Warranty not honored and stopped responding to emails
I bought a set of rechargeable LED candles last November as a Christmas gift. They arrived quite quickly but when I tested them, one candle didn't hold its charge. I contacted Safield but they didn't respond. As it was Christmas and these were a gift, I gave them anyway and figured that I would get them replaced after the festive rush was over...
Fast forward to 1st October this year and 11 of the 12 LED candles have stopped working. I've contacted Safield several times and only once did I ever receive a response (so I know I have the correct email address): The single response I ever got came from a member of their staff and asked me for my order number.... As I wanted a quick resolution (before my warranty expired) I responded immediately with my full details i.e. warranty info, order number, address, copy of sales invoice, name, phone number - everything. No Response ever came back to this email.
I sent the same info again and again and again; I sent it to every email address I could find for Safield, including adding the staff member's contact info and sending F.A.O of him specifically. I even tried them via eBay and Amazon, where they also sell items occasionally. I never got any response.
Safield very obviously received my information because a Safield staff member responded once. It seems to me that when it became apparent to Safield that my warranty was almost up, they simply waited, doing nothing, until I had owned the item a year (so my warranty was up)... However in UK law there is a thing called 'The Consumer Right Act', which entitles everyone to a 'reasonable' expected life span for any goods they purchase; in law 11 months is not an acceptable lifespan for a £20 item that has received under 100 hours of use before failure. I've also been informed by Consumer Direct thst, as Safield were informed well BEFORE the item was out of warranty (I can prove this as it was done via a 'durable medium' i.e. email) I still have a legal right to a replacement or partial refund, so Safield evidently don't know the law, or possibly they simply expect the average customer to give up, especially on cheaper products, as it's too time consuming to pursue.
My advice: If you're considering buying anything from Safield don't use a Debit Card, because if it breaks, even within warranty, you likely won't get a replacement (or even a reply to your email). If an item costs under £100 you won't even be able to 'charge back' on your Credit Card - NEVER use a Debit Card online, EVER... Always use a Credit Card - at the very least you will have SOME protection from retailers like Safield.
It's my my opinion that companies like Safield give a bad impression of all Internet based shopping: they give people impression that web based shopping is rife with scammers and swindlers and that being ripped off is inevitable, but this really is not the case - certainly not in my 20 year experience purchasing from Web based shops anyway. Frankly, only TWICE have I encountered a company as poor as Safield. Maybe I've been lucky, I assume that experiences like mine, certainly with Safield, are not unique, but not everyone is like this. If you choose a retailer carefully, and use a Credit Card you will usually be ok.
My aim here was to tell others how bad my experience with Safield has been. It is my opinion that Safield's absolute lack of interest; their lack or reponse; their total ignorance of the law and their appalling behavior is disgraceful.
What I find most apalling is that Safield sought to have this review removed from TrustPilot within a couple of hours of it being posted! This proves that they are reading feedback and are actively working on their website, so why ignoring my requests for a replacement or refund? Protecting their image appears more important that actually performing to a high standard for this company. Safield need to sort their customer service out and stop flouting the law and ignoring the UK Distance Selling Regulations.
If anyone at Safield would like to correct this situation; to turn a bad situation around or at least try to restore my faith in their company, I am happy to talk to them. Joe Mullins very obviously has my emails as he had responded to me once... Come on Safield. Prove me wrong and I will gladly change my review accordingly.
