Bought my Tivoli from Lynx Garage in…
Bought my Tivoli from Lynx Garage in Yeovil. When my car developed a problem that I told them about, 9 months later they had still failed to mend the problem after several attempts under warranty. Having got fed up, I put my vehicle into a local garage, to have the problem diagnosed within 5 minutes and sorted within 20. Upon ringing Ssangyong, I was advised that they had been told the car problem had been sorted. Was so happy with the vehicle itself, but this sort of service prevented me from buying another one and we went else where.
Charters Reading new Tivoli SSANGYONG
Just purchased our new Tivoli from Charters in Reading, Kevin from sales was so helpful and efficient, a real credit to the team. Ordered the car on a Thursday picked it up on the following Wednesday, all admin and 0% finance all sorted. The car is great, so many gadgets and great VFM, well done team Reading (Kevin/Ian)
Where to start
Where to start, I have for some 10 years supported the Ssangyong brand, firstly because the Rodius could carry my two large dogs and two kids with relative ease, but thereafter the story is one of woe and more woe. Also I live in the North West of Scotland (and before that on one of the HebrIdean islands). The bought as new Rodius was effectively written off after only 8 years, it was riddled with faults from the first day, three new air conditioning units, multiple tracking problems with the four wheel drive system - literally eating tyres every 3000 miles, electric seat faults, rust problems, brake calliper problems (all four – twice), brake and disc replacement – every 20,000 miles, foot operated parking brake jamming on – numerous times, the list was endless and the cost astronomical. Throughout this there was NO local dealer so on top of the down time was £100.00s of travel to the nearest dealer cost – who were all pretty dire of which the worst was the Ssangyong dealer near Aberdeen (more on this later), Ssangyong GB were truly awful to deal with back then and unfortunately are just as bad now .
However in 2017 we saw the new Ssangyong Rexton ULTIMATE with its new design and very misleading claims in regard to a 7 year warranty and we bought not one but three throughout the family, these were bought from the Plymouth dealer (who are the only good Ssangyong dealer in the country as far as I can tell and we have spoke to a few about service and warranty support) but again the woefully poor warranty service from Ssangyong GB was evident from day one. These are brand new 40K cars with a seven year warranty so you would expect some kind of reliability – NOT A CHANCE!!
The cars are 2019 on a 68, 2019 on a 69 and 2020 on 20 plate and every single one of them has had faults ranging from ABS module failure to Urea system failure (Both stop you driving the car to the nearest dealer which is 160 miles away), camera failure, Gear box clicking, AC discharging – every six months and most worrying the finish on the 20 inch wheels on both cars “peeling off”. All the cars have done very low miles – mainly as were scared to drive them in case they break down – again.
The other problem is the time it takes to get anything done, months for a warranty decision (peeling wheels), and weeks for parts – almost everything a warranty repair needs and a truly AWFUL, Ssangyong GB customer support and service process which seems to just ignore the problem.
Lastly and to my shame we bought the Rodius replacement a low mileage 66 plate Turismo ELX, what a nightmare, same caliper and foot brake problems, same disc and brake problems, even worse air conditioning problems – this time it took 9 weeks to fix and even then the Aberdeen dealer didn’t fix it correctly – it had to go down to Plymouth- all at my cost!! Of course no compensation from Ssangyong GB, intermittent cruise control fault, failed rear springs – after only 35,000 miles, front drive shaft sensors failing (another few weeks off the road), Air conditioning that needs recharging every six months and so on and so on endlessly!
In conclusion I think Ssangyong GB are useless, the vehicles are middle of the road at best in terms or reliability (these are no Toyota or Honda) and the dealer network after 10 years is no better at all, and although a number of Mitsubishi dealers are now bailing into the brand as Mitsubishi have pulled out of Europe, the Ssangyong GB service will still be awful and the new dealers will have little technical experience of the brand so expect weeks of delays in getting any warranty work done.
