Firstly let me say the dealership I have dealt with have been great. Unfortunatley the backing they revieve from Ssanyong/KGM is deplorable. This company will not reply to complaints, not even to supply details of their ADR.
The TMO, took 6 months to pass the book to the dealership. Fully impartial apparrently!!!
So two wheels replaced within 2 years on a car purchased new as they started to peel. Within a year the replacement wheels started to peel as well as after three years all wheels where peeling. Wheels are only guaranteed for 3 years, replacements are not covered by guarantee. The navigation/ Radio display has been replaced twice but still continually reboots, I gave up on this. So in a nutshell I would seriouly avoid purchasing this brand the attitude of Ssangyong/KGM is deplorable.
Costly and frustrating experience
I bought a used Ssangyong from a KGM main dealer. It catastrophically failed not long after purchase, major repair bills loomed. The car had a full main dealer service history, so I expected the warranty to cover the costs. I was told that prior to my ownership the last service was a few days over and the warranty was void. The service in question was while it was sat for sale on the forecourt of the main dealer I bought it from. KGM would not accept that the main dealer should have known this would void the warranty and serviced it while it was sat awaiting to be sold. I corresponded with the main dealer and KGM with no support from either, I've had to pay for the repairs myself, and I'm currently in dispute with the main dealer regards Consumer Rights Act - I'm taking them to the small claims court to hopefully recover the money. Meanwhile the Korando continued to breakdown, go into limp mode, warning lights on the dash with a variety of issues. I've now sold it and will not buy another KGM / Ssangyong.
I have reviewed my 2016 SSANGYONG…
I have reviewed my 2016 SSANGYONG TURISMO several times over the last 5 years or so and all of them have been 1 star, no change in this review as it has been more of the same. At only 54,000 miles this car is not old and we have paid out about 3K a year just to keep it running but the faults just keep coming. The driver side drive shaft needed replacing! With the bits that make this up @ £1400.00 fitted (non SSANGYONG so 20% cheaper), Skid control sensor @ £540.00 fitted (non SSANGYONG so 20% cheaper), Multiple suspension and spring breakage @ £2,000.00 plus over the last 2.5 years (non SSANGYONG so 20% cheaper), Multiple disc pad and discs- basically every 9 months or 3000 miles and it does not matter whether you buy cheap, average quality or manufacturer - this vehicle eats both. Leaking air conditioning system - don't even bother trying to fix it! A binding foot break - needs to be freed up every 4-5 months. The Callipers for the brakes – replace every three years irrespective of mileage at £1,000. 00 plus vat plus fitting if you buy from SsangYong. Worse any part seems to take weeks for delivery, and if you think SsangYong GB customer care is bad whilst the vehicle is warranty then it is a 100 times worse when out of warranty and in terms of the Turismo they just want that car to go away so they keep humping up the parts prices. I have finally managed to get rid of the Turismo as I don't need a car that size anymore and I must say it was a huge weight of my back and wallet. From what I hear KGM are just as bad or worse so my advice after almost 15 years of trying to support Ssangyong is run away don't touch them with a barge pole!!
Where do I start!
Where do I start, what a disaster my 2022 Musso Saracen has been. Bought the car from an independent dealer with 54000 miles on the clock, remainder of 7 year warranty and a service plan. 10 weeks after purchase Turbo failed. Waited 6 weeks for the main dealer YCC at Preston to even look at it, once they diagnosed turbo failure I had to wait another week for the warranty team to come back and state they would not honor the warranty claim as the first service was 7 weeks over the scheduled date, after demanding that KGM prove to me that the first delayed service was the direct cause of the turbo failure and they relented and approved the repair under warranty. Collected the vehicle 7 weeks later and 5 days later had major catastrophic engine failure. lost confidence in the vehicle and went back to original seller under CRA2015 and got most of my money back. Truck is still sat at the dealer. Truck went in on Nov 22nd 2025, collected on January 16th 2026, engine failed on January 22nd 2026. Zero comms off the dealer (YCC) or KGM Customer services after 3 cases being raised. Got my money back on the 20th March! Worst experience of car ownership in my life, disaster of a brand, stay away from these trucks and cars. I cannot stress enough, stay away from YCC at Preston and KGM, they do not care about you. Also I cannot at the moment cancel my service plan as they said it is in the T&Cs even though I haven't had a service yet or even own the truck anymore!!! Truly truly shocking.
no courtesy vehicle during warranty repairs
Turbo failed on Musso pickup after less than 3 years and fewer than 50000 miles... spent more than 5 weeks with KGM franchise garage awaiting parts and repair under warranty. Niether the garage nor KGM would provide a courtesy vehicle for any of the duration the vehicle was off the road, subsequently leaving me with over £2500 in hire car costs.
