The cruise generally was great and the all inclusive side is good. Food was really good. There were a couple of areas though that impacted significantly on our enjoyment of the trip. Firstly when we arrived we had been signed up by our travel agent for the walking tours and we couldn’t change as everything was booked out. We spent a lot of time thinking about what type of cruise we wanted as the tours were important to us with me and my partner wanting active and my mum and dad wanting more of coach style trips without the waning. As a result we didn’t get the activity or the bike tours we wanted and there was no kayaking despite our travel agent saying there was. We were told quite brusquely that that was our travel agent who was at fault. For the next three days there wa panic anxiety and concern about getting into the tours we wanted a the boat was full to capacity because other rivers were too low. Whilst we understood that this was needed ie clients being transferred I think it’s pretty poor that additional capacity for tours Werner considers.
The other significant impact was that my mum and dad had flagged the hat they would require assistance when arriving and departing onto flights. Whilst understanding that scenic weren’t wholly responsible and British airways were great when they got to Heathrow- marseille was a disaster with mum pushing dads wheelchair into the airport despite her having had a recent broken hip and then when they were located into the airport special assistance area with a promise that they would be taken care of and that they would be wheeled to check in this didn’t occur and they subsequently missed their flight because no one checked them in and their tickets were given away, they then missed the connecting flight to Glasgow and the transport out of Glasgow to their home. They active 8 hours later in the middle of the night exhausted. This was a sad end to a pretty good trip all on all. Please consider through the fault excursions as it was stressful each day and sailing when we didn’t get one hat we actually picked a panic for. We wouldn’t do on scenic again for this reason
The did their best.
Sadly, not the cruise we expected due to low water levels. However we really enjoyed the trip. The staff were all tremendous, ensuring we had the best time possible. Will be using our welcome credit for a future cruise.

Entertainment needs improvement: some more classical music would help.
Overall, the cruise was excellent.

We enjoyed every minute. The facilities, the staf, the food were al exceptional. The organised tours and knowledgeable guides were excellent
Underwhelming
First time aboard Scenic Eclipe 2. High expectations following Scenic's claim of 6 star luxury. Reality did not live up to billing. On the plus side, staff service and organised trips were excellent. However, although the ship looks impressive from the outside, we found the interior furnishings and decor not to our taste. Quite drab really. Cuisine and wines in the restaurants was average. Entertainment was limited and repetitive. Overall, we felt that it was not great value for what we had paid.
Seamless transfer between boats due to water levels
Scenic handled the boat transfer during the cruise (due to low water levels) very well, with a seamless transfer of luggage. In addition, the changed port stops/docking locations allowed additional excursions to be offered which were interesting (the original excursions were also available, but some involved a long coach trip, which made them less attractive). As usual, the service received from staff on both Scenic boats involved in the trip was professional and friendly. The 'stand out' for us was the welcome we received on transfer to Scenic Amber, as we had been on a previous cruise on Amber earlier in the year and the staff remembered us.
The only reason that the holiday receives 4 rather than 5 stars is that the wait for the transfer to the boat at Munich airport on arrival was too long (just over 2 hours).
2 star experience for a 5 star price
2 star experience for a 5 star price. Look at other providers who will put u in similar accommodation and give you just as good experience, but for 40% less. This feedback based on land tours.

How to cope with adversity
We have had several river cruises with Scenic and each has been a memorable experience and the level of service impeccable. Our latest cruise was on the Danube from 12 August and a few days before our departure we were told that due to the low water level it was not possible to follow the published itinerary. We were give various options ranging from a cancellation with full refund or going with a restricted itinerary with a 10% refund. We decided to go, and although there was considerably less cruising we still had a wonderful time. All the Scenic staff from the booking team to all those on board went above and beyond to make sure our holiday was memorable despite all the difficulties which were beyond their control. Well done Scenic.
Used to be great now run of the mill
We have had several cruises with Scenic over the years. They were at one time an excellent company to travel with. We have seen a steady decline in the overall quality of the cruising experience. The ships are looking very dated and need refurbishment. A number service staff were clearly inexperienced and unable to cope with busy spells. We enjoyed the trip but no longer consider Scenic a 5 star experience.
So dependable
So dependable. First class service, friendly efficient staff, great itineraries. Have booked again.
Very disappointing experience when I became seriously ill
Very disappointing experience when I became seriously ill
I have always believed that the true test of a travel company is not how it looks after you when everything is going well, but how it treats you when something goes seriously wrong.
Sadly, my experience with Scenic left me extremely disappointed.
During my cruise I became seriously unwell and required hospital treatment. After returning to the ship, I was still very ill and needed further medical attention and medication. I was physically unable to make the necessary journey myself.
What has particularly upset me is the lack of practical assistance I received at a time when I was extremely vulnerable.
Scenic have since explained to me that my medication could have been collected by my husband or a member of the crew. However, this completely misses the point. I did not simply need somebody to collect medication. I needed to attend in person to obtain the prescription in the first place. Had I been able to do so, medical professionals would have seen how seriously unwell I was. I genuinely believe that earlier intervention may have prevented the prolonged illness and recovery that followed.
I was also told by Scenic that they would arrange my airport assistance for my journey home. I relied on that assurance. It was only approximately 48 hours before I was due to travel that I was told this could not be arranged and that I would need to deal with the airline myself. I only just managed to arrange the assistance in time.
Scenic have now formally rejected my complaint, explaining that their staff were following their procedures and that they do not consider that they failed in their duty of care.
That response is particularly disappointing because my complaint was never simply about whether Scenic had procedures. It was about whether, as a seriously ill passenger who was away from home and clearly struggling, I was given the practical support I needed.
I accept that there are safety procedures surrounding the wheelchair carried onboard, and I understand that emergency equipment needs to remain available. But when that equipment could not be used to help me ashore, I needed an effective alternative. I did not feel that one was provided.
This experience has left me questioning the level of care and support I could expect from Scenic if I were ever unfortunate enough to become seriously ill while travelling with them again.
The cruise itself may have had many positive aspects, but for me, how a company treats you when you are at your most vulnerable matters enormously.
I hope Scenic will learn from my experience and consider whether their procedures provide enough flexibility and practical support for genuinely unwell passengers, rather than simply relying on what their standard procedures allow.
1st class from start to finish
We went on a Mekong river cruise with Scenic and the only word to describe the whole experience is “Fantastic”. The food the staff the accommodation were absolutely 1st class. Our guides on the excursions were extremely knowledgeable and had brilliant humour.
