Cat in a Flat merger

Rover has ruined the Cat in a Flat experience for both the cat sitter and the person looking to book.
The site is hard to navigate.
I as a cat sitter am now unable to contact a potential client as they hadn't booked prior to the merger going live. There were no issues with contacting prospective clients after they had made an inquiry as to your availability prior to this.

I would give Christina and her family 10 STARS!!!

Christina and her family could not be more amazing. They went out of their way to make us feel confortable with leaving our 2 mini poodles with them for the day. She was great about bring us on as a client even with short notice. We were only in town for 3 days and had an emergency and where in desperate need of a puppy sitter without having any time to plan ahead. We did research and luckily found Rover. We read the reviews and decided to reach out to Christina. She responded right away when I posted a message asking for help. We were greeted right away when we arrived by her and her little Bassett hound Tater Tot. We were so excited to meet them. Several times during the day she sent us pictures and updates. The puppies were having the time of their lives. We were so happy with her and her family that we decided to hire her for a 2nd day. Once again, we can't praise them enough for taking such great care of our boys. I wish we could give her 10 STARS!!!

Merger with Cat in a Flat

I’ve been using Cat in a Flat for around 5 years as a part-time side hustle, and until recently, it was an excellent platform. It was intuitive, easy to navigate, and made communication with owners simple. Over the years I built up a strong base of repeat clients, and the whole experience felt well-designed specifically for cat sitting.

Unfortunately, that’s all been undone since the merger with Rover. Rather than improving the platform, it feels like Cat in a Flat has been completely absorbed and replaced. The features and simplicity that made it so effective have been lost, and what’s replaced it is a confusing, poorly adapted system that doesn’t suit cat sitters or owners.

The transition itself was incredibly abrupt. Despite Rover owning Cat in a Flat for some time, there was no gradual rollout or proper support. Everything seemed to change overnight, leaving both sitters and clients struggling to adjust to a platform that feels ill-suited to their needs.

What’s particularly frustrating is how existing sitters have been treated. Many of us came across with years of experience, excellent reviews, and loyal repeat customers, yet that history appears to have been disregarded. Rover’s “Star Sitter” system seems to favour those already established on their platform, putting experienced Cat in a Flat sitters at a disadvantage.

It’s also clear that Rover is primarily designed for dog services. Cat care has very different requirements, and the platform simply doesn’t accommodate them well. On top of that, the pricing structure is far less appealing compared to the straightforward fees Cat in a Flat used to offer.

Overall, what was once a fantastic, niche service has become a frustrating and time-consuming experience. I’d recommend looking for independent cat sitters instead, as this platform no longer delivers what it once did.

DO NOT SIT WITH THIS COMPANY

This company is driving me mad.
I had started a week long 2x a day sit when it was still Cat in the flat, I was emailed to say I would be paid in 5 days, it didn't arrive.
I contacted Rover whos customer service may as well be AI as they just parrot their usual payment method (2 days after the booking end - including weekends.)
It's not been three days, nothing is showing in past/present/previous sits.
I don't see me ever seeing this money because I might as well be talking to a magic 8 ball with how helpful customer service have been.
I will be contacting trading standards if I have not received payment by the end of the week.

Rover was great for helping us find…

Rover was great for helping us find someone who helped with our dogs while my husband and I both work full time. We got a brand new puppy and when our schedules overlapped we used rover to hire someone to stop in and let the puppy out/feed him when we were gone. We were able to find someone who followed instructions, was great with both of our dogs, and made puppy training possible by helping us avoid unnecessary accidents and maintain consistent feeding schedules despite our overlapping work schedules!
