So far so good!
I am very grateful for the help I have had from Chris Bowler at Skybound Wealth Management. I have been working with Chris for about 6 months now and he has been very helpful and responsive to my needs - initially in the explanation and setup of different savings and investment vehicles, and then in helping me move some of existing savings out of South African rands, and into a more stable USD based savings vehicle. It is still early days, but so far I am satisfied with the support I have received and have enjoyed working with Chris.

Products with high charges and commissions
Similar to other negative reviews I was recommended to invest in was an RL360 offshore pension product with extortionate fees and commissions (there is plenty of literature in books and online on how bad these products are). For this investment to make any decent return over its lifetime the market has to perform exceptionally year on year due to the high fees continually being deducted from the account. I managed to get out after surrendering approx £11k. When I had asked my advisor at Skybound about the fees and commission on this product (after much delayed response), he advised to retain my money in the product. If you have invested in similar products, take the hit and close any further payments. Overall I felt Skybound was not looking after my best interests and was happy to sign me up to bad products for a nice commission. As an expat, it goes without saying you should do your own due diligence as these advisors seem to target those who are not well versed in investing.

My Senior Advisor Simon Athwal has been my Financial Advisor for a number of years now. And I have seen my finances grow in these years. His advice has been to have a mixed portfolio with varying years of maturity. Be patient in the early years and have quarterly reviews.
