Scammers!

Scammers!

There was a photo on my phone that was important to me that wouldn't display because it was damaged.
So I contacted Secure Data Recovery, and I was able to speak with Daniel, who explained that it was completely free.
After several weeks, I was told I had to pay over $300 to recover the photo...
Without any proof that it was recoverable. The worst part is that they charged over $300 for a picture that could be restored in less than 5 minutes !!!

Thank you for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear you’re frustrated, and I’d like to clarify a few points.
Our diagnostics are always completely free and without obligation, which was the case here. After evaluating the device, we provided a quote based on the scope and complexity of the recovery — not the number of files, but the technical work required to access them.
No charges are ever made without approval. While the result may seem simple, the recovery process often involves advanced tools and time-intensive steps.
If you’d like to review your case further, we’d be happy to review the details with you. We appreciate the opportunity to help and want you to feel confident in the service provided.

SecureDataRecovery is a Life Saver!

SecureDataRecovery is remarkably professional and efficient. Outstanding service and turnaround time. I had accidentally deleted an iMovie file from an external drive, and the SecureData team were able to recover the missing data without problems. My confidence in their services started when I dropped off the drive at their contact office on 13th street in NYC; the staffer was polite and totally on top of things -- and the external drive was safely delivered to SecureData as scheduled. Shortly thereafter, I was contacted by Jonathan Nguyen and others about my situation and knew I was in good hands. Although I hope not to lose any more data (!), I will never hesitate to use SecureDataRecovery in the future.

My experience was very positive overall, highly recommend them

My experience was very pleasant (and fruitful). I looked at Yelp Google and especially BBB reviews. This company stood out with both the number of reviews as well as the highly positive reviews. I found them to be extremely professional, courteous, quick, and communicative. My agent, Jonathan Nguyen, was patient and terrific at explaining things. I felt like a valued business customer even though this was not a corporate job for a fortune 500 company. In the end, everything appears to have been recovered!! It was more expensive than I expected but I wanted the best shot I could get at retrieving my one of a kind photos. My files were returned on a WD portable SSD drive but it came with a USB A cable - not the USB C cable needed by my M3 mac ... easily enough remedied by a few more dollars and a couple of more days waiting for it.

SCAM!!!!! DISHONEST!!

I had a hard drive that was exposed to water for a very short amount of time. When I took it out of its protective case it had a small drop off water. I was sure nothing was damaged but just to make sure I didn’t try to turn it on and sent It to secure data recovery. Elliot guided me on the process and when they reviewed the damages they said it was so severely damaged by water it was going to cost 4,000$ to fix. The price was absolutely insane for me and I asked for my hard drive back. When received I took it to a local hard drive recovery. Upon inspection they told me it hadn’t even been opened by secure data and the drive had absolutely NOTHING wrong with it and was in perfect condition with all my files intact. Total cost for inspection, new drive and cloned flies - 100$. Secure data recovery is a total scam. They will lie to you about damages to get you to pay as much as possible. Disappointed by how they do business, especially when they are there to help with recovering irreplaceable photos and videos.

Price gougers

Price gougers - they responded to my initial query immediately and followed up a few times. Seemed good to me. I have a 4tb WD passport that simply stopped working as I was using it one day. Wasn't dropped/run over/deleted, et al.
They told me it would be as little as $400. I dropped it off at B&H in NYC. Two days later I received a call with pricing. $2600! I told them I was going to shop it and please tell me how to get my device back. They said fine.
Two hours later I get an email saying their lab had "adjusted the price" to $1200. Ha!
I told them I would go as high as $600.
They came back with a long note explaining their clean lab and what needs to be done, blah blah blah.
I told them to send it back. Which they did, for $45. :)
So, while they may be able to retrieve data, they are egregious in their pricing. Save yourself the trouble and don't bother (unless money is not an issue).
Buy a couple extra external drives and back up your stuff frequently so when these die, you can just toss them.

WATCH FOR SCAM

WATCH FOR SCAM

I have an 8TB Western Digital NAS that became unrecognizable by my computers after a power surge. After contacting Western Digital, they provided a list of data recovery companies, and I chose to contact Secure Data Recovery. The first person who responded was Jacob Medina. He immediately sent 5-6 different emails, trying to portray Secure Data Recovery as the best in North America. They were very insistent on getting me to ship my hard drive to them. After explaining the situation and asking for a quote, Jacob estimated it would be less than $500 to recover the data. Ultimately, I shipped my hard drive from Vancouver to their Toronto office.

Four days after shipping it, Jacob reached out with a payment notice of $3600 to $4700 (see attached screenshot). I immediately replied that this price was unrealistic and far higher than the initial estimate, and I asked for my hard drive to be returned. However, all my emails bounced, and no one responded (see attached screenshots). After a few days of this cat-and-mouse game, I found a phone number and called them. Someone named Eric Fisher answered and said Jacob was no longer with the company as of the day he sent the payment notice. After explaining the situation and the discrepancy in costs, Eric said there had been an error and that he would fix it. A couple of days later, he sent another email offering a $2000 discount if I provided positive reviews on their website, Google, and the BBB (see attached screenshot). I refused and asked for my device to be returned. They then became unreachable again.

