Thanks so much to Niluphor and Punam for being excellent.
I strongly dislike seeing a dentist, but had my first visit here after not seeing anyone for 15 years, and the people that treated me couldn't have been better. Thanks so much to Niluphor and Punam for being excellent. I really appreciated your kindness and professionalism. Thank you.
TitleTitle: Extremely Distressing Experience with Hygienist Appointment
I registered as a new NHS patient at Southcliff Dental Care, Dale Road, Southampton, in January 2026. During my initial review, I was advised to book a filling and a private hygienist appointment, for which I paid £150 in total (£75 each).
Unfortunately, I had to cancel my hygienist appointment on 15 January due to symptomatic low blood pressure. Although I informed the practice the same afternoon, I was told I would lose the £75 unless I provided medical evidence. I attended my GP the same day, submitted a documented BP reading, and was later instructed that it had to be uploaded onto the NHS App instead. After following all requested steps and waiting for the NHS App update, the practice rescheduled my hygienist appointment for 12 February during a lunch break slot.
When I attended the rescheduled appointment (having travelled 30 minutes with my unwell two-year-old child), the hygienist informed me—after I was already seated in the chair—that the appointment was “not approved.” Instead of proceeding with treatment, I was questioned extensively about my previous illness and cancellation. I felt that the tone was accusatory and dismissive, including comments such as “I don’t care about your profession” when I attempted to clarify the situation.
After approximately ten minutes of discussion and no treatment, the appointment was cancelled while I was still seated in the chair. As I was leaving with my child, a dismissive remark was made instructing me to take my daughter.
At reception, the situation escalated further in front of other patients. The interaction felt confrontational and distressing. My child became frightened and cried continuously as we left the premises.
Despite paying £75 and complying fully with every documentation request made by the practice, I received no treatment. I left feeling humiliated and deeply disappointed by the manner in which the situation was handled.
I have formally raised this matter through the appropriate complaints channels. I hope the practice reflects on how this situation was managed, as patient communication and professionalism are essential in healthcare settings.
The current NHS dentist is very poor…
The current NHS dentist is very poor his work is second rate left me with a poor finish and toothache following a routine filling replacment.
Well done.
Had a bit of a problem at Southcliffe dental in Shirley, but once i had a phone call from the manager, everything got sorted and I was pleased with the outcome in the end.
Thank you.
Terrible
Terrible, I would rather pull out my own teeth than go here, from the receptionist to the dentist it was an awful experience. My most recent gripe is that they won't see me in an emergency...gum infection but apparently they can't deal with that.they are a pointless waste of space.
Recommending this practice
This is our dental practice for a few years now. They went through some hard time, but I and my family never had any issues or cancellation. Our dentists have always been nice, explaining everything, procedures were complete professionally. Today I was with Dr Jay and cannot recommend him enough. He was very kind, professional and gave me responses and options for future treatments. Reception team was great too. I would recommend the practice.
Unprofessional, uncaring practice.
The staff of South Cliff Dental Group (based in Handcross), part of Steyning Dental care, misled me concerning their policy of not performing treatment on a first visit, both the receptionist and dental assistant insisted that initial appointments were exclusively for check-ups. I had contacted them to request resolution for a suspected infection that required an early intervention. I later discovered from the dentist that this only applied to new patients, however, it was known that I had been a registered and regular patient for 17 years. Whether or not this misinformation was imparted through design or ignorance I couldn't determine. Furthermore a number of emergency appointments were set aside on a daily basis, but I was neither offered one of these nor referred to a hospital or clinic for treatment. I visited Crawley Hospital and was given antibiotics and the opportunity of an extraction to relieve the symptoms, and charged the basic NHS rate. I later visited South Cliff having accepted the earliest appointment that had been available, and despite this consisting of a mere 5 minute recap of my visit to the hospital, in order to update my records, I was charged the full initial rate. I raised a complaint with regard to my dissatisfaction, and despite numerous emails, telephone conservations, a referral to NHS Sussex for intervention, and the threat of referral to the Dental Ombudsman, the complaint has not been fully resolved in over 11 months. The Handcross practice has now closed indefinitely, although this news has not been transmitted to its patients.
It would appear that the Steyning Dental Care group exists solely to maximize profits, and that they provide no duty of care or welfare to their patients, but treat them with disregard and disdain. I would suggest that prospective new clients think very carefully before registering with this provider.
My Dentist Fatima and her assistant are…
My Dentist Fatima and her assistant are the best! I am the worst most nervous patient and I’m so grateful for the care I receive every time I have been to the surgery for treatment. Fatima is kind, caring, knowledgeable and gives the best advice and sings beautifully when I had my fillings to distract me! I am so grateful for her patience with me and how they made me feel relaxed and supported when I was struggling. I have a lifelong dentist fear but now I am able to face it with these amazing ladies. Thank you so much, see you in July!

