Great sailing holiday in NW Spain

Tom, the skipper, made our sailing experience in Spain a memorable one. He prepared a great itinerary that included the famous natural reserve of the Isles Cies and the vibrant town of Vigo. Tom also introduced us to some fantastic restaurants in the region, and we think he also arranged for some amazing weather.
The St Marta is a great sailing boat that offers plenty of space for the four of us. We were lucky enough to get to play with the sails.

A well thought-out, diverse itinerary, knowledgeable skipper and a great boat.

We had a good mix of time on land and at sea, and we were given choices at every juncture to shape the trip to our liking.

A highlight was a visit to the Attis vineyards. The views from there were incredible!

Above all, what really stood out for me was Tom's willingness to involve us in the sailing, his patience in [literally] showing us the ropes, and his encouragement for us to have a go at the helm.

I reckon you'd feel just as much at home if you are looking for a hands-off leisure trip or a bit more of a hands on action adventure.

A wonderful experience in an unspoilt…

A wonderful experience in an unspoilt part of Spain! I had never sailed before but was reassured as soon as I went on board - Tom is an extremely competent skipper. He is very happy for you to help crew the boat - but if you prefer to just sit on deck and enjoy the Galician scenery, that’s fine too.
I was surprised how varied and interesting the Rias Baixas area is. As well as stunning coastline and sandy beaches, there are towns full of amazing historic buildings. We started in Combarro, a pretty village with narrow streets, famous for the large number of ancient stone granaries and sea houses you can see there. The trip ended in Baiona, its medieval town centre bustling with bars and restaurants serving delicious local food. Both places have marinas with excellent mooring plus clean modern shower facilities nearby.
I travelled alone but everyone in the group was so friendly that I immediately felt at home. KMT are excellent hosts and had thought of everything to make the holiday a memorable one. I’d definitely sail with them again!

Highly recommend this trip

What an amazing experience sailing in the Rias Baixas region in Galicia, Spain. Brothers Ed & Tom from KMT Sailing ensured our trip was full of fun & adventure. I have a great memory of my life jacket inflating whilst dancing with Ed on deck! Tom’s sailing
expertise gave us total confidence. The holiday was relaxing but allowed us to get involved in as much or as little sailing as we wanted. Similarly there was much flexibility in where we sailed allowing us to explore the exquisite villages on this coast line.
We could go for a run or a walk, swim from the boat or beach, explore the Galician architecture & visit local restaurants enjoying the speciality wines & foods including a variety of shell fish.

Accommodation was superb – exceeding my expectations!

I would highly recommend this trip if you want to experience something completely different.

And husband, Charles, writes:

On board the yacht this month with Ed and Tom proved to be one of the special moments in life. Being mainly a dinghy sailor myself, It was fascinating to see how sailing and navigation systems have developed in recent years. As a holiday, what a winning combination -
sailing around this gorgeous coastline with enough time each day for mountain hikes, coastal runs, beach swims and local restaurant dining in the charming company of fellow crew members. Ed and Tom provided a level of seamanship and local expertise to ensure
that every day we were treated to the best that this enticing part of coastal Spain has to offer. If you don’t try a trip on board with KMT Sailing you are missing a rare treat!

If you fancy an adventurous break KMT…

If you fancy an adventurous break KMT tours offer the ideal solution. Brothers Tom and Ed are working to open up this largely non tourist part of Spanish coastline to anybody who enjoys sailing and hiking. The Spanish Rias offer plenty of small ports to explore as well as sheltered anchorages.
We found Tom a very experienced skipper who was happy to let the crew get involved with the technical side of sailing. This suited me but other crew members were happy to just take in the view. Toms fluent Spanish was useful as few locals speak English. Both Tom and Ed were flexible with the crew’s requirements so the holiday can be virtually tailor made.
Altogether a very enjoyable week which l would recommend to anyone with an open mind and sense of adventure.

Just returned from an excellent week…

Just returned from an excellent week with KMT. Tom and Ed's knowledge of the Rias was great - they have various small towns where the boat can stop overnight which were interesting to look around. We mainly walked when not on the boat, this part of Spain offers plenty of scope. We had several lovely overnight anchorages in places that were stunning with swimming straight off the boat. Tom's years of experience skippering was evident, from briefing, safety and the ability to teach anyone wanting to improve their sailing. He let anyone who wanted to helm or crew, get involved or was happy if you sit back and enjoy the view! We were a mixed group, some we had not met before but everyone got on so well and this for us, added to the holiday. This holiday is for people who want a bit of an adventure, perfect if you love the outdoors, like visiting beautiful Spanish small ports and walking - your options are limitless and Tom and Ed's approach to "go with the flow" allows flexibility. I would definitely recommend and go back again.

Incredible Galicia sailing tour of Rias Baixas!

I've recently returned from a holiday which was unlike anything I've done before, or anywhere I've ever been before - I went sailing around the coastline of the verdant Rias Baixas region in Galicia, Spain. The KMT sailing team are amazing hosts and know the area like the backs of their hands. They can introduce a complete novice (like me) to the joys of sailing or enhance a seasoned sailor's skippering experience.
The beauty of this sailing tour was the flexibility it afforded - for example choosing a sheltered bay with a gorgeous remote beach in which to overnight at anchor. We awoke the next morning to a sunrise over the calm sea and hilltops - just one of many priceless moments I experienced.
Our sailing vessel had well appointed, comfortable cabins; a bathroom with hot running water; a kitchen with big fridge, USB charging points all over the place plus Bluetooth audio for music sharing on deck and in the cabin. So whether on land, where every marina we moored at provided top notch amenities, or on the boat, it felt like a world of luxury!
As an active holidaymaker I was keen to spend time on land for the running and hiking opportunities: and where there are inlets of water (reminiscent of lochs or fjords), then there are fingers of rugged coastline terrain between them; when you are moored in a harbour, then you are never far from a town-exploring shoreline run. With an uninterrupted 5G connection throughout the whole trip I never lost access to map apps, but equally had a lot of fun following my nose and taking paths that looked more interesting and seemed to go in the right general direction.
This is still not everything - there was plenty to find when we were seeking gastronomy, history, antiquity and tourist-y stuff - it didn't have to be all about the action, relaxation was found too… and this was no better demonstrated than in the wine tasting visit we made to a local ‘bodega’ called Attis.
This team is unlocking an absolutely awesome part of Europe that previous to this trip I never knew existed - I literally cannot wait to go back!
