Some fundamental problems with Rootpal…

Some fundamental problems with Rootpal hosting.

They have Plesk as control panel with all the needed options enabled. There is Wordpress toolkit for easily setting up, staging and maintaining everything that has to do with your Wordpress site. Several server locations with decent specifications. There is a knowledge base and some video tutorials for beginners.

So why the one star?
There has been a lot of downtimes. Not just short downtimes, but downtimes for half a day or whole days. This was not because of planned maintenance.
This is something fundamental, because what is a hosting when website/e-mail is not reachable for long times?
Of course a server can't be online all the time and has expected (short) downtimes, but in this case the downtime is just too high. Even free hosting i use never had this much downtime or lost any of my data.

To make this matter worse is that it happened already 3 times that they had to restore data with a very old backup. One time they restored data when i didn't notice downtime, but i suddenly lost mails.

At the time i got Rootpal they promised 30 day backup, but this has changed to one time weekly. So get ready to loose mails and website edits from a whole week or even more when they need to go back further.

There is support through support tickets and even a live chat, but this is mostly for simple questions and not for getting expertise on certain hosting problems or when you need a bit of more info.
Seeing how things are handled is a clear sign that they need someone with more expertise when it comes to maintaining their servers.

My sites are disconnected for a few days due to their server problem. I would not suggest people to use Rootpal for serious projects or client projects. Within 1 year, server problems happened occasionally. I suspect they are not operated in a company setting.

The Good, Bad, promised to be better & the worst

End of August update: After July fiasco comes the end of August debacle. Everything is wiped out and everything is like deja-vu from july: Rootpal stopped to communicate again, they even removed chat from their website, dissalowed to post or reply on their Facebook, they stopped responding to support tickets and although their statments are like: server restored, it is lie in most cases. Users have no data, no info what will happen or just ANY update for days. Owner of this company should be arrested and banned from business for rest of his life.

End of july:
My experience is really like that.
The Good (when there is no outage on Rootpal server(s):
server speed
excelent Plesk (instead of cPanel)
friendly staff (always helped, responded fast)
The Bad and the Ugly:
server went down for days
they had huge problem and took longer then expected / announced to recover data
Return back to Good
Since server is running again, it is very, very good. They promised to take steps to prevent such outage in future.

Service crashed for 6 days, and they deleted the evidence

Deceptive advertising is an understatement! They started really well and after convincing us to buy multi year package, their server went down for 6 days! Yes technical issues happened however they first attempted to not acknowledge the issue, it took them four hours to even say that the server is down. More importantly, they could have given their clients heads up that it’s going to be a few days of downtime which would have given the client the opportunity to re-point their website temporarily into a Park page, instead they kept giving six hour ETA’s which never were true.

After a painful 6 days, servers were back. They promised to explain what happened but instead they deleted all announcements and updates about the major disruption, hoping no new customer would notice. Honorable.

Don't do it.

From day one, customer support has been lousy. A typical response takes days, sometimes longer. At first, the service was fine, but now the servers are down frequently. In fact, the servers have currently been down for 3 days, which prompted me to write this review. I have heard very little from Rootpal with an explanation or update.

Terrible service

Terrible service. Their servers are constantly down, and support does not ever respond to give a response as to when they may decide to be back. It is embarrassing to have to explain to your clients that they have no business email or website, because the host has no servers to technical support.

You can't use rootpal if you want your sites to work... everything is down for almost 24 hours, mails and sites... they barely answer (if at all) both chat and tickets. It is the worst I have ever seen in my life.
I'm terribly sorry I bought this horrible service from appsumo.

