Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 177 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the service seriously flawed, with frequent issues like freezing, loss of sound, and black screens, making the user experience frustrating and unreliable. The equipment, particularly the Sky Stream puck, was often criticized for not working properly, crashing, and failing to wake up from sleep mode. People also reported problems with the app and website, including poor integration and features that did not function as expected, such as the playlist not storing programs or remembering watch positions. Some people were dissatisfied with the product's inability to record programs and the short pause duration, which they felt was a step backward from previous services. Additionally, issues like lip sync problems and the skip ads feature breaking other streaming apps contributed to a generally poor opinion of the system.

Streaming is extremely unreliable

Streaming is extremely unreliable. Cannot watch what you want when you want. Forget about ever watching a BBC series ever again unless you watch live. Also missing episodes on some players.

One day after sky stream installed and not happy. Broadband speeds varying wildly, just watched the last episode of the Girlfriend and picture freezing, snowy throughout, this didn't happen once with Virgin Media. Why did I switch from Virgin Media??!, anyway recording all speeds and unless I hear from Sky asap I'm leaving.

Horrible - don’t do it !

Massively regret getting tied in to Sky stream. I’m not very technical but have never had problems like this. Prompted to write this as just trying to watch the news and there is some subtitled war film on the channel (says it’s the news still though)!! Have eventually had to reboot the whole system to get it sorted. Response is so slow everywhere, just getting the TV on takes around 30 secs. The adverts are a nightmare and mostly for gambling sites which is crazy. Even if you put something in your play list you have to sit through so many adds just to watch it back (because it’s not recorded) Sound goes out of sync with programme and I miss so many Channels and ease of use with Sky Q, it’s really difficult to navigate. Once I have some time to look at how to get out of the contract I will. It’s hideous - don’t get it.

I’ve been a SKY customer for nearly 20 years

I’ve been a SKY customer for nearly twenty years and was very happy with the service while using the dish-based platform. Unfortunately, my experience deteriorated markedly after moving to SKY Stream.

Since switching, the SKY puck hardware has required frequent restarts typically every other week and exhibits a range of problems:

Intermittent freezing/hanging

Poor picture and sound quality

Failure to start at all, requiring multiple reboots

For clarity, my home setup is not the bottleneck: I have 1.8 Gb fibre broadband and enterprise-grade routing, and all other streaming devices perform flawlessly. I have two SKY Stream boxes and both show the same behaviour. By contrast, my Apple TV box works without issue.

Given my long tenure as a customer, this is disappointing. I’d like to remain with SKY, but I’m considering alternatives once my contract ends unless we can stabilise the service.

Could you please:

Arrange diagnostics and confirm whether this is a known firmware/hardware issue;

Offer replacement pucks (if appropriate) or an engineer visit; and

Advise on remedies such as a bill credit, early exit without penalty, or an alternative platform if the problems persist?

If helpful, I can provide account details, device serial numbers and example dates/times of failures.

I appreciate your help in resolving this so the service meets reasonable customer expectations for reliability and quality.

Dreadful experience

Dreadful experience. They simply cannot be bothered to improve that UI. Audio goes out of sync, the whole UI is sluggish and freezes randomly, channel switching is sooooo slow (takes a few seconds, although we have a great internet connection), the remote is cheap and not ergonomic, the whole interface is so unintuitive and annoying. Arghhh! Oh and they're so greedy - asking more money for anything (for instance if you wish access from a second device), instead of just respecting customers by providing a decent, non-money-grabbing experience.

Sounds good but actually it’s a horror fest.

It’s just a clunky and at times unreliable system. We have a 900mb internet connection so we know that’s not the problem. Often the screen goes quite dim. The menus are a nightmare. I could list all the problems we’ve had but I also have a life. As soon as we can we’re moving back to Sky Q which was very reliable and easy to use.

Watching football is dreadful

Watching football is dreadful.

It’s like you are fast forwarding numerous times during a game.

I know it’s not the internet as the puck is fed by Ethernet and we have 1GB.

When contract is up - this is goodbye. Bring back Sky Q as Sky Stream is absolute trash.

Oh and don’t get me started on subtitles - what a disaster.

