Don't try to get a mortgage with Clydsdale. 8 weeks of waiting with no update. Went elsewhere and got approved in a week. Shouldn't be allowed honestly.

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Can't rate them higher than 1 as I'm still in a queue after almost an hour trying to speak to their mortgage team. Utter amateur-hour incompetence. 18-month period ended 31 March 2025: Profit befo... See more

Useless organisation, avoid at all costs, passed affordability easy, waited 8 weeks for an update. Both my partner and I had pay rises in the meantime. To be told declined with no prospect of appeal... See more

Customer Service

Dear oh dear, some banks never learn. A good bank, good service, people to speak to instead of bots, and lots of useful information in communications.......
Then they sell out to Virgin Money who operate the Amazon model of customer service i.e., don't provide any.

I have been with the Clydesdale bank…

I have been with the Clydesdale bank for 30 plus years and have never had any problems with them. The Falkirk staff are excellent and always so helpful. I cant believe MY bank have treated their customers in this way after reading these reviews, its appalling and really feel for these people. I always go into my bank rather than online, maybe this is the problem ( bloody technology). If not, I hope they get things sorted or they will loose us all. I dont like the new virgin bank cards, I have to really look hard to tell the difference as I have 2 accounts.
I really hope Clydesdale are looking at these reviews and doing something about it.
SORT IT B4 ITS TO LATE

Been with Clydesdale bank nearing 8…

Been with Clydesdale bank nearing 8 years Infact my whole family were encouraged to join. Big mistake since you changed to virgin

Saturday, I Transferred money between my account with you, and a savings account with post office, as I had done many time before. On Sunday evening I Happened to check the PO one and no money there. Even though the virgin one had it, in list of transactions.
Tried to
call you, after chat wasn’t available. No 24/7 telephone banking. When you transferred our account to virgin from Clydesdale (something we had no control over) you did not tell us the list of problems we’d endure or the fact you would be doing away with 24/7 banking.
Once You find my missing money I will be immediately leaving.

If I could give this company 0 I would…

If I could give this company 0 I would but can only give it 1, I have won an employment tribunal due to missed wages which they held over me for 3 months, now I know 3 months wages might not be a lot but to a 22 year old who never changed their direct debit details as they relied on these wages when in black and white was told they would be paid was not, they have now paid me what I was due in April and had to pay probably thousands in court fees due to their incompatibility, so glad it’s resolved and i’m out of there, wanted to change banks as i’m currently with VM and always said i’ve had none of these issues so why are other people but now i’m refusing to move as I know it will get mucked up, hope no other 22 year old or any age employee needs to go through this with CB (VM) since they’ve changed.

Terrible service

Terrible service, on phone to Clydesdale Bank last night with problem using my debit card online, thought it was resolved, same problem tonight, trying to speak to an advisor on hold for 54minutes, problem still not resolved, Clydesdale Bank get your act together before you lose more customers, one fed-up customer.

Another customer leaving

Another customer leaving. I am a female pensioner and am horrified by the virgin m debit card. We are always told to keep cards inconspicuous for personal protection only to have a card which can be identified halfway across my local Coop. I am unable to find any support for vulnerable card holders. All questions go by default to the leaflet about new card. I want a card that does it’s job, not one, according to the image brief, that is ‘playful’. This is not a game of Monopoly. I won’t go on to keeping tabs online as to how much I actually have in my account, as the balance often bears no relationship to the payments in and out over a couple of days. Over forty years ago, I had issues with another bank and they pulled out the record of my account on paper, and it was settled in person. I do not want to go to a coffee shop for my banking, nor do I expect a surgeon to be doing open heart surgery behind a Perspex screen.

I went in to clydesdale branch in…

I went in to clydesdale branch in Galashiels to withdraw £10000 in cash and I was treated like a criminal given the third degree about why I wanted it and what I am going to do with it I replied it was my money and none of their business I had three staff gathered around me to hear what I had to say I eventually got it after being called into the office unbelievable

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! I recently made a chargeback claim for just under £70 and it was declined saying that they do not process any chargeback claims if you did not pay directly to the vendor. So any of you who don't buy your tickets DIRECTLY from the airline, book hotels via sites like booking.com or any other third party, this bank WILL NOT help you if you have any trouble. I am about to close all my accounts with them, they don't deserve my money. Took them months to even deal with my complaint. The lady even have the audacity to boast that there are "many people who we did not pay their money back to because they booked their airline tickets not directly with the airline". That's to show you how much they "care" about their customers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Take your business to a more reputable bank.

