Super helpful in a difficult purchase. Quick to respond, organised and v.professional. They even helped us complete close to Christmas. Natalie Arlett-Buffery in their team was excellent, and the contact we had with other team members, was also brilliant.

Very good conveyancers. Contact is good. It’s a stressful time but they know what they are doing. You have to just let them get on With it. Being in a chain is the worst though.

Emma Selfridge was extremely helpful at all times during the purchase of a property. Her knowledge, expertise and professionalism were second to none. Couldn’t be more pleased. Would recommend Stephens Wilmot to anyone purchasing their property.

A seamingly seamless sale, that took over 4 months to compete!!!! No chain either side, first time buyers with excellent credit rating and mortgage in place. Probate granted and provided by seller, draft contracts sent but apparently not received. On hold to staff for over an hour on most occasions, half an hour on every occasion, inability to make contact with the case solicitor, staff “on leave” with no voice message recording to notify us when on hold. How can such a simple purchase take this long? We were not informed of staff not being in the office when we were requested to return documents. The “assistant” of the solicitor we used seemed efficient when finally instructed (2 weeks before completion). We were advised that if we paid a further £350 then the sale would move swifter!! Shocking!
You get what you pay for and sadly we were very close to loosing this purchase due to the lackadaisical attitude of this firm.

From start to finish Cheryl was on hand to answer all questions and put me at ease throughout the process. As a first-time buyer, this process can be overwhelming but I had reassurance all the way through from Cheryl. Appalling service so far: First-time buyer with no chain, purchasing a vacant house.

I instructed Stephen Wilmott for conveyancing on the 15th of September and was advised that my case would be handled by Kathryn Jones.

I spoke to her the next day to make the payment she requested and was surprised by her tone of irritation when I called to make the payment she had asked for.

I decided to trust that Stephen Wilmott would be capable professionals, so I left the matter in their hands. However, after not hearing anything at all for an entire month, I tried to email and call Kathryn but received no response for five days.

On the 15th of October, when I finally spoke to her, she claimed her phone hadn’t worked all week and, in an uninterested manner, advised that nothing had been done on the case and no progress had been made at all over the last month.
She then asked if I would like her to start working on the case and request the searches. My questions as to why this wasn’t already done were brushed off.

Based on this, I started to call once a week for an update. Each sparse update was given in an indifferent or irritated manner.
When it came to sorting out the final queries for the seller’s solicitors, I asked the reason for the delay and was advised by Kathryn that she had chased them two weeks ago and therefore “couldn’t possibly chase them again.”

I spoke to Kathryn again, who advised that she couldn’t provide an update or progress the case because she was waiting for information from the seller’s solicitors.
I then spoke to the seller’s solicitors, who advised that Kathryn had made no such request and that she already had all the documentation she needed. Naturally, she then did not pick up my calls to explain this.

The following week, I called for an update and was advised that Kathryn was on holiday. The tone of the lady on the phone sounded unsure, so I asked if another agent would pick up my case. I was then advised that this would be impossible as “it wasn’t left in a way where someone else could pick it up while she’s on holiday.”

The next week I called and was told that no one knew when or if Kathryn was coming back at all.

I was then told to speak with Lauren who, while seemingly unsure, told me that the queries and local searches had been received the previous week and had not been actioned. I was advised that these were the final documents and simply needed to be reviewed.

With my patience worn thin, I called for an update every other day for a week. Only on the following Monday was I advised by Lauren that it was “not her problem” and that she likely would not be dealing with my case, as no one was assigned to it or working on it, even two weeks after Kathryn had vanished.

I assume that as they wouldn’t be a commission earner on this task no one is interested in completing the case.

I am now left at the very final stage of the process, after enduring a complete lack of communication and competence from Kathryn, with no one seeming to pick up her work.

With Stephen Wilmott closing for the year shortly, I am now in a position where I may have to wait another month, until the new year, for someone to tick the last box on the sheet to complete the transaction and allow me to move into the house.

I sincerely hope this is not the case and that someone in the company possesses the capacity to complete the final stage of their job and achieve what is a very attainable completion before the end of the year.