JUST SHOCKING STREAMING SERVICES

Cant believe how bad this service is i’ve had x2 pucks in 5 weeks haven't bothered getting a 3rd it jist a waste of time.
Sky need to sack it full development team because this sky stream is not an option. No one is good as any of the other platforms constant dropouts sound synchronisation problems in the hardware itself failed on occasions causing me to factory reset.
I have massive amounts of download speed 900mps plus most the time independence apps like Netflix Disney+ Apple TV or work phone.
Now tv it’s also a massive problem. Can’t believe after all the year sky has been in the industry. They can’t get the basic sorted the only decent service they have involves a massive dish on the outside of your house. Avoid avoid at all cost.
Fully cancelled service 3 months into contract without any fee’s is the only plus to come out of this bad experience

Think twice before getting sky stream

I agree with all the other reviews I experienced the same issues glitches, freeze frames, out of sync and constant resetting of the puck to get it to work and keeps dropping connection. Not worth the agro sky need a new version of the Q and bring the price back down to match that of the stream customers are being priced out of keeping the q system and forced onto the streaming service because they have invested so much into this, but its not fit for purpose they should be investing in better equipment before bringing it to market. They have lost many customers im sure because of these simple and fixable issue with better equipment. No doubt someone at sky is sat behind a desk asking why they are loosing so many customers...if they were to read the reviews online they would get a true reflection as to why.

Genuinely don’t bother

Genuinely don’t bother. I read the reviews prior to purchasing and still decided to go ahead knowing that you have a cooling off period of 31 days. I cancelled, the system does not work, you cannot watch live tv for more than 2 minutes without it freezing and only way to get back online is to turn everything off at mains to reset. If the system simply did what it says it would be a great product. I wanted to keep the system desperately but I am at the end of my patience.

Read this before signing up for Sky stream.

I have been a sky customer since the introduction of sky plus and have always had a good viewing experience. I have gone over to sky stream and its a different story. It either freezes, turns off or picture goes black. I have to unplug it every time a wait for it to restart which is not a quick process. I am having to do this several times a day and sometimes several times during an hour programme. GO WITH SKY Q!

Useless CSM team.

Useless CSM team.
A simple linking of the account has shown how useless this team is
The customer service team have no idea of how that team operate.
Each time you are told they will complete it in 3 days.
It has been 6 days and now they have no idea of when it will be completed
When I saw how poor they are on here I fully understand how unprofessional it all is.
Official complaints count for nothing as they get so many.
May have to leave Sky for good

AVOID SKY STREAM!!

Do not get sky stream! I got it in March 2024 and for 5 months it was awful and they didn’t fix it. One day I plugged my landline phone in it ( I was told I didn’t have a landline) and it started working! Since April this year awful again I’ve had “an engineer booked” then a month ago no active engineer booked. I they don’t care and since it’s coming to the end of my contract it’s like they can’t be bothered. Avoid!!

Sky stream puck

I run 4 sky stream pucks. I regularly get issues and outages with these devices especially at first. It took a while to recognise that I needed a wider broadband connection. Sky was unable to offer a faster service so terminated my contract with them and moved back to virgin media who could supply the needed gigabit broadband to my house. That solved most of the problems, but I have had to replace two of the most used pucks as they just gave up the ghost. On top of that I get at least one “technical fault” a week on at leat one of the device's, requiring a reset and password re entering. This in itself is not hard but very annoying if this happens whilst watching something. Today I have had to perform 2 hard resets on my main box and is becoming more regular. I believe that these puck are not well made or robust. would move completely away from sky if I was not contacted to them and had a equally good steaming content alternative I would move but sky has cornered the market here. Conclusion poorly made stream box’s that overheat easily especially in our current warm weather. Going to try a small fan to blow air on it.

Stay away from Sky Streaming

Can’t wait until my contract is up. Sky Streaming is sold on the basis it’s simple and easy to navigate and record movies. Was told the playlist was were you record movies. I didn’t take up the sky movies package but when you record a movie on BBC or other channels they re-direct you to their Sky Store to pay for that movie even though you pay a TV licence. They never tell you this at the time of purchase. Also, if you record a series you have to pay to skip the ads. Be very careful when you purchase Sky Streaming. They take you’re money sell you something it isn’t and hold you to a contract. Stay away from Sky.

Confused by the negative reviews

Really confused by some of these reviews my Sky Stream is working perfectly.

Sky Q for 10 years, decided to take the plunge because we never record anything now and always stream and was offered a better deal to take Stream.

From plugging in it was a smooth sail, userface takes a little getting used to but after a couple days it’s become second nature.

Picture quality is brilliant, so much better than on Q and syncs perfectly to our Sonos arc so no lip sync issues unlike I had with Q.

Playlist is great for putting all the shows you want to watch, from all the different apps like Netflix, paramount, sky etc in one place. This will also series link them and they will appear in your playlist each time the new ep airs. This is not the same as the record feature on Q though, you are not recording but you can set the show from the planner to download, similar to setting record on Q. You can also setup multiple playlists and each family member can have their own.

You can also pause, watch, and restart from beginning live tv. You can also keep track of where you are upto with your shows so you can pick up the season where you left off.

I’ve not experienced any lag or buffering issues but I do have 1gb fibre broadband so maybe this helps.

All in all very pleased with the stream, but it won’t be for everyone especially if you depend on recording and storing onto the Q hard drive. Plenty of YouTube vids giving a full overview of the stream if you are unsure.