This extremely frustrating process ultimately forced me to fly to Toronto in person to retrieve my device. A few months later, I contacted another company, and they fixed my NAS for $375 plus tax (excluding the cost of a new hard drive).

NOTICE: Watch out for this scam and do not send your device to this terrible company. They will lure you in with a low estimate, but once they have your device, they will raise the price to 5-10 times higher. When you refuse to proceed and ask for your device back, they will disappear.

Highly recommend this company

Highly recommend this company! After our hard disc failed we approached a different company to recover the data and paid £240 for them to tell us they could not recover the data! We then approached this company who offered a “no data no fee” service! And guess what, full data recovered! Absolutely amazing service from start to finish!

Can’t thank Mark Cooney enough

Can’t thank Mark Cooney enough. External hard drive crashed with years worth of data and memories that I thought I would never get back. Contacted Mark@Secure Data Recovery and the rest is history. Got 100% back. He made the whole process seem like a walk in the park. Mark explained the process and at the same time managed my expectations. True to his word all my data was recovered. He was very reassuring and helpful. Thank you Mark.

Effective and Fast

I contacted SDR to ask about repair/recovery options for an external hard drive I messed up. Tim Rutan facilitated a pick-up of the drive at my home and SDR began the assessment on it very shortly after they received it. Tim stayed in contact throughout the entire process, and answered all of the questions I had. He explained the process, the expected turnaround time and likely outcomes very well.

I was very nervous about sending my hard drive to someone I didn't know, but Tim put my mind at ease. My hard drive contents arrived on a new secure drive, and my defective drive was returned at the same time. As far as expense goes...the price was worth it to me. Was it cheap? No. Did they recover ALL except ONE file of mine. Yes. That's well worth the money to me.

The reviews speak for themselves. This company is legitimate and are top notch. I'll definitely call on them again if the need arises.

Wrong Business Model

The service was great.
The communication was good.
I just don't like the business model. The survey should be optional and should not be part of your business model. Because it felt like being forced. If Secure Data Recovery Services does a GREAT JOB, it will be 5 stars always. 3 or 4 stars are opportunities for growth and improvement. 1 or 2 stars are given by people who can't be pleased. That is part of the business world.

This company has stopped communicating…

This company has stopped communicating with us completely. We have reached out via email numerous times and have received no response. It appears that they have stolen the external hardware that we sent in. We accidentally sent our family members instead of the one we meant to send in because they look alike and were by each other and we just grabbed the wrong one. We informed them of this and they wanted us to send in the other one but they haven't even communicated or given us any information about the first one we sent in. So we decided to not send in the other one because they won't send the first one back or communicate with us about it. I just can't believe they would be willing to loose a customer who was willing to pay the amount to help us after we sent in the other one and
received the first one back. Just be aware you will be paying in the high ranges. Our quote was about $2000. So I wouldn't recommend letting the lower prices be an option to be honest. But we were willing to move forward but now we are not after this treatment.

We are going to look into how we can report this. I went ahead and had to file something with the BBB to help find a solution. I am sharing to anyone else to not use their services after this experience so your items, etc are not returned back to you. They stop communicating with you and reading other reviews it appears this is common occurrence. And reading other reviews on Google and on here loosing your data etc seems to be common hiccup that occurs. So make sure you read those because I also got caught up on the good reviews.

On their disclaimer it says if you don't contact them they can dispose of the media and if you refuse their services it's looking like they make you pay shipping costs to get your item back. This was not very advertised on their site or anything and the young man at the front store we dropped the drive at said they would ship it back to us for free. I thought with the good reviews not even just in Google but Trustpilot we had found a trustworthy company. I was so excited but now I am very upset.

Update I finally got someone on the phone who helped me out. I still had to pay 37.95 to get our family members external hard drive sent back to us. Which this isn't fully advertised. But the gentleman on the phone was polite. I'm not going to pull my complaint from the BBB unless I get the hard drive back as I've noticed in some reviews others have not received their items. I'm so glad we didn't send in the correct hard drive after this occurrence because it shows what we would have gone through.

TERRIBLE

Short story for now as my blood is boiling.
I worked with Jacob Medina. Process from 12/7 to today 4/12. We knew my hard drive had physical damage but I was told if the files i needed were not recoverable that I would not be billed.
The sent me a list of recovered files; it was a bunch of junk and nothing from my list of important files.
And today, they billed me $1500.
I hashed over the contract with them to be sure I was understanding it and that it matched what I was told. Jacob was incredibly slow to reply and then repeatedly flat out lied. This is the worst!!!
