Unexpected costs be careful

I june this year (2022) i reported a fault with an appliance.
Initial communication & service was excellent. I got regular updates, dealt with the same person & found the very efficient & friendly.
This deteriorated after the 1st repariers visit who advised it was beyond ecomonic repair.
The case was then passed to the replacement dept to source a new appliance. I was then advised they believed it could be repaired & decided to send another engineer to take a look.
It was deemed repairable but parts would be required. After sever weeks i was advised the parts were delayed as they were being sourced from China.
I got a weekly text message stating they still hadn't arrived but they would be in touch when they did to arrange the repair. In fact i am still getting the texts now.
After several more weeks i was infomed that the parts were actually obsolete. I do not understand how i could have waited 6 - 8 weeks for parts that were so called delayed in shipping when they are obsolete. How could they have ever been ordered.
As a replacement now needs to be sourced i was informed at this point that i would be liable for some of the costs. The cost of the repairer would be taken off the value i could spend on a new one & i would have to pay the delivery & installation costs which they advised was over £200.
When i took the policy out it was on the understanding it was nee for old, how can delivery & installation NOT be included in this.
Having sent many emails to try & understand this all i kept getting in response, regardless of the questions i asked, seemed to be a standard one which was no help.
So to replace my appliance has actually cost me which is what i was paying insurance for to avoid this.
Check what you policy covers & excludes carefully before taking a policy out

Would have given 5* but for delay

The staff were helpful & polite. After claim approved (same day)slight hiccup with processing. The repair company arranged date & time when the engineer would arrive. On time and solved the problem 1st attempt. Very informative man.
