I love how this community is built…
I love how this community is built around real innovation, sharing, support, and learning through the balance of talking AND doing, in real practical ways to meet needs. It is truly a unique place - I have not experienced anything quite like it, and I have been in many groups. The advisors' expertise, down-to-earth access, and help are invaluable. They really show up consistently for all founders which I find incredible. I want to name them all, but want to give a shout out to Ryan Rutan and his wkshp and dedication to each person attending, and Ed Kang who doesn't cut anyone off but continues to ask "any other questions" until every last question is addressed, as well as all the workshop peer leaders who are so gifted. I truly feel blessed to be a part of this community. =)
Essential learnings for founders and anyone in business!
My experience has been great so far. Especially with Wil, he has helped me a lot. The workshops are excellent, I attend a few each week and even though they go over some things I have already learned from being in previous workshops (same course), there is always something new to learn, and its great to hear the problems of other founders and Wil and Eds solutions. The foundation that you learn is absolutely essential, not only for new founders but for experienced leaders and high level execs as well. what you learn here will transform your decks and thinking to be much better than it is now. I wish I found them sooner (like 20 years ago)!
Great value for the money.
I’ve found great value in SU so far—from the coaching to the community as a whole. I’m glad I joined and would recommend it to any founder, new or seasoned (like me), looking to roll the wheel and not try to re-invent it.
Worth every penny and every minute
I joined Startups.com originally in 2021 when I had big plans to take on the world. Only one problem, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. I just knew I wanted to make a positive impact. Despite not having a specific business or experience or a plan….. all the mentors at Startups.com gave me their time and full attention as if I was the next Bill Gates. I finally realized I was not yet ready to dive into the amazing world of entrepreneurship.
However, three short years later, I was able to take all of their teachings and guidance from 2021 and create a business that is now in warp drive. I rejoined Startups.com a few months ago and have received even more support and education than before as they continue to improve and increase their offerings.
With all these new additions, including their Startups advisory program and community support groups, we have a solid business plan with an app launch date accelerated by six months due to the connections we have made through this amazing company.
If you are considering starting a business, have started a business, or are starting another business, Startups.com is the partner-mentor every entrepreneur dreams of having. The educational resources alone are worth the nominal monthly fee, but the networking is priceless. Accelerate your business with solid guidance and build relationships you’ll keep forever.
Can’t wait to meet you in the community!!
Conflicting Advice and Empty Promises
I spent about $1,000 with Startups.com, and for founders interested in fundraising, I can say that it was a complete waste of money. You’ll have better luck with YouTube.
The first couple weeks were great, but as I had more time with their team, I came to realize that it was a dysfunctional racket. None of the advisors seem to be on the same page and frequently gave me conflicting advice. One would tell me to move fast and set aggressive fundraising goals when the other would tell me that we didn’t have enough traction and had no business pursuing fundraising in the first place.
They also offer to help you refine your pitch deck. To their credit, their video guides were very helpful, but they aren’t providing any information that you can’t find for free on YouTube. When our deck was ready, none of the advisors had time to review our simple 12 slide presentation that we had designed for investors to digest in less than 2 minutes, which was ironic considering they are the ones insisting that we keep it brief, but then they can’t even make the time to review it themselves. They instead told me that they’d only be open to reviewing 1 or 2 slides at a time, and they were only available once a week. I jumped through the hoops for a couple weeks getting feedback, and the advisor regularly forgot the context of the remaining slides and gave me contradictory feedback from week to week.
Finally, they also like to lure you in with the promise of providing referrals to an exclusive network of investors to help pitch your company. They do have a list that you can review, but it lacks any contact info for direct outreach. When I asked several times about the promised referrals, their advisors danced around the subject and were unwilling to help or let us know what was needed to actually get access to the contacts on this “exclusive” list.
After 5 months of spinning our wheels, my co-founders and I cancelled our subscription. Contrary to other reviews here, they were not helpful at all, and my best business decision was when I chose to cancel the membership.
Only regret: not signing up earlier!
I've been a religious follower of the Startup Therapy podcast by Wil and Ryan for several months before joining the platform - my only regret was not signing up earlier!
