApp message the night before check out to ask what to do with the keys.

Finally, we had an amazing time in Rome. It is our favorite city. We were “regulars” at many of the restaurants in the area and were sad to leave them behind. We look forward to going back to Rome - just without Romeloft’s help or to that apartment.

We would encourage you to stay away from Romeloft and the "Spanish Steps Enchanting Apartment." They wait until negative reviews are posted publicly before trying to address a situation--their approach is to blame the paying customer as opposed to accepting responsibility for their service issues.

Dear Stephanie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

While we are genuinely sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, we must respectfully clarify several of the points you've raised, and also express how deeply disappointed we are by the tone and accusations in your review.

Calling our company "ridiculous" is not only unconstructive, but frankly offensive. RomeLoft has been operating with professionalism and dedication in this market for over 15 years, serving thousands of satisfied guests from around the world. We take great pride in the properties we manage and the high standard of service we offer. The use of such language towards a company with a long-standing track record and commitment to hospitality is both unfair and inappropriate.

Regarding your comments on reviews:
Our website transparently displays verified reviews from our Airbnb listing, where this specific apartment has consistently received outstanding ratings and has even been awarded the “Guest Favorite” badge, a recognition given to only the top 10% of listings worldwide. We do not have the ability — nor the desire — to filter or “hand-pick” these reviews. They are public, authentic, and speak for themselves.

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/980300510042709113

As for the construction:
We were not informed in advance of the owner's decision to carry out work in their private apartment. We learned about it at the same time you did. In a city like Rome — especially during a Jubilee year when much of the city is undergoing improvements — occasional noise or building work is, unfortunately, part of urban life. The works were carried out within the legal timeframes allowed by local regulations, and our team responded promptly to your messages and did what we could to follow up with the building’s residents.

Concerning the courtyard:
The building is home to several resident families who have every right to use the common areas. While we understand noise tolerance is subjective, occasional sounds of children playing are not unusual in a residential setting, and this has never been flagged as an issue by past guests — many of whom have enjoyed long, peaceful stays at this same property.

On pricing:
You stayed in a spacious, two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment for 50 nights, in peak season, just steps from Trinità dei Monti and the Spanish Steps — one of the most prestigious and central locations in Rome. The rate you paid was fully aligned with the local market, and many would consider it excellent value given the quality, size, and location of the accommodation.

In closing, we are sincerely sorry that your experience was not a positive one, but we believe that your review is not only unbalanced, but unfairly aggressive toward a property and team that have consistently delivered excellent service. We stand by the apartment, our work, and the many guests who continue to enjoy their stays with us.

We wish you all the best,
The RomeLoft Team

What a gorgeous apartment

What a gorgeous apartment! We loved staying here, it's a great location with the colosseum, trevi fountain and Spanish steps all in easy walking distance. Please bare in mind, if you are not fully able bodied, the apartment is up 3 flights of stairs, if you are able though it's worth the climb. The apartment was available straight away when we arrived at 11am, this made it so we could start our site seeing straight away. There are lots of gorgeous eateries nearby, too many to try them all! We would come back in a heartbeat. Thanks for a great stay Dhan & team.

Fabulous apartment in Trastevere

We stayed in the "modern" or "contemporary" apartment in Trastevere for the 3rd year in a row in March 2025, this time for 12 days. It is a great apartment in a fabulous location. It is clean, bright and well-appointed, and the building is quiet and has 24 hour security/porter. You can reach it on the local train from the airport, not the Leonardo express, which is better, and it is very convenient for trams 3 and 8 as well as many many buses. We have travelled all over the city on transit very easily from this location. It is also easy to walk to the historic (and noisier) part of Trastevere, up the Janiculum, over the river to Testaccio, Ostiense, the Aventine and Garbatella, and into the ghetto and historic centre. You can walk to 5 grocery stores and several small food stores (hot tables, baked goods and/or produce), and there are many restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Romeloft provides an easy check-in service, weekly cleaning if you stay long term (which we did last year) and helps resolve issues as they arrive (Having mistakenly turned the power to the fridge off, and thinking it was broken, we received quick assistance from Romeloft staff by whatsapp). We will be back!