Total incompetence!

It's now over a fortnight since I had access to my 3 Clydesdale bank accounts. I've spoken to about 17 people, been promised call backs,... never happens. I'm told 'it's with their technical dept', so why isn't it sorted? I need to pay bills but no-one seems competent enough to help me. I'm given different reasons depending on who I speak to. I'm a pensioner dealing with this on my own, I've been in tears and the stress is making me ill. I really don't know where to turn.

Worst bank I’ve ever dealt with

Worst bank I’ve ever dealt with , take payments twice hold one then put it back which puts u into unarranged overdraft , when using ure card the payments shows then don’t show , release the held money for a day or two then take it back out so u never really know what’s going on with your account , I wouldn’t recommend them

WARNING!!!

This is not a complaint; this is a WARNING for other people.
In December 2020 I sent an official letter to Clydesdale bank that I wish to close my bank account I do not use for many years. They wrote me an email that they will do it and even promised to send me an official letter confirming closure of my bank account at Clydesdale bank. They did not reject me. If they wrote that it cannot be done, I would not say a word and it would be the end of the story, but they did not.
Later on, they told me that they sent the letter twice 16/1/2021 and 24/2/2021, I still got nothing from Clydesdale bank and today is 4/6/2021. When I asked them to send me the proof that would cover their story about sending the letters, they could not do it because such proof does not exist. They only told me that someone was watching one of their employees to put the letter into the mail box. I have never heard such a ridicules story and excuse in my life. Later, I found out that they did not do anything, but passed me few lies to get rid of me.
I am sending them emails every day and I also send many official complaints every day but they stopped communicating with me. Imagine, I only want one paper, an official paper, where it will be confirmed that my account at Clydesdale bank has been closed. If they cannot do that how they can help people with far more complicated issues? They cannot.
I am sure that Virgin Money does not care about any complaints or reviews or rates at all. I wrote this as a warning for those who are considering to open their bank accounts at Clydesdale bank or at Virgin money.
BANKS SHOULD HUMBLY SERVE PEOPLE, NOT TO RULE THEM!

No access to account online FLAWED system

Final update.
Eventually managed to speak to someone who knew what to do, got into the account, however there is a flaw.

When you log in you get sent a one time passcode to your phone. Now I work abroad, my wife lives in Scotland. When I am offshore I don't get a phone signal abroad, I can't access. I am not offshore all the time.

If my wife wants in she can't get in as the code goes to my phone. That means change over to her mob number so she can get the code, I won't have any access to the account. So to resolve, we will have to change banks as this system is terribly flawed. Actually, what a stupid system, sorry, but it is.

Such a pity after 30 plus years but this does not help the customer to do what you require it to do.

Been a customer for over 30 years, not sure how long that will continue.

I have been asking for my joint account to be shown when I go into the online banking. I am working abroad and have no idea what’s now in my account.

This is now day 5 FIVE,

After speaking to several people I have got nowhere as nobody can give me an answer.
Just keep getting the usual, should be back up running soon.

It’s absolutely hopeless and useless and yes I am very angry as it’s my money, my account and have zero access to it.

Virgin / Clydesdale sort it out today!!

UPDATE

STILL CAN'T GET IN AS BEEN INFORMED THERE IS A "FLAW" IN THEIR SYSTEM. I AM MOVING BANKS AS THIS IS PATHETIC!!!!!!!

Poor online facility’s.

They keep shutting the old platform down & then I can’t access accounts on new platform. I have to call every time & I am around 2hrs on phone. Then they close it off again & say it’s fixed & it’s not. It’s infuriating & very unprofessional that they can’t get it together. Clydesdale also can’t provide business
With a paperless statement service.

We have been with the bank for over 30…

We have been with the bank for over 30 years odd issues but nothing major.
In the last year it is shocking. Holding on the phone for hours. Told we were no 1 in the queue and still couldn’t get through after 45mins so gave up. They took the bounce back loan repayment from the wrong account putting us overdrawn and charging for each direct debit. If you can not contact anyone how are you supposed to sort it out.
Time to change banks.
