I'm giving this five stars because what's in this library is quite good. I really like SA's brighter, glassier take on woodwinds as opposed to Orchestral Tool's Berlin series, which is generally darker and wetter (they're both great btw). Looking forward to checking out the Professional version. Also, this library is great with other dry libraries like Chris Hein, Bernard Herrmann Orchestral Toolkit, and even the EW Hollywood series (when writing a quintet, try adding the EWH French Horn, it works great). Cons? I'm not happy that not all the instruments are ensembles, and I see that isn't corrected with Professional. I think this library should rock a 2.0 version in the near future with those ensembles. Still, as I mentioned, the very sound and ease of use with this dry library is good enough for a five star review from me.

The overall sound is great, and to mix these essential instruments in with the wetter libraries, I just slide to the far perspective. I’m not crazy about vibrato on clarinets, and their sound is rather hard. I’m a clarinet player, so maybe I’m a bit sensitive. Unlike Tundra, I didn’t spend hours with Studio Woodwinds after I downloaded it. This kit is a bunch of necessary articulations and parts to fill out the orchestra, without having compromise patches grouped with other instruments. It gets a lot of use, for sure.
Outstanding production. The sounds are incredible.
Very nice library, May upgrade in future.
Sounds great, and for the price . . . Amazing value
Great sounds.Easy to use and a clear idea of why this library is made.
I bought the core Studio Woodwinds two week ago and upgraded to Pro six days later, as I really liked the sound and playability. I was looking for an instrument covering what I consider idiomatic woodwinds: fast runs and flourishes and “romantic” lyrical solo lines. The studio recordings, vs. the hall, provide clear recordings and a very agile set of instruments. The studio sounds fits woodwinds well and provides just the right amount of room in the core microphone. I can play fast lines and quick ornaments without any blurring all while having fine control of the instruments. The solo instruments and legato work well and sound good. Vibrato is controllable and subtle. For solo legato playing, I add a bit reverb, as that sounds more melodic to me. The additional microphones are nice but do not make nearly the difference the similarly-named microphones do in the hall. Still, adding a bit of outrigger and/or ambient does subtly widen and warm the sound. I appreciate the multiple mics and use them all. I’ve added the studio woodwinds to my core template.
It's great to have the Studio series completed with these woodwinds. This is a no-nonsense orchestral line. Very little tweaking required, if any. Load things up, set your controllers and reverb (if you like), and make music. That simplicity and freedom is sometimes hard to come by with VI's. One thing to bear in mind is that the woodwinds, and the strings and brass, are all geared towards *ensemble* playing. This is a true symphonic setup, not a collection of soloists. Upfront, exposed, hyper-expressive solos would be better served by other choices, although the close mic options in the Pro packages may provide some more flexibility there. I'll be upgrading the whole orchestra to Pro at the first chance I get. Thanks for this "new chapter," Spitfire.
I love everything spitfire.
Really nice sampling and programming. Quality product!
Kinda new to this, eventhough these woodwinds’ quality cannot stay hidden! Really satisfied!