We stayed in Saint Peter's Bright apartment

We stayed in Saint Peter's Bright Apartment. The positives: the balcony has a great view of St Peter's, it's easy to get to the city centre by bus, the apartment is spacious and we weren't bothered by noise. There is a dishwasher and a washing machine, both useful. There are restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries etc all on the doorstep. The restaurants are full of locals so the prices are reasonable. We did have a problem with the plumbing but this was swiftly dealt with and didn't impact our stay.
The less positives: the fixtures and fittings are old - especially the bathrooms. The furniture has seen better days. The apartment was superficially clean but there was a layer of dust over the wardrobes, tables in the living room. Some of the crockery in the kitchen cupboards wasn't clean (probably previous visitors are responsible for that). The apartment needs updating in general.
Overall, we had a good visit.

We had a fantastic short holiday in a Romeloft flat on Via Della Lungara. This flat is within walking distance of most attractions and in the super-cute old district of Trastevere, with delicious eateries and quaint shops. You can start each morning off right with delicious coffee and croissants from next door.
The flat is fully equipped and very reasonably priced. Fantastic that we were allowed to leave our belongings until 5pm on the day of departure. Kudos to Romeloft.

Best apartment we have ever stayed in!! (Trilussa penthouse)

If you want the romantic Rome experience you thought only existed in movies - book this apartment!!! It was truly amazing with a beautiful view in a charming and lively area of Rome! Both the apartment and balcony is as good as it looks in the pictures :) (Maybe even better)

The Romeloft-team were very friendly and quick to respond and help us when we by a mistake locked the keys inside the apartment.

To be honest I was looking for something to be faulty, because the apartment is too good to be true to that nice price, but if you have no problems with walking up 4-5 floors , or the subtle sound of people having fun in the streets outside (it's not loud at all, because the apartment is so high up) , the apartment is perfect!

If I would have to say one thing that could have been better, it would be the toilet seat which is a little bit loose, but that is honestly not a problem at all.

I have already recommended Romeloft and especially this apartment in Trilussa to my friends. We will come back:)

A light and airy apartment…

This was a light and airy apartment with a very nice balcony which had a partial view of St Peter’s basilica and an amazing view onto Rome. The apartment was well-equipped, we appreciated the dishwasher, washing machine, hairdryer etc.and dishwasher tablets, laundry liquid and cooking basics were there to use. It was really nice to be met at the apartment by Fabio, he showed us how everything worked and very thoughtfully left fruit, milk, wine and breakfast supplies.
There is a bus stop right outside the apartment (with an amazing view!) but we often walked down to Via San Gregorio where there were more bus options. There was a good Carrefour supermarket here too.
We liked the quietness of the location, it’s good to be out of the chaos of the centre after a day of sightseeing.
We really enjoyed walking over to the nearby Villa Doria Pamphili park on Sunday morning, having breakfast in the cafe and walking amongst the plane trees.

Cancellation without alternative Offer.

Cancellation of apartment 2 days before trip. No alternative is offered. It's stressful for us to find accommodation now in an overbooked city. Don't book if you except to travel without disruption.

Dear Tom,

My name is Lorenzo, and I am the CEO of RomeLoft. I am truly sorry that I did not see your review earlier, as I would have personally addressed it at the time.

Even though a significant amount of time has passed, I would still like to express how deeply sorry I am for the experience you had. Having a reservation cancelled just two days before arrival is understandably very stressful, especially in a city like Rome where availability can be extremely limited. I completely understand your frustration.

What happened in your case was, unfortunately, the result of a situation that was genuinely beyond our control. In over 20 years of activity in this sector, we have built our work on reliability and seriousness, and situations like this are extremely rare. The best way I can describe it is like an unexpected incident, something that almost never happens, but that, on very rare occasions, can occur despite every precaution.

That said, I fully acknowledge that from your perspective, the impact was very real and very inconvenient, and for that I am truly sorry. It is never the experience we want any of our guests to have.