VERY POOR, Purchase hosting from rootpal and then…

Purchase hosting from rootpal and then everything seemed ok. I purchased from appsumo. Then it started, I transferred all my domains over and one day everything went offline, websites, email, the lot. Reached out to them creating a ticket and was told My sites will be up in around 15mins, then 4hrs, then another six hours. Reached out on chat and was told it’s almost ready, should be an hour. It then went to the next day, still no sites. Customers emailing me about sites and here I am over 36hrs and all sites show server cannot be reached. Save your money and go to a good hosting company as I think this is run by kids that studied woodwork. Very poor and shocking service

DO NOT USE ROOTPAL IF YOU VALUE YOUR BUSINESS OR BRAND - THEY WILL RUIN IT!!!!

These guys don't know the first thing about hosting. It's excuse after excuse after excuse while consistently providing the worst hosting experience in the world. I would trust middle schoolers with setting up web hosting more than I do this company.

They will ruin you financially if you choose to use them. Sites are always down and it takes hours, if not days, to fix only for it to keep happening again and again and again. This week alone my sites have been down for 16 hours. 16 hours in one week. And this regularly happens. This isn't an anomaly. This is the NORM.

Stay away from this company. Gross incompetence left and right, from the bottom to the top.

Unreliable

Rootpal is straight up unreliable.
When it's working, it's great and cheap.
But that feels eclipsed by all the times it's NOT working.

I think I'm on my 4th server migration now? And their latest server upgrade has completely killed all my sites. It's been days now and no one seems to own the issue in any way. After 2 days they're still saying "maybe it's a DNS issue." Like come on now...I can't even access Plesk for the server, which has absolutely nothing to do with my domain registrar, yet this is the type of statement they're feeding me.

It's gotten to a point where support is unreliable and the responses are poor and no one seems to want to own the situation to ensure their customers are pleased with their service. Well guess what happens when customers can't pleased? They come here and trash the company.

Would not recommend Rootpal to anyone at this point.

Hi Matt,

Have these issues been fixed? Please create a ticket, we have upgraded your server to more powerful hardware to increase performance for our customers. Unforuntely it does require an IP change, but we are focused on improving speeds and reliability of our servers which sometimes requires server upgrades.

We do not plan to upgrade your server any further as we have purchased the best hardware on the market for the server you are on which include NVMe drives, and the current fastest CPUs.

Thanks

Trash—wouldn't use even if free

Website offline every 2-3 months. Then they got hacked and lost our website completely (incl. all backups). No reply to support tickets. Other issues with SSL, emails bouncing. Trash, wouldn't recommend even if free.

Knocking it out of the park!

I've been using Rootpal for reseller hosting services for a few years now.

I'll admit in the first 6 months or so the speed of their hosting hardware was really slow and unusable for me to resell to clients, so I stuck with it for personal sites while I waited for things to improve.

Eventually a discussion I had with one of the owners prompted them to move me over to their new NVME storage setup, at no cost to me, and this has made a night and day difference to the speeds and reliability!

They have also upped their game via their ticket support staff - I recently had an experience with "Beka" who was able to solve my issues in under 5 minutes while maintaining an excellent balance between professionalism and friendly banter.

I am looking at buying more services from them for new offerings for my clientele!

SCAMMERS NOT TRUST WORTHY AT ALL BEAWARE

Extremely unhappy lost trust as their site has been down since months even their emails bounces back. Their forms have been malfunctioned since months as well and they have remove chat support. They don't even bother sending you an advance notification if there are any major works going on. They even had there service down for weeks.

My experience after a year of use:

Outages in the order of hours are no exception.
Unavailability of services or support is standard.
Imagine putting your clients' sites here.
Their slogan from their site: "We provide you with a unique and unmatched hosting experience, delivering 99.99% uptime & 24/7 support" it is pure fiction and has nothing to do with reality.
Worst hosting experience I've had.
If you want to lose business and feel frustrated, order their services.

Edit 1.6.2022: After their promo video, nothing change, except one, they do not have only utages (almost a week this time), they lost data from they servers.

Hi,

I'm sorry you are experiencing outages and issues with your server, we are in the middle of upgrading the infrastructure to new CPU's and new NVMe drives for your server. The issues should be fixed as soon as the migration is complete. More information about this can be found here:
