Kept up to date throughout the build process. Vinnie was our building inspector and was particularly helpful after the build was completed with some snagging items.

I had a garage conversion done by a builder I hired through Checkatrade. The builder was paid in full to handle the entire project, including any dealings with building control. Unknown to me, the builder used Stroma Building Control Ltd — and failed to pay them.

Rather than chase the builder (who actually commissioned their services), Stroma decided to target me, a private homeowner who never hired them, never agreed to anything with them, and had no direct dealings with them whatsoever. I started receiving legal letters and threatening emails from Stroma demanding payment for services I never commissioned.

Despite me chasing the builder (who assured me it had been sorted), Stroma persisted in harassing me instead of pursuing the company they actually worked for. This behaviour is completely unacceptable. It's unprofessional, aggressive, and shows a total disregard for the facts.

Stroma clearly have no proper system for tracking who their actual clients are and would rather take the easy route by pressuring innocent third parties. I would never willingly use this company and advise others to be extremely cautious when dealing with them — or ensuring your builder has paid them, so you don’t end up on the receiving end of their incompetence and threats.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Stroam Build Control and especially to Harry Garcia, who managed our project with exceptional care and professionalism.

From the very beginning to the final completion, we felt fully supported and expertly guided throughout the entire process. The project was completed smoothly and efficiently, and I genuinely cannot imagine receiving better service.

Every email and phone call was answered promptly, and all inspections were conducted right on schedule. The consistency and attention to detail truly made a difference.

Extremely Happy with the service

From the start of our project we were expertly advised and informed of all work required & of our duties. No fuss, just great service to completion.

Stroma used to be so good when they were green-door/ bbs/ Jhai etc. We are an established architectural firm so can write from sustained experience working with them. I can confirm that they have now got far too large that they rely on a database system with surveyors that log in and out of it and have no accountability. They simply request photos 6 months after projects have been covered up and leave responsibility for these to consultants to furnish them with information. The number of times I have had heart palpitations as a consequence is unfathomable. They have cost my clients extreme stress and extra costs and act with arrogance when confronted. Unless they improve their service they will lose customers. Not that they care they have a lot of government work where they can remain unaccountable.

When we started our renovation over a year ago were warned that building control can be very difficult and obstructive. This was absolutely not the case with Adrian from Stroma. Throughout the whole process, Adrian was absolutely brilliant. Super responsive on email and in returning calls. He gave us clear guidance throughout, very commercial and user friendly. Honestly could not have been a better experience. Thank you Adrian very much

Tried to call building inspector no response

I worked with Alex Bishop, very responsive and helpful with all relevant queries.

It took them over four months to get my final certificate to me. No one took responsibility; they just kept passing me around. I think dealing with the council is simpler than dealing with Stroma.

All what was planned by Stroma was completed on time and all office staff and surveyors were friendly and professional at all times.
Very pleased with the complete service.

I couldn't be happier with the support and professionalism that Matt provided throughout our building project as our building inspector. Matt was very proactive in ensuring all works carried out were to the expected standard which allowed for a smooth and worry free project. I would recommend Matt and look forward to working together again on future projects.

The administrator tried to make out that I had entered into a contract after I had replied to an email quote, despite me clearly writing, "I hope to finalise the Building Control appointment over the weekend."  I immediately clarified that they were not appointed. Despite this they sent me an invoice the following Monday for the full amount - no appointment, no service provided - all in contravention of consumer protection legislation. I really don't know whether they provide a decent Building Control service but this aggressive and desperate attitude suggests otherwise. They need to be more consumer friendly and understand consumer legislation. Very disappointed as they came recommended by another service provider that has done well for me.

Would definitely recommend. Kate was very approachable, professional and knowledgeable to work with on our self build.

I had little to do with SBC as my builder did it for me but everything went through as smoothly as you would hope.