The podcast's strongly resonated with several of my "contrarian" startup approaches and beliefs that I wasn't able to verbalize early on. I felt few people understood my perspective, and people from Startups.com are among the few who get it.
It took practically no convincing before I signed up for the full plan, and I was completely blown away by the value I was receiving relative to the cost.
On my first group call, Ed the facilitator, already knew my name, even though I'd just signed up the day before. Within a week, subsequent coaching calls resolved several month-long challenges. I received personal attention through office hours with specialized advisors, and have been leveraging the platform's resources heavily.
I still can't believe I'm getting so much value. It still blows my mind how they accomplish it all, and any founder would be silly to not sign up.
Startups.com is crucial for any founder!
The Startups team has been great!
The team has been great. A lot of knowledge and energy. If you are a founder, Startups is a crucial part of your journey. The mentors and the community support are phenomenal.
Startups.com so far has exceeded expectations
Startups.com has been a great community environment as a startup founder. The video courses are a great starting point and the zoom workshops are usually manageable sizes to get specific questions asked and answered for the basic monthly level and all the advisors are very responsive. If you upgrade to the next level they also offer more (1 on 1) options to address additional questions and get more specialized feedback. They use a Slack channel for a majority of communication and I've been able to get alot of my questions answered between advisors and other founders. I'm only finishing my first month but would definitely recommend Startups.com for founders looking for feedback and support.
Startups.com Thumbs Up
I've been really enjoying the platform. I've learned a lot, met a lot of good people, and I'm starting to feel a bit more confident about being a founder. So much so that I'm leaving this experience review. I really enjoy the daily live streams for questions. And the networking has been way more than I expected.
Amazing team
Amazing team, the right support for startups of all profiles, Founders get access to everything they need at the same place.
Ed Kang is King
Ed Kang is King! His analysis is spot on!
I enjoyed Greg Welch's post pitch breakdown. He had great pointers.
The team really care and know what they're talking aobut
The team really care. They give you personal attention even when it's really a group program. I've had enormous value from being in the community also, and it's great to be able to ask questions and get answers. The training sessions also amazing.
About a week ago I found startups.com…
About a week ago I found startups.com and the community. How awesome! Everything that I see (and have already utilized) here relating to startups and founders is helping to shorten my learning curve on a number of topics. There is so much more value to the subscription than what I first anticipated. The website, courses, live office hour meetings, introduction to and talking directly to experts, perks, etc., etc are really top notch.
Great founder safe zone
I really enjoyed the engaging meetings, so far this is the best startup platform. Every day we have different events and talk about and get advisors to help one-on-one. Everyone is so passionate about helping each other, great founder culture. Ed, I love his energy!
I joined Startups.com 3 weeks ago and…
I joined Startups.com 3 weeks ago and feel I've already earned great value for my $199 membership! I've already validated my concept and know now that it is doable. This is my 4th venture to startup over the last several years in my industry. I wish I had this type of network support in my previous ventures! All the people I've met so far are great. I've gotten really great advice and I'm just getting started! Very cool! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to start a new venture that this is a great place to start. Jump in and leverage everything they have to offer. It will be worth it!
Met great people
Met some very intelligent, interesting people. Lots of great resources. Tons of interaction with the CEO himself, who is very accomplished. It's not a panacea but if you are already motivated, it can you give you that extra resources boost, especially if you aren't coming from a background of privilege.
Found my community
I am so grateful to be part of this community! The founders and leaders that work with us are very experienced founders and it shows. They've given personalized, practical, and actionable advice to get me to the next level and then prep for the one after that. They speak from the heart with candor. The whole community of founders are helpful and collaborative as well. I love this group!
New to the community and excited to learn more!
I recently joined this community, and my experience has been extremely positive. Thinking through my challenges with likeminded people has helped me identify areas that I need to spend more time on. Namely, articulating the true value my company has to offer.
Great team, wonderful program!
The team at startups.com has established a comprehensive educational and accelerator platform mixed with expert advice IRL and individual sessions that offer holistic founder support. I've seen a significant progress in my readiness as a founder to approach the challenges and opportunities that lie immediately ahead of my venture.
