Bali Mental Health
I completed the Bali Mental Health placement in 2017 and it was honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made.
It was a great way of gaining cross cultural mental health experience in lots of varied different projects. One of the highlights was when I had the opportunity to work in East Java in my final week in a Psychiatric facility. The work was inspiring and the opportunity to run therapeutic activities in psychiatric facilities was incredibly valuable and gave me a wider appreciation of working in this field.
The training and the support we received was all top notch. Really good! The staff were all patient and encouraging.
Final mention has to go to the weekends! You work hard through the week but the weekends are yours to explore, there is so much to do in Bali. I climbed a volcano, swam with Mantra rays. Unbelievable!

Best decision I have ever made!
After I graduated from my BSc psychology degree, I really wanted to travel and do something memorable but also do something worthwhile! I found SLV after a quick google search and decided to apply. I was nervous but they quickly put me at ease and I decided to go for 12 weeks! It was an incredible experience. I became so connected to the families we lived with and the community, that it was lovely to call Sri Lanka home for 3 months. I gained so much hands on experience with vulnerable service users, and you can tell that the sessions made a difference. After the experience and gaining that extra confidence, I decided to apply for a Masters. I hugely recommend SLV.Global to anyone thinking about applying.

Just go for it!
I joined the SLV.Global team as a Peer Mentor and spent 12 weeks volunteering in Sri Lanka and I loved every minute. I had only just graduated and I really loved the variety of the projects. The projects taught me so much about working with different people within the mental health sector and living in the local communities meant that I learnt so much about a new culture. I was really nervous about volunteering so far away from home but the SLV team were so supportive and everyone helps you to feel at ease - if you are thinking about going I would recommend just going for it!

Great Psychology related experience!
I spent 12 weeks volunteering in Sri Lanka after I graduated and at first I really didn’t know what to expect. Overall, the placement was well rounded, and I gained an insight into how mental health is treated in a different country and got the opportunity to work with so many different types of service users. My homestay family were so welcoming and I made friends for life with other like-minded volunteers. I can’t recommend the placement enough for those looking to gain psychology related experience!

I was really able to develop my skills further, work in another culture and make some lifelong friends. My time in Sri Lanka will be memorable for all of the right reasons. I would highly recommend applying today!

Learning about Mental Health From A Global Persepctive
I spent 12 weeks with SLV as a new graduate looking for experience before starting my career. It was an incredible time and taught me so much about myself, the culture, and mental health on a global perspective. I couldn't have hoped for a better three months volunteering with such an great organization!

So good I did it twice!
I volunteered with SLV.Global in November 2015 with no idea of what to expect, but I was not disappointed. I was able to gain a variety of skills through the psychology hands on work experience by running activities with people with mental health issues and special needs but also teaching English within the community in Sri Lanka. I felt well supported by the staff from beginning to end and enjoyed the experience and cultural immersion so much that I wanted to do it agin, so volunteered with the team in Bali where I did the same thing! Doing the two placements not only allowed me to help those less fortunate than myself, but also provided me with enough experience to be accepted onto a Master's course. I would highly recommend this company to anyone with an interest in mental health, particularly those who are looking to pursue a career in psychology and mental health.

Amazing company for hands on experience
Couldn’t have hoped for a better 6 weeks gaining psychology work experience abroad. Worked on such a large range of projects and gained so many hours of experience whilst making a difference to those in need in Sri Lanka. Support from the company was there before, during and after my placement - definitely recommend them if looking to gain some hands on experience in a completely different culture.
