I wish I had read all the reviews before I had my smart meter installed on the 16th March 2023 What a waste of money and resources .
1: They say you only pay for the electric you use, WRONG . I pay by direct debit which is now almost £300 in credit
2: When you change the settings, for instance put in a budget plus stop that annoying beep sound on the each time you press a command, this works for about a day or a week or just a few hours. It then reverts back to the first time it was installed, saying my budget is £1.60 for the day.
3: Then of course worst of all when it was first installed it showed that I was using quite a bit of electricity , and as I have solar panels and it was a sunny day, it didn`t seem to be working with the smart meter . Contacted my supplier who said it could take between 6 to 8 weeks for your smart meter to settle in.
To summarise don`t bother getting one fitted.

Don’t let them fit one they don’t work my electric smart meter was not sending readings for 18 months rang supplier they said I don’t have electricity they cut my direct debit by 3/4 I requested they put my direct debit back to what it was otherwise I would of owed them thousands after 12 months this was fixed and I still can’t get correct readings on the app.always £100 to £150 over what the app says I will pay per month month

Im with OVO Energy.. following the energy crises from last year when fuel became expensive, i was still on a lower DD, until this year when the DD was raised to three times the original amount, which was quite high for me, albeit now being retired and living on savings, but then they raised it once again from £98 a month to £199 a month, that was when I decided to cancel the DD and start a SO, best move I ever made, that way the first increase of £98 which suited would remain, and no further chopping and changing at will and on a whim.. one good thing, messing me around with this, they offered me a goodwill gesture, ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find......wise words! However they have been badgering me to have a Smartmeter fitted but reading the reviews on here, i think Il abstain for now!
Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless, mines never worked and also lots of others that I know.
A complete waste of money spent on adverts when the actual device isn't fit for purpose.
Pointless Use of technology
We’ve had one fitted recently and it works, the fitting was simple (BGas) and took about 30mins. The product however is pretty pointless as it stands. It tells you nothing you don’t already know. Just read the wattage on the device’s label and you know as much as the meter knows. The way the data is presented is poor and rather childish. There is a historical graph of usage available but it’s buried deep in the settings menu and it’s not presented in any useful way - there no “dimensions” on the graph only a number representing the highest reading. This useless if you track your consumption. The only useful feature is not having to read the meter yourself. All this for £11,000,000!!!!!
Don't change to smart meter
I have requested the smart meter to be fitted by Scottish Power. I have notice immediately that my bill increased. Then I call Scottish power to have look it. They ensure that my bill roughly the same last year. The other problems is that you top using my mobile and money does show in the meter. Unles you put 20 digits utrn every time. And they call it smart meter. I would not recommend it.

got it fitted....didn't work. no connection. it's now been nearly a year and SSE have not even changed my meter serial number on my bill to the new one. i cant submit readings as it thinks the old meter is still being used. have spent god knows how many hours on the phone trying to get it rectified but to no avail. SSE are absolute garbage! i am going to stop my d/d and wait to see if i get a phone call....but they are probably to incompetent to do that.

I only got a smart metre as I felt forced to as SSE gas and electric told me I can't pay quarterly bill even though I have no debt, and the top up metre I was told would be hard to top up as only one shop still did the top up service near me. So I thought it might be easier being able to top up from home. But I'm paying £20 every 2 days sometimes the app isn't working due to maintenance etc. I also put £20 on but this didn't go on the metre but it's still came out my bank and hasn't been seen since last month. I've had the metre about a year now I wouldn't recommend smart metres to anybody it's just a legal way of stealing from people.
Kettle makes it red
It used to either be in the green or amber on a day when we're not working. It now goes in red if you turn the kettle on. All I have on is aquarium essentials. It was 800 in the green. I turn the kettle on and it goes to 3300

2 dates missed by SSE to fit smart meter. No show by fitter . 2 times I agreed set times email when coming they have changed times . Go on app try chat Bot does not understand no show . And no listing for engineers not turning up. Tried phone number supplied In email sent for no show on hold for over 1 hour gave up . Terrible service SSE

Please please don't get a smart meter fitted I was practically forced to have one they tell you that they all have to be changed eventually but that's not true . it's costing me a fortune I can't afford to use my tumble dryer anymore.i don't know what I'm going to do in the winter as I can't afford to have my electric fire on .I'm constantly watching the meter and it's stressful it doesn't help people like myself who suffer from mental health issues having to worry about were I'm going to find the money for my gas and electric.DONT HAVE ONE

I used to get by on £20 a week on the prepay meter! Robbing c****!! I was living in a house that have a normal meters for electricity and gas. Then I changed to smart meters. my god my bills shot up so high. I telling you it's smart meters for stealing people's money.
Faulty meter
My electricity meter is billing me three times the national average for a small 2 bed house. Utility Warehouse have made me pay over £800 debt over last 2 years. My monthly bill for January is £207 plus £50 debt payment. I am a pensioner.
A friend of mine has a 7 bed house and only pays £160 a month dual fuel. Its a bloody nightmare trying to sort it out. I think I must be paying for the bloody blackpool illuminations. I didn't want a smart meter but they told me I had to have one.
SMART Meters Unable to cope with Dual Rate tarriffs so AVOID
We have a Dual rate Energy tariff with Outfox the Market. Night time usage is avering 40% of total usage per month for the last few years
We recently had a Smart meter installed - in August - BIG MISTAKE, it was Dumb and would not communicate.
All our consumption was charged at the full day rate!
We had a second Smart Meter installed with a big aerial.
This works but still does not record Night time usage only total KWh.
I have reported it to both the Smart Meter Supplier and Outfox the market.
Our Smart hub shows consumption during the night rate in £ but not KWhrs.
The Meter has recorded 6KWH for the entire month - it should be over 200!
Our Smart hub has a 10p per unit charge so the indicated cost is more like a third of the actual cost!
Despite having a Smart meter I am still asked to submit meter readings - the night reading remain
s at 6KWHr so is clearly not working.
I would suggest you avoid a Smart Meter installation at any cost.
They are ABSOLUTELY USELESS.
I wanted one so I would not keep having to get a stepladder to read the meter, I still have to use a stepladder and the readings are wrong anyway.
Outfox the market gave me a refund for last month to offeset the fact that we pay 100% day rate.
but this is now 2 months with no night rate record - all charged at day rate!

I had an energy provider call me and ask for a meter reading and was told by the person on the phone that my meter was faulty and working backwards so i would need to have a smart meter installed. Now im not completely stupid so i got someone to check my meter and it turns out that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I then called this energy provider back and gave them some colorful feedback that they could record and use for training purposes 😅
