SENTIA Spirits founder Professor David Nutt has been a pioneering force in psychopharmacology for over thirty years. He has published more then 500 original research papers and 34 books on a wealth of topics in psychiatry, from his early work in sleep studies to his more famous interventions in drug policy and the study of addiction.
As an expert on the ways alcohol interacts with the body and brain, Professor Nutt realised that he could isolate the mechanism we associate with the desirable effects of alcohol—relaxation, increased sociability & improved mood—from the negative effects, by developing an alternative that exclusively targeted the brain’s GABA system. Professor Nutt founded SENTIA Spirits in 2020 to bring functional alcohol alternatives to adult social drinkers.

This was SO not for me that I just poured half the bottle that had been sitting in the fridge for months down the sink and put the bottle in the recycling. Pointless. And very expensive. I suspect any perception of cognitive uplift is a placebo effect - because at that price it surely MUST be doing something?
It's even more pointless, and even more expensive, than that zero alcohol gin!

The products taste good and have the desired effect. Delivery is very fast and well packaged.

The relaxing feeling Sentia Red produces is nice but the taste is not good, even when a mixer is added.
Hopefully, taste will be improved over time as the product concept is great.

Like others here I became aware of Sentia spirits via the recent conversation between Dr Nutt and Dr Campbell. Intrigued, I decided to order a sample. You should definitely consider offering an "introductory pack" of all three variants, perhaps at an attractive price, to let new would-be users sample the full range. In any event I went for Red, and ordered a bottle which was delivered promptly, and wrapped in recyclable packaging. So how did it go?
Firstly, price. At £32 a bottle it isn't cheap, but might be compared to a designer gin which would be similarly priced. That said, much of the price of alcoholic drinks is tax so I'm assuming Sentia is still to reap the benefits of economies of scale.
Taste. I liked the taste of Red with a tonic mixer. It had echoes of mulled wine and Campari and was, in my view, a pleasant drink.
Did it "work"? Well... I'm not sure. I might be convinced that a slight softening of "the edge" has taken place, but I've witnessed similar effects at gatherings where an individual has been fooled into thinking they have had an alcoholic drink, when in fact they haven't. Placebo effect, in other words.
I'm slightly disappointed that there wasn't a more noticeable change in mood, comparable to a single G 'n T, say. I've read the caveats on individual responses, but if I drink a single G 'n T, I know I've drunk it, but with Red...? I'm not totally convinced about resetting receptors etc. From the same baseline, gin and Red produce noticeably different responses in me. Perhaps there is scope for a "full fat" or "Navy strength" Sentia product?
Edited to add.
Several people have reported longer restful sleep after drinking Sentia. Me? Woke up at one o'clock and didn't really get back to sleep again.
Further edit.
I've tried on a couple more occasions, but still nothing.... In desperation, I added a shot of gin to a Sentia/tonic mixer and that did the trick.
Perhaps a double-blind tasting might yield some quantitative insight. Happy to participate!

I am a huge fan of Sentia Spirits. I'm thrilled to have finally found a range of non-alcoholic drinks that not only taste fantastic but they DO also make you feel so relaxed and chilled too. I love both Gaba Gold and Gaba Red (haven't tried Gaba Black yet). I do like alcoholic drinks, but I really wanted to find a healthier alternative. I've been telling all my friends about Sentia!

I am completely won over by the Sentia product range.
There is simply nothing else in the functional drinks market that comes near to the product.
Coupled with excellent customer service results in a truly 5 start experience.
If you haven’t tried the Sentia range yet, I would strongly advise to start now. I would be surprised if it doesn’t become a part of your life!

Love Sentia.
Lovely taste and a nice, relaxing feeling. Am loving having an alcohol alternative.

GABA Red is my favourite. It literally switches off overthinking, you feel relaxed but focused. Everybody is loving it. Tastes fabulous, flowery and misterious.
GABA Gold is the most similar to a beer, orangey and spicy, gives you a lighter head, makes you chatty and the bonus is: vivid dreams at night!
GABA Black taste is AMAZING, strong and edgy. Can't really feel an 'effect', but it is so good, even without mixing it. Perfect for a break during the day.

We have tried gold, red and black! the ones that have come up top is Gold for my husband and Red for me! He likes his Gold with crushed ice fresh orange, peach and melon juice with a piece of fresh fruit popped in! I like mine with Red, crushed ice, tonic and fresh fruit! They are lovely and refreshing at the end of the day and it is good to know they have no alcohol but make you feel relaxed!

I think what Sentia are doing is amazing, any products that help people to reduce alcohol intake are worth supporting. I didn't believe that Sentia would have any effect on me. I love the taste of all the flavours. I was also very pleasantly surprised to find that Sentia does make me feel more relaxed. Fantastic, keep up the good work.

I've tried sentia gold and it was great - a fusion of an uplift in mind, overall relaxation and an effortless but noticeable cognitive boost. It is subtle in comparison to alcohol, there is no intoxication, just elevation. I felt quite joyous and playful, definitely one to enjoy in company. It's a social enhancer for the teetotal! Alcohol drinkers would probably not notice it, suspect they would be looking for the wrong thing, but exactly what I want - a lift and relief without any associated loss from intoxication.

They're producing a delicious drink - I love it with 250 mls tonic topped up with sparkling mineral water in my gin glass. A lovely alternative to g&t. Well protected and prompt delivery.

Red - Really nice flavour and has a lovely rich sophisticated almost wine like quality/ritual feel if mixed in a big wine glass with tonic, it kind of fizzes up, looks and tastes like a rich treat.
Effects are subtle but there, like having one glass of wine.

Interesting flavours and a subtle mellow and happy buzz when you have 2 or 3. Definitely a good option if you're trying to cut down on alcohol