Brilliant dentist
I went for tooth extraction today in Broadstairs. The dentist was very reassuring and the procdure was pain free, in fact i did not know she had finished.

They chase you to change reviews
They chase you to change reviews. That's the reason I am posting it here. All the Google reviews are absolutely bogus. You post one negative review, and you can expect them to call to try to delete or change it.
Not a Clue.
Unprofessional. My daughter 1and I signed up and gave them a try. I think it's a family enterprise. A young teenage girl was on reception, chewing gum with mouth open. Did not have a clue how to greet people. We waited in the dull empty waiting room for a little while. When I finally went in, the elderly 'dentist' (who was pleasant), explained that she couldn't do and treatments, only look! Unfortunately, my daughter fared worse - her 'dentist' said she needed a clean, and was very rough. She left in a lot of pain, and was charged an exorbitant fee for it! Since then, they have hounded us both to make another appointment - including calling early on a Sunday morning !
Awful customer service.
I visited the dental practice in Gosport to register my family, primarily because my 5-year-old needed to see a dentist. I was advised that we could get a family appointment, and the lady asked for my details to schedule it. On the day of the appointment, I called to reschedule because a family member was unwell and was told that the appointment was only for me, and if I didn't attend, I would lose the chance to register with the dental practice. I requested to transfer the appointment (scheduled for 10 AM on December 31, 2025) to my son's name, who actually needs the appointment, but the lady, sounding quite grumpy, insisted that it couldn't be done. When I asked for her name, she said she wasn't required to provide it.
Amazing customer service!
I am so impressed with the customer service I received at this dentist. The two ladies in reception are amazing and go above and beyond.
Thanks so much for your help!
Poor treatment fees eventually refunded.
My wife and I both had treatment in December 2024 at the Eastleigh branch. While I would rate my treatment as satisfactory, my wife's treatment was very poor.
We registered as NHS patients and after a check-up up we were both treated by what we thought was a Dentist, it subsequently turned out that we were treated by a clinician who we subsequently discovered is not a properly qualified dentist. This was not made clear to us in any way throughout the dealings with this dental practice!
My wife was told that she needed a filling on a back molar as well as two other fillings and that they would all need to be a white fillings which would be a stronger filling, which would not be covered under the NHS so we would have to go private, and this treatment would cost £450, and there was no alternative offered. (We now have established that the two smaller fillings could have been done under the NHS)
After some 6 months, we registered with a dentist closer to home, who X-rayed the tooth and this showed that there was decay inside the tooth that had been filled and that the filling would have to be redone.
Southcliffe Dental Practice (SCDP)disputed this, refused to refund the money, and offered to fix it; however, by that stage our we had lost trust in the practice, so we refused to go back in fear that more cost and poor treatment may occur again. We demanded a refund as the work would have to be done again by a dentist we trusted. They argued and contradicted themselves when we sent a copy of the X-ray showing the decay, claiming that the decay was new, which, of course, it couldn’t be within the relatively short time since the first treatment.
After delaying for as long as possible, we had to resort to telling them that we would take legal action through the county court SCDP finally agreed to refund the £450 we had originally been charged. They delayed the payment for as long as possible, claiming that the payment could only be made by” head office”. To our knowledge, there is no head office. They promised payment by a certain date and then nothing happened, again we had to threaten legal action if the refund was not done by a certain date. Finally, the refund, some 6-8 weeks later was completed.
To conclude;
I will now always ask for the qualifications of anyone who will be giving us dental treatment.
I do not believe that SCDP have a head office and that it was a way to delay the refund.
SCDP could have resolved the complaint much faster if they had any sense, and my wife and I would not be posting this review.
How interesting that they can take payment immediately for your treatment and take many weeks to refund!
I would advise everyone to avoid using this practice. My wife has kept all emails in relation to this matter so she can substantiate what transpired.
Very friendly staff and always…
Very friendly staff and always welcoming and happy to chat to you. My new dentist Mehan and Vicky were very patient and caring and explained exactly what was needed to do regarding my teeth. Therefore I’ve booked next week to proceed with my dental work. This was my local dentist here in Southcliff, Westbury in Wiltshire with easy parking and good facilities.

Awful anxiety but Fatima and kerry were amazing. Kind gentle and reassuring explaining all the way. Thank you best dentist that iv ever seen.
Great Team, No Nonsense
Dentist Mehak Fatima and Nurse Charlotte were honestly brilliant. No fuss, no drama — just got on with the job and did it well. Mehak was clear about what she was doing and made the whole thing painless, and Charlotte kept everything running smoothly and made sure I was comfortable.