As a gesture of goodwill, even though considerable time has passed, I would be very happy to offer you a 20% discount on a future stay with RomeLoft, should you decide to give us another opportunity. It would mean a lot to us to welcome you again and provide the level of experience we are known for.

Kind regards,
Lorenzo
CEO, RomeLoft

Prati Charming Attic Apartment- 5 Stars!

Staying at Sandra’s "Prati Charming Attic Apartment" was an absolute delight and the highlight of my time in Rome! From the moment I stepped in, the space felt incredibly inviting, with thoughtful touches that made me feel right at home. It’s clear that Sandra was very intentional with the design and setup, creating a peaceful and comfortable environment, and I always felt safe throughout my stay. Sandra was a fantastic host—responsive, warm, and attentive to every detail. Her care and dedication to making the best experience for her guests is totally felt from the first moment! I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and I highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a getaway in the Prati area! Thank you, Sandra!

Trasterve charming Penthouse

We booked the Trasterve charming penthouse.
The apartment itself is lovely & Spacious, 5 of us stayed there for a week. The aircon works well, its not in a suntrap which was great in July, theirs lots of crockery and equipment in the kitchen.
However, its not as clean as the photographs on their website. The shower doors, mirrors and windows were full of smears and smudges. The kitchen cuboards are dirty with hand smudge marks and drips.
We were welcomed with a large plumbing issue in the main bathroom opposite master bedroom where the water just fell straight through plughole and all over the floor. The bathroom tap also leaks in the onsuite on terrace level and the kitchen sink leaks into the cupboard.
The sofa is stained with marks and some chairs are unsafe to sit on!
We brought all of this to Romelofts attention on day one. They did respond and workmen attended the apartment the following day to fix the sink in main bathroom.
Romeloft did also offer for the cleaners to return on the 3rd day, which we refused because we felt our holiday had been inconvenienced enough with issue which should not have been there in the first place.
Romeloft also offered us a free of charge transfer back to airport. Which we did except, however the driver nor company were aware and I had to show evidence in all correspondence as proof with Romeloft!
Its such a shame because if those issues weren't there the apartment would of been a joy to stay in, but unfortunately that was not our experience. However, I cant fault Romelofts communication.

Trastevere Luxury Home: an Italian home away from home

Trastevere Luxury Home: we were expecting a special place, but we were really surprised by this apartment. It far exceeded our already high expectations. Located in the Trastevere neighborhood, one of the most traditional and attractive in Rome, it is a true gem: spacious, with lots of light, decorated with exquisite taste and at the same time with modern facilities that make it very comfortable and functional. The 2 bedrooms are very comfortable, the main one with a large bathroom and a very adequate space to store clothes or whatever is necessary. The kitchen should stand out: it has everything you need and of high quality and, at the same time, it has a very special design and is very attractive. The main room is very spacious, comfortable, with decorative touches that reflect the good taste of the owners, Indian and German pieces, ideal for relaxing after a day of visits and walks.

The location seemed perfect to us. Trastevere is a neighborhood that becomes very bustling at night. However, the apartment, although located a few steps from the area of restaurants, bars and shops, is on a very quiet cobblestone street. At the same time, it has access just a few meters from the main avenue of the neighborhood and is within walking distance of the most important monuments of Rome.

It is important to highlight that this is a recently renovated apartment, for which they did not skimp on providing it with the most modern communities, installing perfect lighting, air conditioning and Wi-Fi. We definitely plan to return many times, for the Eternal City but also for this home away from home.?

Gorgeous Trastevere apartment with amazing terrace…

Our apartment in Trastevere was absolutely beautiful. The photos on the website are entirely accurate; and it’s even better in real! The rooms are charming and spacious, filled with art and books and wonderful views. The kitchen is very well equipped, everything you need for cooking and dining. And the roof top terrace is unbelievable! The apartment is in a quiet part of Trastevere, and very close to a bridge that takes you over to old Rome in five minutes.
Dealing with Rome Loft is always a pleasure. The staff answered all my questions within hours, and their drivers to and from the airport are super professional (not frighteningly fast as we have experienced with Roman taxi drivers). Wonderful!