Complaint raised repeatedly with KGM who, when they did actually deign to reply or answer the phone, simply stated than not their policy to provide courtesy vehicle.
Now raising issue with Motor Industry Ombudsman and considering legal action to recover costs given that they promise ("warrant") that their products will be free of faults, and for 100000 miles/5 years.
I recommend others buy a Hilux or similar from a company that has the capacity and care to provide a replacement vehicle in the case of a major failure.
Don't even think about buying a…
Don't even think about buying a Ssangyong!
You can't get parts anywhere and for that reason local garages won't touch them with a bargepole. My Tivoli is a nice enough car but after- sales is non existent and if a fault arises you're absolutely screwed. Ssangyong GB are impossible to contact. Have a satnav problem and are going round in circles. Wont supply a new sim card under warranty but until i get a new card cant prove if its card or another problem.
UPDATE are now saying audio is only covered for 36 months, as problem started at 35 months Still wont cover it .
Cant even get a reply from them So much for customer service ????
Have now served small claims court action , see how that goes.
Have people noticed NOT once has KGM responded to any of the complaints/ comments. Total SILENCE !!! So much for customer care.
Then you gat a statment like this from the CEO
"Our brand promise is based on honesty and integrity, which is the foundation of KGM Motor UK's mission"
WHAT A JOKE !!!!!!!!!!!
Garbage Stay Away
222 Musso. Absolute piece of shit. Brakes done 3 times, at my own expense as the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. Immobilised in a garage forecourt due to a 'steering lock' warning light. 3 weeks off the road and now ready to collect from the dealer. Again at my own expense as good luck getting customer service to provide anything let alone answer the phone! Dealer is responsive via phone service manager with the dealer states it is a common problem i.e. the key and computer system simply lose contact. If this is a common issue why not fix it? Do yourself a favour and stay away.
Awful
There have clearly been no lessons learned from the failings of Ssangyong into KGM and the senior leadership team continue to act with impunity, selling vehicles with known defects and offering no support or even accountability for their failings. Stay away.
Appalling customer service.
Appalling customer service.
Ssangyong (now KGM Motors UK) are an appalling company with the worst customer service imaginable. For 18 months, we have tried to get the touchscreen/bluetooth/CarPlay/radio/head unit fixed and they are bluntly refusing to even engage with us after they failed to fix the problem. Although it is covered under the 7 year warranty, it seems that it is not worth the paper it is printed on. I have read (and also been informed by many others - both customers and those working in the industry ) that this problem affects lots of Ssangyong/KGM vehicles but they are refusing to give any kind of timeline for when this might potentially be fixed. Very bizarre behaviour and I would urge people to think very seriously about the extremely poor level of customer service that we have experienced before purchasing one of their vehicles. I have absolutely no idea how they are getting away with refusing, or failing, to repair new vehicles under warranty but they seem accountable to absolutely nobody. Just to be clear, this has now been going on for almost 18 months (since purchase) and, apart from a 2 month window where the problem was temporarily resolved (but returned immediately after a software update), we have been without a useable radio, bluetooth, CarPlay facilities ever since which has adversely affected our business. Disgraceful.
Also, be very wary of purchasing through a business as it leaves you vulnerable if something goes wrong. I have since discovered that we are not covered by the Consumer Rights Act, 2015 or the Motor Ombudsman. This is highly questionable (what difference does it make?!!!) and something I intend to get addressed and corrected in Parliament via my local MP.
I bought a Musso which I find quite…
I bought a Musso which I find quite acceptable however the service back up is poor. I have waited weeks for accessories and unless you keep phoning the dealership you get no help whatsoever.
The sat nav is faulty and freezes and the heater control is a law unto itself. Both reported, both not fixed at service or any visit. Wonder what you have to do to get value for money?
Without doubt the worst vehicle I have…
Without doubt the worst vehicle I have ever driven - thankfully its only a courtesy car while range rover is being serviced.
I cant believe people part with money to own 1 of these the ride is poor entire car has a cheap finish continuously bleeping for no reason and as for the steering its somewhere between comical and dangerous. I still wouldn't drive this car if I was given it for free
SsangYongGB EV car heating failure
SsangYongGB
Two brand new Ssangyong Korando E-motions - within 6 months the heating broke on both and was fixed under guarantee.
One year later the heating is broken again on both cars and my wife and kids are forced to drive around in a car with no heating when it's less than 5 degrees outside. Parts ordered 4 weeks ago and still not expected to be in before 15th Dec!!!
So far Ssangyong have done nothing to assist us and seem to think that us having 2 cars with no heating in the winter is acceptable!!
Be warned before buying one of their EV's
Huge let down in customer service
Sadly wish I had never bought a Ssangyong Rexton and urge others think very carefully before purchasing from this manufacturer.
The parts network is nothing like what you will be used to with a mainstream manufacturer, we are currently waiting 4-5 weeks for parts on our 2017 new shape Rexton (owned 5 years, done 70k miles) due to a failure with the front hub. Purchased vehicle with a 7 year warranty, which apparently counts for nothing as they don’t honour it, no courtesy car provided so paying hundreds ourselves to hire a vehicle. A couple of years ago we waiting months for a new set of wheels under warranty and again weeks for air conditioning pipes under warranty.
The customer service department has promised to call me back multiple times to address my concerns and complaints, I’ve had to chase every time as no one ever calls back.
If it ever gets repaired it will be sold straight away and replaced with another brand.
Don't even think about buying a Ssangyong!
You can't get parts anywhere and for that reason local garages won't touch them with a bargepole. My Tivoli is a nice enough car but after- sales is non existent and if a fault arises you're absolutely screwed. Ssangyong GB are impossible to contact and the whole damned company (including dealerships - because they know the score) is an absolute s***show 🤬
Ssanyong Trivoli Ultimate battery problems.
I bought my Ssanyong Trivoli Ultimate new in March 2022. Apart from a little sluggishness in acceleration the car was ok. As I am retired it sometimes sits in my garage for two or three days without use. This was not a problem until the weather got colder. The battery was losing it's charge and had to be charged up in order to start the car. I took the car back to the dealers who checked it out and said they could find nothing wrong with it. They advised me to use the car more as the Technology was draining the battery. I find it amazing in this day and age that a battery can be drained in such a short period of time whilst the car is not in use.
do not buy one.v difficult to get parts…
do not buy one.v difficult to get parts as no one else bothers to make as low volumes so not worth their while.eg radiatrot fan usually most cars £100-200.I have just been charged £1130 yes over a thousand pounds for this.they know you have no choice.rip off!
NEVER EVER buy a Ssangyong
NEVER EVER buy a Ssangyong! We have a Ssangyong Turismo, top of the range model always serviced by Ssangyong to keep it within the 5 year warranty. Recently the tyre pressure sensor came on took it to our local Dealer and they diagnosed that there was water ingress into the tyre pressure model. They refused to do it under warranty and on complaining to Ssangyong GB they said to contact the warranty company but they had not got any contact details!!
Absolute scam, you do not get a proper warranty with these cars.
I have had my Rexton for 3 months…
I have had my Rexton for 3 months having previously owned Land Rovers, Range Rovers and a Land Cruiser. I can honestly say it delivers brilliantly - especially the fuel consumption where I am getting 38+ per gallon. ( I only ever achieved 24 - 26 mpg with the Landcruiser.
The technology is top class. It even has air conditioned seats for hot weather. On good roads you couldn't fault it. It is a little more bumpy over potholes etc but not excessively so. It will pull anything and is so spacious you can carry a huge amount.
I love it and highly recommend as it is superb value compared with less reliable much more expensive cars.
I have read a lot of negative comments
I have read a lot of negativity on here to last me a life time , I don't own a Ssangyong and after reading the reviews I don't want to .
I bought a Dacia duster "Indian built" and that was just as bad .
Really sad because I was looking forward to ordering my Tivoli but these reviews have saved me heart ache and stress thank you.
I have 2 Ssangyongs currently
I have 2 Ssangyongs currently, Musso and a Rexton and had cars from Ssangyong since 2009. In that time the build quality has dropped, the turn around time for warranty repairs increased and the support from your dealer got to non-existent. Raising a complaint to Ssangyong GB is a waste of time and goes ignored. My Saracen Musso I bought from Autovillage Cheltenham, it has leaked since buying it, they replaced the rusty side bars and indicator covers under warranty and they have rattled and been falling off since. Any calls to them go ignored even after speaking to the owner, avoid.
