Great gloves, purchased for himalayan trek. Kept hands warm in very cold temperatures. Only minus a star as gloves could have benefited from having a sturdier outer layer. With Velcro on my jacket,... See more

About Sub Zero Technology Ltd

Written by the company

During a cold and wet scramble along the Lake Districts Helvellyn mountain in 1967, Derek Laxton hit upon inspiration for a technical range of thermal underwear.

With a trained mechanical engineer background and a lust to run his own company, in 1969 Sub Zero Technology was created. From their original Leicester Textile Mill, the Sub Zero Factor 1 range of thermal base layers was born to worldwide acclaim.

In the five decades since, Sub Zero have expanded their range to include heavy weight thermal mid layers through to insulating down jackets. Never a company to stand still, Sub Zero have adopted new manufacturing processes, such as seamless knitting technology and body mapping, to produce garments that are at the pinnacle of performance.

Sub Zero today is still family owned, with the third generation of Laxtons running the company. The factory and offices now reside in rural Leicestershire, with the workforce coming from the local communities. Sub Zeros work ethos is still true today as it was form its interception - to design and manufacture technical outdoor clothing using the finest technical textiles for the words most extreme conditions.

Material quality of white seems better than blue .

You bought the old sub standard versions of the Factor 2 so the white is probably made form polyamide and the blue form polyester. The polyamide version of the Factor 2 fabric is superior to the polyester version we currently use but we cannot get the polyamide fabric knitted anymore, hence the switch over.

I am always amazed at how much excess packaging some companies use. At the end of the day it all adds to the bottom line, so being efficient with packaging materials means we can be more competitive with pricing.

Excellent Quality Products Made in England

I bought a cooling baselayer top, which is really comfortable. I wear it to work as a vest and it's great when the weather warms up as I never seem to get too hot in it.

It's also nice to know that it's made in England, as this means that (under law) the people who made it are treated fairly and the environment is protected.

Great british outdoor-wear

I have ordered several times from Sub Zero before now, mostly their own products (baselayers and a fleece gillet) but also other brands that they stock.
Every time the order has arrived promptly and as expected. The base layers in particular are excellent quality, comfortable to wear in conditions from English rambling to long days in the Scottish Highlands.

Purchase of thermal garments

Ordered two thermal tops from Sub Zero's Clearance Section, and received them within two days. Top quality, and couldn't find any faults apart from a small thread loose, which was easily rectified! I will be using this company again, and have no problem in recommending them to other online shoppers.

Good customer service

I bought a couple of SubZero undergarments many years ago and they have served me very well. When I asked staff if they still made the same products, they emailed me back immediately with some helpful advice which led me to finding the exact product I wanted.

Excellent quality product and service.

I found the product to be of good quality and the service very helpful and prompt. I was unsure of size and Sub Zero even got that right for me too. Price wise the items are quite expensive, but I could not find the fleece lined leggings I wanted to replace my older ones anywhere else so was pleased they are still made for mid layer clothing by this company. They do not attract static like some thermals. I will definitely buy other products.

Good Value and prompt delivery

Prompt order updates and delivery. The Sub Standard section represents good value and more than pleased with the factor 2 thermal top. I would be happy to shop here again

Good service even to the USA

I have ordered twice from Sub Zero and have received good service and communication even though I live in the beautiful mountains of Colorado in the USA. Shipping takes a little while, which is understandable, but the products I ordered were of the highest quality.

Disappointing Quality

I recently bought a Subzero Factor 1 Plus Long Sleeve Top and Bottoms - the elastic in the Long Johns went slack after the first, cool and careful wash.
I also bought a set of the warmer Factor 2 thermals. Nice and warm top. Bottoms are cut for people with *very* thin legs. Top also did not wash too well.
I did not have any problems with the service but I am disappointed with the quality of the products. All in all an expensive and disappointing experience that I will not be repeating.