Ssangyong failed in Korea for a reason, they’re not great cars just average-at best and the distributor in the UK seems to be raking in profit from cutting down the spec of UK cars, delaying any and all speedy warranty repairs (AND CONSTANTLY REDUCING THE WARRANTY COVER ON GOING) and the dealers are mainly all smallish, lacking in support/loan vehicles for the sheer volume of warranty problems with the brand/cars (Plymouth accepted) and sometimes cannot take in warranty work for weeks or even months. I worked out that the Ssangyong products we have will spend about 6 -12 months off road waiting for warranty repairs during the warranty period.
I asked Ssangyong to buy these vehicles back via their face book page, needless to say they simply removed the post and did not contact me. FINAL ADVICE – UNLESS THE SSANGYONG DEALER IS 10-15 MILES OR LESS FROM YOU AND THEY CAN LOAN YOU A CAR WHILST YOUR SSANGYONG IS OFF THE ROAD (OFTEN AND FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS) THEN DO NOT BUY!!!

They have not responded but the garage B.V Rees of Cardigan looked after me well always had good service from them , they took a part off another car which they had in stock and fitted it to my car just to get my car on the road. Thanks B.V. Rees for your help. As for ssangyong i will never buy another Ssangyong again.

had a letter back in November informing me that my car has a recall on it

would I recommend your services?????
certainly not
Well built vehicles I’ve had one for twenty one years
Having owned a Ssangyong Musso for over twenty one years Decided after it finally gave up on us after giving sterling service to replace it.
Being a full time carer for a wheelchair bound relative need something with a big boot for scooters and wheelchair short of buying a minibus nothing came close to the old MKII Musso in boot capacity so went back to Ssangyong getting a Musso MKV pickup truck and putting a hardtop on the dealership bent over backwards to get 99% what we wanted on it only thing they forgot to do is contact the mobility modification company.
Sadly due to the current situation I have not had many opportunities to drive the vehicle
Found Ssangyong customer service great some time back complained about a local dealership Chalk hill Bedfordshire our vehicle being old it turned out they were robbing Peter to pay Paul as the mechanic had the same model as did the owner it took them two months just to get a fuel filter when I asked another dealership told could have one in three days found out he had changed the sump gasket ( I took it to my garage after I found oil on my drive they found it had been folded) even though not even supposed to touch it so rang Ssangyong to complain got a very rude call back from the owner of the dealership at the time.
The loan car was so bad even a scrap yard would reject it Ssangyong rule if you need a loan of a vehicle you get one to the same spec as your own.
Not long after this we drove past and noticed no new vehicles, as I wanted to get some parts for the old Musso rang Ssangyong whilst talking asked about Chalk hill told we terminated his agreement as we were getting too many complaints about them so they do listen to customers.
Having read one negative review saying that they could not get hold of Ssangyong’s head office are they blind go on the website and look under contact us and you will find the email and the old fashioned postal address and a phone number which I recent used wanting some information about a 120w (10amp) 12v socket In the load bed most are half that on calling Ssangyong I spoke to a very cheerful and polite young lady who said she would pass my enquire onto the technical team and someone will get back to me turned out due to the current situation she was on her own it is bad enough being in lockdown with a family member to talk to at home but in an empty office fair play for sounding so cheerful made the call worthwhile.

Ssangyong Peterborough (Whittlesey) Atrocious service quality.
