Staff were very friendly and the train was clean. The lights were dimmed on departure which made having a sleep easier. Several seats appeared to have been overbooked, including my own, which caused... See more

This is a follow up to yesterdays review.
My wife and I are now on the return leg back to Euston from Fort William.
At the start of the journey, we liaised with Greg, the Service Leader in the restaurant from FW to Edinburgh.
He has followed on from yesterdays experience and has made it extra special for my wife and me by authorising a complimentary evening meal and breakfast for us.
Please pass on our heartfelt thanks to the whole team but in particular, I would like to single out Greg. You have a very warm and truly genuine personality.
You have been superb throughout both the northbound and this, the southbound journeys.
Thank you.

Wonderful experience travelling from Euston to Inverness with my friend.
The classic twin was spacious enough for two golf travel bags and two small overnight bags.
Mattress was comfy and the food in the buffet car was exquisite.
I will be travelling with you again this summer

This was the third time we have travelled by Caledonian Sleeper. The best thing is that it gets us to Inverness early avoiding daytime travel, albeit at a premium cost. Significant niggles this time- 1. No hot water (not even lukewarm) from the en suite shower. 2. The oven wasn't working in the galley so we were unable to have the cooked full Scottish breakfast, one of the best aspects of the service.

A fabulous experience from start to finish!
Worth going club for the lounge and priory dining.
Dining staff on way up to Scotland was particularly welcoming!
Look forward to doing it again some day!

What are all these ludicrous dishonest reviews? This is not a good value for money way to get to and from Scotland for a start!
I can post emails of how great the back office staff are! However see when your on the train the staff are well not employable by the council to be frank! Rude rude rude and when you challenge they threaten to throw you off?
Caledonian Sleeper is frankly going into bankruptcy! It's obvious! No maintenance of cabins no maintenance of the trains and they hire quite frankly brutal ex convicts! For something it's supposed to be an experience! It certainly is if you wish to experience prison life! You go to the club car and the train manager is sat there with his feet on the chair and stating an itch! I will leave that to your imagination!
Then the next train manager gets on at Preston and is even worse! Pay peanuts get monkeys! Yet charge £875 for a round trip! Needless to say I did not return I paid extra with another line from Euston and it was fabulous! A big shout out to the back office staff at sleeper! However your complimentary trip was more of a disaster than when you gave it to me in the 1st place!
Anybody reading this please just fly! Or get the train direct to Euston or kings cross and god forbid your disabled! I can show you the messages! To them disabled people are lepers! Pure and simple! It's a good job all stations have CCTV!
Save your money and AVOID! it's not the equivalent of the Orient Express it's the equivalent of Benefits street!

A very personable experience, beds are comfy, a great way to travel and get to the highlands

Box ticked 😁 I was so looking forward to this! It didn't disappoint 😍
The cabins are really small and cramped, with no space for luggage. We were in a twin bunk with en suite.
It was loud, and NOT a smooth ride. But we slept really well and woke up to amazing views.
Breakfast was served in the cabin as a lack of staff but we took it to the dining car and ate there.
Special note to all the staff who were great 👍

We think the sleeper train is a great value, as transportation and lodging in one! Our kids had a great time and the plush train was a really fun surprise for them. With a sleeper train you expect very small quarters but I feel like the Caledonian does their best to make sure it's as comfortable as possible. My only criticisms (the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) are 1 - that it would be nice to have a timetable in the compartment of expected stops - the new stop and long pause in Birmingham was unexpected and unfortunately woke the kids up just as they had fallen asleep. And 2 - that it feels very rushed at the end of the line in Inverness. The screens in the hall said we were running late, but then we actually arrived early and felt like we had to vacate very quickly. If you are going all the way to the end of the line, a little extra time would be nice.

Buyer beware- do not be seduced by influencers or train enthusiasts. This is an expensive way to get in to Scotland
Pros
- a great way to get in to the highlands overnight- if you can sleep- 3 out of 4 of our party didn’t
- in long daylight hours- the journey to Fort William is super in terms of scenery
Cons
- unless you’ve upgraded to the sleeper lounge- the waiting area at Euston is inadequate
- you may not be able to access the the bar-diner until 10 pm - the train leaves at 9 15 pm and access is determined by what portion of the train you are in. Don’t be surprised if you can’t sit down
- thereafter you’ll be more or less confined to your compartment
- the compartments are cramped for someone of average UK build. The sink is adequate for a strip wash if you can balance as the train meanders through the highlands
- breakfast is a waste of money- the sleeper relies on branded heritage foodstuffs. You’ll be handed something in a paper bag
- bring some toilet paper- our shared loo was out of paper 2 hours before Fort William
- the train crew are well intentioned but struggled to deal with a non routine customer service issue
- not all passengers are good natured- be prepared to meet some very rude people
- if you are travelling to Fort William, the journey back to Glasgow by service train takes 4 hours. We were on a busy Saturday train- 2 carriages- 1 toilet- 2 hen doos with the toilet being used for vaping, loud music being played and our other customers being being subject to banter
- we also encountered the Scots women who’d booked a seat for herself and another for her bags. She would not give up that seat despite other customers were standing with toddlers
Interesting but not for the faint hearted

The staff were all professional and kind. I'd give 5-stars, but our key card for our room never worked...First a staff member had to let us in. Since the card still didn't work, a staff member then had to lock our room for us when we left for the club train car as we couldn't lock the room ourselves. Then, sometime in the middle of the night, the door began locking again. This meant my husband went to use the restroom and got unexpectedly locked out of the room and had to get a staff member to let him back in since I was sleeping. I felt badly for having to constantly get staff to attend to us when they shouldn't have had to do so. Nevertheless, they were gracious and wonderful throughout the electronic issues that were beyond their control!

Lack of storage space, especially on the top bunk. The bedding was so tightly tucked in, it was difficult to free off, especially in the confines of the top bunk. The ladder was fixed, thought it would be better to slide along as this made access awkward, and reduced space to sit on the bed. The rungs onbthe ladder were quit thin and hurt to use in bare feet. The breakfast booking was unclear that to fix a time you had to go into the restraunt car and book in person. Instructions indicated you only needed to hang the order on the door. It was also not clear that breakfast in the club car was only for 30 minutes, then you had to go back to your room.

The room had alot of broken elements. Some cosmetic some functional. There is a gap underneath the sink that looks like there should be a table, the toilet lid had duck tape on it to keep it together and the nearest usb socket didn’t work. The blind didn’t close properly meaning the sunrise, though beautiful flashed in your eyes. Though the eye mask provided helped this.

Good travel experience. Would have like a little more info on where loos were and how to be prepared on night in the sit up seats. Thankyou

Comfortable bed, lovely staff, clean, perfect for travelling to Scotland with my Labrador.

Row 11 is cramped with very little leg room. The internet did not work at all and the bathroom was broken. All unacceptable.

Club compartment is small but comfortable enough. Nice bedding. Food service was not good. Staff not very friendly or helpful. They got irritated when we asked for an additional cup of tea at breakfast. “ Highland breakfast” was stale, reheated food. Disappointing for the price.