Ssangyong Korando sport is a great value car for the money. When I change mine next year I will have another Musso pick up, without a doubt. You can't beat the spec and quality for the money BUT , as with other reviews the service and repair side is atrocious I took my Korando Sport to Ssangyong Peterborough (Whittlesey) had a full service and MOT it's done 15,000 miles only. I was charged Full price for the service being a main dealer which I accept, although if I took it locally I could of had it done for a third of the price. Then on the way home from the dealer it broke down, went into limp mode making a horrible noise. I luckily had a tool kit with me and on further inspection found the main breather pipe hadn't had the jubilee clip done up, so it had fallen off, not allowing air to be forced into the engine. Once again I am a field service engineer myself, we all make mistakes, so apart from being annoying at that moment, they apologised verbally and said they would contact me, which they never did. Then today only about 700 miles later my brakes started making a horrible noise, and the pads are worn out, so now I have to replace pads and disks after 700 miles of a major service. Where they hadn't even noticed the pads were worn, and if they were could have been replaced before the discs were knackered. Makes me wonder what else they missed or didn't do. Terrible service . Will try Norwich next time, and I sure as hell won't go back there in January when I am in the market to replace it with a new one.
I love my Korando SE4 2015..
I love my Korando SE4 2015..
It's not the best for comfort and handling sure but I got mine with only 18k miles, fmdsh and still smells new for the price of a Tucson the same age with over 130k miles. (best I could find within my budget!)..
Updated and upgraded to 5 star as I have done 12k miles trouble free so far! :)
The worst customer support I think I…
The worst customer support I think I have ever experienced. We purchased a used Korado 6 months ago which still had the balance of the manufacturers warranty. On 22nd December the gearbox failed and it was recovered to the local dealership. Since then nothing but fob offs. Yes we have had Christmas in the way but in over 2 weeks nothing has been done. It is a straight warranty issue, yet the warranty department are now saying they want to send out an engineer assessor to warrant the cost. What is the point of offering a warranty if you are not happy with the cost your own dealership charges for works to fix the faults. I have this afternoon called to make a complaint - you have to put it in writing. Customer Services claim they do not know the number for head office, and will get a Regional Manager to call me but not guarantee when that will be - all the time I am still without my car - and for some time by the looks of it. To top it off - no courtesy cars available!
Once this is sorted I will of course be happy to finish the story and if satisfactory to comment as such.
SSANGYONG REXTON GREAT VEHICLE
Ssangyong Dealership in Cardiff is poor, never buy your SSangyong from Tanners, it’s service department waiting area is dirty, cold and hard seating.
This would be a five star rating as the car 5 stars, however dealerships that sell them are basically letting down the brand of this remarkable vehicle.
After owning a Tivoli for 3 years and…
After owning a Tivoli for 3 years and not having any issues these cars are much underated, they are very good value for money reliable and comfortable the dealerships are not as common to find as the larger car brands but have had good service from those that I have encountered.
I recommend a test drive of a Tivoli or new rexton both excellent cars.....
Have a drive you will love them.
Good cars don’t Get swayed by old reviews they are very good reliable vehicles excellent 4wd systems and excellent for towing. They have a good network backing them up. Good warranty. These cars are real value for money recommend to all to at least have a drive in them.
Catch the bus
I have driven some bad cars but the Turismo has to be the worst. I suspect the steering is connected to the wheels with bits of rope. It will seat 7 people just feel sorry for the poor sod that has to drive it.
Good points the seats and cup holders
Bad points everything drives like a tank and the radio might as well have an eight track on it. It’s not a nice looking thing either.
It drives and looks like a North Korean troop carrier.
very good product, poor infrastructure to support
In 2012 Ssangyong had a relaunch in the uk with great low finance and service warranty deals to entice sales....we bought from our "local" Ssangyong Dealership in Wolverhampton...after 3 years of faultless service from our local dealership we find they no longer support this brand for sales nor after sales....
on ringing up Ssangyong GB to ask where the nearest "local" garage, they inform us the nearest garages are some 26 miles away in Telford and Coventry....I ring Telford...service department doesnt open up for another 2 weeks and suggested go to the next nearest garage in Shrewsbury...46 miles away......I ring Coventry....they cant service the car for another 2 weeks!!! And now the company are promoting a new model the Tivoli....all I can say to people of the west midlands.....wait for a Ssangyong garage to be appointed first before buying (theres 11 kia and hyundai dealership closer than a ssangyong dealership!!
